My mother died when I was young. Only 11 years old. I was in the hospice on my father’s laptop in her room, playing voices from the townhouse. Of course in the game you play as a paranormal investigator (in the literal sense) as you commune with ghosts to solve the murder of the unnamed boy. You learn through Beatrice’s side quest that her husband died long before she did. You learn how the loss and the grief clawed its way into every facet of her life, and how it nearly killed her.

And then you see how she learned to live with that pain. It never left her, but she carried it with her, and it made her stronger. How she used the weight it placed upon her back to push herself forward. She became incredibly successful, invested her wealth into her community and knew more love than she knew what to do with.

To everyone around her it was remarkable how she did it all by herself, but she didn’t do it alone. Her husband was with her every step of the way, carried in her heart, and in her soul.
