everything's a mess

"On this one occasion, I think we can agree on something." In the afterglow of the loss she listened to his commentary, and she'd never felt as at peace as she did with him in that moment as she offered him nothing more than a shrug. Looking up at him as she rested next to him, a small smile on her face as she stared up at him. She'd already had said the three words she'd been too afraid to say before, she didn't see the harm in saying two more. "Marry me."

"True." the Bennett conceded, waiting patiently or the answer to her question. His response caught her off guard, and she found herself staring at the heretic for a moment, trying to find something to say, something to do, but it didn't take long for an answer to come to her. Leaning over. Bonnie kissed him gently for just a moment before pulling back to look up at him with a warm smile. "What did I do to deserve you...?"

“It’s not a no.” The witch wasn’t going to make it that easy for him as he offered that grin. She wasn’t going to let him win without putting up some sort of fight. It wasn’t the way she worked, and it wasn’t the way they worked. “No amount of time with you is fun, Kai. There’s a million things I’d rather be doing right now.” While the words were confident, the witch behind them wasn’t. She couldn’t imagine herself anywhere else at the moment. She couldn’t be home, to see Caroline and Damon mourning their losses, bonded over them, awaiting the day that Elena came back to them, which would also be the day she died. She knew they’d feel guilty, and she knew they’d never say it out loud, but after all the loss in their lives, she couldn’t blame them for wanting someone to come back to them. She could have traveled, like she told them she would, but she wasn’t sure she could live her life like that, so utterly alone surrounded by strangers. At least here, in the company of Kai Parker, she didn’t feel alone, and she didn’t feel like he wanted someone else to be there instead. He wasn’t too polite to say things to her, what he wanted, how he felt. He was honest, he knew her, and he was familiar. “Sounds like a plan.”

“Aren’t I always?” There’s a brilliant smirk on her lips as she hangs on to every word. Her eyes got big, and she turned her head at his last response. “You think you should get to kill him?” she asked, kind of taken aback. “How so?”

"Not going to fight me for it?" she teased, raising an eyebrow as she leaned over and pressed a kiss to his cheek. "Not going to try and talk me out of it?"

“I guess you have a point.” There was a brief pause as the Bennett thought better of it. “Surprisingly.” At his next question, the witch couldn’t help but smirk, because she knew the answer without a moments thought. “I take my chances, especially when I know I’m holding all the cards.” Which, more or less was true. She did feed him, helped stabilize the prison world together where they were currently existing, and held the key to his freedom. Though, there was at least one key element she didn’t have: a way to wake Elena up without sacrificing herself. Though, if things didn’t pan out like she hoped, that might not be an issue she’d have to worry about anyway. “Not with an attitude like that.” As if she’d ever let him out. As if he’d ever do something that would make her trust him for a millisecond without those chains on. As if she’d ever set him loose to wreak havoc on the world. A few months ago, all of that would have been enough to knock some sense into her, but as the weeks passed, and her progress fell to a snail's pace, she had begun to think of alternative solutions, as heinous as they seemed. “Well, I’ll need to make a plan. This is more of Caroline’s specialty... but unfortunately for me, and fortunately for her, you’ve got me.” Training your pet heretic restraint didn’t exactly have a handy how-to book to reference. “Any suggestions?”

She watched his smile grow, and she felt her own growing to compete with his own. Seeing the heretic relax, the two of them falling into their normal stride reminded her that this was her home now. Not the bed, not even the physical structure they were in, but, much to her own surprise,  the company of Kai Parker was where she felt most at home. The gentle kiss, and the feeling of security she felt when he squeezed her hand only helped remind her of the fact. “I’d don’t know what I’d do without you.” Squeezing his hand gently, the vampire confessed that simple fact she was almost sure he already knew. “And as soon as I kill Wes, we can do whatever you want. Bennett’s honor.”

Bonnie: It is, it's nice to enjoy the little things like that

Bonnie: Tomorrow morning?

Bonnie: Everythings changed a lot

Bonnie: We could get coffee?

Bonnie: If not I understand

After she said her piece, she simply looked at him and waited anxiously. She wanted nothing more than to be an anchor for him, just as he had been for her. Ever since they’d gotten out of the lab, he’d been everything for her, and she simply wished to do the same for him. Though, the silence between them that followed her answer left her wondering if she did something wrong. Had she said too much, or not enough? But then he offered one word, two syllables, but it was enough for her. “Okay.” Her tone was soft, unsure what that one little word really meant. She watched his face for any signs, but then came his second word, and a smile paired with a tone that warmed her heart. “And if you ever forget, I’ll be right here to remind you.” Now that was offered with a small smile, the hand not intertwined with his reaching up to touch his face. “Anytime, any place." As a final gesture, she leaned over and kissed him gently. "You'll always have me.”

“It’s what makes this so interesting.” It wasn’t a lie, but the honesty in the comment made her smirk subside into something weaker. Though she did let her mind wander from time to time from their normal push and pull. Sometimes, sitting in the dimly lit karaoke bar with the heretic, she even found herself thinking that she might just know him better than she knew herself. “Surprising considering almost every time you’ve been placed in an all or nothing situation, you’ve ended up with nothing.” His first attempt to force the merge, his attempt to mend their relationship, and losing his freedom even after he’d crawled his way out of literal hell. He did win sometimes though, like in the merge with his brother, and at his sister’s wedding, and as much as she hated to admit it, with his revenge against her. She did say almost every time. “But, if you insist, lets get going, shall we?”

"Might be a bit of both. The world may never know." The Bennett watched him carefully as she advanced toward him, the way he reacted to her own movements, the look in his eye as he silently challanged her. "Well, before we start, don't call me that unless you want me to leave you alone for another few weeks." Her tone was soft and warm as she threatened him, and her smirk only grew as he closed the gap between them even more. Part of their dynamic would always be the fight for dominance, the push and pull that made it all worth while. "And from now on, no blood bags. You either get it from the tap, or you don't get it at all. So, if I were you, I'd try not to screw this up."

"Okay, okay. And, just so you're aware, I've known that you weren't patient since we were seven." It felt nice to fall back into a familiar routine, to forget about everything else for just a bit and focus on the things she knew, on things she liked. She may have lost thirty years, but her friendship with Caroline was timeless, and it was one thing she'd be forever greatful for. "Alright." She couldn't express her gratitude to the blonde enough for that simple freedom, grateful that she was giving her that much wiggle room on her day. "So, are you really not going to tell me what we're doing today?"
