Excerpt from the Watchers Diary of Rupert E. Giles:
“And then there’s Spike.
Spike Nest is an altogether unpleasant little boy. He’s rude and abrasive and constantly stealing from my charges. He runs around like an animal with no supervision whatsoever. He only appears to listen to Angel once in a blue moon and only appears to listen to Darla when backed into a corner of his own making.
The children have the good sense not to emulate his behaviors and rarely play with him, though sometimes Buffy extends the forgiveness only children can seem to muster and forgets everything he did one day to play with him the next. Spike, too, seems to forget easily the transgressions of my charges and is constantly seeking their company. Buffy and Faith have wounded him many times despite my attempts to stop them, and he still hangs around practically every day.
What a lonely child he must be.”
