Against the algorithms
Uzi, also known as @darkXwolf17 is a popular streamer who gets ragebaited constantly harassed by her chaotic and toxic chat during her nightly streams playing core breaker. Despite the negativity, a kind viewer named @GoldenRetriever22 (N) stands out by sending encouraging messages, which eventually causes her to look forward to his presence.
Also known as streamer x watcher au!
Chapter 1:
The Twitch chat on Uzi’s left monitor constantly flooded with neon texts, emojis, and sub alerts.
22/7/2026 - 9:12pm @User_9938: LMAOOOO SHE RAGED @Goth_Enthusiast: whats the game called? @OilSpiller_44: RIP keyboard 💀 @TrollBot_666: ngl this is pretty easy
"ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!" Uzi shrieked, slamming both palms onto her desk. "That hitbox is completely rigged!"
Over eighty thousand people were watching her live. As one of the biggest streamers on the platform, Uzi Doorman was famous for two things, her absolute godly aiming skills in core breaker, and her infamous rage-quits. Her chat loved the chaos. They clipped her tantrums and constantly tried to push her buttons. And every single time she fell for it.
Uzi let out a loud, frustrated groan and threw her head back against her expensive gaming chair. "Unbelievable. That's the fifth time tonight. This game is literal garbage." She glanced over at the blinding speed of the chat, entirely unable to read a thing. "Alright, whatever. I'm going to take a five minute break to grab a drink, i'll trun on ads so you guys can take a quick break aswell."
She put on ads and stood up, muting her microphone as she stomped out of her room.
Miles away, sitting in a quiet, dark bedroom, N scrolled mindlessly as the bright purple glow of Uzi's stream illuminated his face. N didn't usually watch massive streamers mostly because he was pretty much a total lurker. In a chat with anymore than five hundred people watching at the same time, typing a message pretty much felt like throwing a pebble into a hurricane. He usually preferred cozy channels where he could actually talk to people, but today he wanted to give it another go. Maybe it won't be as bad? His mouse cursor hovered over the thumbnail titled "REJECTING HUMANITY TO BECOME A CYBORG (RAGESTREAM)". His eyes widened past his messy silver hair when he noticed in the bottom left corner how much the views increased every few seconds. Intrigued, he clicked the link, instantly letting out a soft, amazed "woah" as the intense glow of Uzi's massive broadcast illuminated his face for the very first time.
...A few seconds later, a loud creak echoed through his phone, followed by the heavy, thud of combat boots. A girl with sharp eyes, dark eyeliner, and a slightly oversized black beanie dropped heavily into her chair. She opened a soft drink, took a massive chug, and switched the screen back to her webcam view.
"Okay, I'm back," Uzi mumbled into her headset, gripping her mouse. "Let's go lose all my progress again."
N’s eyes gravitated to the small webcam box in the corner. He watches how her sharp eyes dart across her monitors, the aggressive way she pulls her black beanie down over her ears when a match gets too close, and the intense way she chews on her bottom lip when she is focusing on a difficult shot. He watches her face flush with genuine, anger whenever she loses, listening to her scream into her microphone about "broken hitboxes" and "rigged developers." While eighty thousand other people laugh at her anger and clip her tantrums for memes, N just watches with a soft, incredibly warm smile, leaning his chin in his hands and feeling a quiet sense of comfort just being a silent anchor in her loud, chaotic digital world.
N wanted to be nice towards the poor ragebaited girl. He opened the text bar and typed out a polite comment to try and help her.
@GoldenRetriever22: Hi @darkXwolf17! u almost had the boss that time! u can do it i believe in u!💛
He hit enter. The message flashed onto his screen and was instantly swallowed by fifty other spam comments. N leaned back against his pillows, fully expecting the comment to disappear into the internet void forever. On Uzi’s screen, her secondary monitor was running a high-speed mod filter that highlighted completely unique text lines amidst the toxic spam. Out of pure luck, (specially one-in-eighty-thousand luck,) her eyes caught a single username that didn't look like a standard troll copy-paste. She paused, her heavy boots clicking on the floor as she dropped back into her chair. She stared directly at his username.
@GoldenRetriever22
In a sea of people laughing at her failure, this random new viewer was... being genuinely sweet. It felt incredibly out of place. It felt deeply suspicious. And on top of that, reading a username like @GoldenRetriever22 while her official handle was @darkXwolf17 made her feel incredibly self conscious about her edgy aesthetic. "Uh," Uzi cleared her throat, pulling her microphone a little closer. "Hey... @GoldenRetriever22 in the chat. First time here? Thanks, I guess. The hitbox on that boss is absolutely broken, honestly, but... yeah. My movement was kind of cracked."
On the other side of the screen, N froze. His heart did a sudden, violent flutter against his ribs. He blinked at his laptop. Did she just read my message? Out of eighty thousand people?! Uzi quickly looked away from her chat monitor, a tiny smirk tugging at the corner of her lips that she tried desperately to hide from the webcam. She sat up perfectly straight in her gaming chair and tightened her grip on her controller. "Alright, chat," Uzi muttered, her voice dropping its harsh, defensive edge just a tiny bit. "A new watcher says I can do this. So shut up, sit back, and watch me do this."
N leaned forward, his face lighting up with a massive, goofy smile as he watched her digital character charge back into the icy landscape of core breaker. He was still just a face in the crowd, but for the first time, the screen felt a little bit smaller.
