âlets be honest, lily,â is what evie starts with, smirking, almost fondly, as she observes her nails. âyou would probably die of boredom if it wasnât for me and my sparkling personality,â she continues in her smoky voice, but her words are flavoured with mirth. the weather outside is lovely today, nothing like what sheâs used to in ireland. and perhaps the aesthetics of this small town is the reason behind her coming here. or maybe it was because she never felt more at peace than when she was wasting her days away under stone harborâs sun, an intriguing book in one hand and a cup of hot chocolate in the other. ânever really liked pretzels, if iâm being honest.â evie confessed, lips quirking up to form a smile, glancing in lilyâs direction. âdo you like them, lily? we could always grab some pretzels for you and then maybe some treats from the flicked bean for me and head over to the beach⌠or maybe catch a film at the reel? i donât know. i havenât really been here long enough to know whatâs fun in this town.â
lily giggled. âyou are sunshine on a rainy day,â they agreed. they hadnât known each other for that long, but lily had to admit that evie really did bring some sparkle to their life. before they only ever really hung out with tino. this was the first real friend they had made without the help of tino, and that was exciting all in itself. at evieâs confession lily blinked, legs stopping their swinging back and forth. âno... itâs not really my thing either. i just started working here âcause my parents hated the names of all the other places here and wouldnât let me work anywhere else. and then i just never left. iâd like hot chocolate from flicked bean much more!â seeing that their shift only had a few minutes left, lily jumped off the counter before removing their apron. evieâs suggestions sounded fun, and lily nodded in agreement. âthereâs not a lot to do here, i guess. but youâre fun,â lily argued. âwhich means that whatever you come up with will be fun as well.â
