Made it through my second Crohn's surgery. It was a couple of days ago. On World IBD Day even.
So now I'm back to resting up at home, taking it as easy as humanly possible, and hoping that my surgeon's work holds up over time.
First week down.
Restarted TotK yet again, kind of enjoying it this time.
Started watching all of The Good Place again.
Have spent the last few days mildly stoned on pain meds.
I have a renewed appreciation for the human body and its capacity to fuck itself up.
Two weeks down. Had my follow up with the surgeon, and now I'm looking at at least a few more months of healing before we potentially do an MRI to look for further problems.
I've had to stay off my Crohn's meds during these last couple of weeks, and my symptoms are flaring 'mildly' but enough to make me feel pretty rough. I've been given the all clear to start them again and now I'm just hoping they'll kick in again soon.
It’s Pride Month Eve, so leave out some milk for Freddie Mercury and his cats.
Time for the annual Pride Month reblog of Freddie Mercury and his fabulous cats!
i tune out for one day and what the fuck is this
i thought maybe it was shitpost but no

I don’t have the energy to engage directly with the post involved (because yikes) so I’m going to make my own post clarifying something:
It’s histamine, not histamines.
I know it might be confusing because there are different types of antihistamines, but that plural refers to how the drugs interact with the receptors in the body, not the chemical itself.
Different antihistamines target different receptors in the body to address specific issues. So, for example, Zyrtec targets h1 receptors which primarily mediate allergic reactions related to the respiratory system, while h2 blockers, like Pepcid, target the receptors in the GI tract. When combined, people are finding they can help alleviate PMDD which is great.
There is not, however a different histamine that affects your sinuses and another that affects your gut. It’s all just one chemical, but it can be picked up by different pathways in the body, hence why we have h1 and h2 blockers. (We also have h3 and h4 receptors and probably more I’m forgetting about right now that can be targeted by different medications. Neat!)
Similar to how the body has different histamine receptors, MCAS is not exclusively a histamine issue. It can be the main issue for many people, but it is rarely the sole issue.
There are hundreds of chemical compounds contained in a single mast cell and when those cells degranulate, it’s the equivalent of taking a Molotov cocktail to the immune system. Histamine is merely one of them.
Telling someone with MCAS they must have something else because eating low histamine isn’t helping them, is not only arrogant, it is shockingly ignorant and frankly fucking insulting.
People with this disorder know more than you.
And hey, maybe you’ll find out you also have this disorder and that histamine is often just the tip of a terrifyingly under researched iceberg. I hope for your sake you don’t. I’m so sincere about that.

accidentally stayed up until 2. they got so tired waiting for me to go to sleep
you get a comment on tumblr. it's a bot trying to scam you. you get a DM. it's a bot trying to scam you. you get a message on instagram. its a bot trying to scam you. you're an author and you get an email telling you how much they loved your book and want to showcase it at their bookclub. it's a bot trying to scam you (and it uses bad AI to pretend it knows your story). you get a comment on ao3 saying how much they love your fic - and they made you fanart!! it's a bot trying to scam you. you get a hate comment on ao3 which insults your writing or calls you a monster for writing something "problematic". it's a bot. but at least that one isn't trying to scam you.
there's just something really cruel and insidious about this wave of scams going after creatives. You get an email and think someone genuinely loved what you made but - no. It's another scam. It's someone trying to trick you into sending them money. On AO3, it might literally just be a bot someone made specifically to be a hateful little shit.
putting the stuff you've made out there for everyone to see is hard and scary and we're all just bumping around looking for a bit of appreciation and love and connection and these bastards are using that to try to rob us. I hate it.
Im going go get into the sea and stay there
Hey! how make much did you make an hr on your first job and what was the job?
genuinely, from the bottom of my heart:
if you can’t read or write 500-1000 words with relative ease you have a serious problem
how are all the teenagers who complain about writing 500 words for homework going to get through college without AI
how are you going to function in society if you can’t read 1000 words at a time
This is a FIXABLE problem, by the way!
Pick a topic you like, and that's what you're going to read about. Set a minimum word count, and read until you get to it. Start small. Smart easy. First try, it might actually be agonizing.
That's it for the day. Just hit the word count.
Next day, read to the word count again. Read something new! It will be easier today.
And easier the next.
And you will naturally find yourself extending how much you read per day.
yes! the brain must be exercised like any other part of the body to get stronger! no matter what place you’re at you can do stimulating activities to exercise your brain!
The answer to 'how are they going to function' is, and I say this as someone whose mom was a social worker in Appalachia for 20 years: they're going to get scammed. They're going to be victims of fraud, scams, and exploitation, due to their low literacy making them easier targets for others. And then they're going to be unable to read and write well enough to advocate for themselves in a court of law or fight back in any meaningful way.
"I ain't reading that" becomes "I can't read that" which becomes "I didn't read before I signed it because the guy telling me to was convincing and now I don't have anything".
^^ There is so much profit in exploiting illiteracy and ignorance.
On top of being scammed, receiving accurate medical treatment relies on you knowing how to do your own research, and too many doctors take illiterate patients less seriously.
If you become a victim of a crime or are accused of a crime, you need to be able to read the papers a cop or lawyer puts in front of you. They can happily take advantage of your ignorance if you give them a chance.
This list goes on! Landlords, real estate agents, accountants, car mechanics, bankers, phone companies, customer service, contractors, childcare workers, e.g. any other human you rely on just to live your life will expect you to be literate and capable of making smart decisions. It is not their job to supplement your ignorance. It is not any well-meaning individual's job to make sure you paid attention in the same classes they did. And most of them know this and will not wait for you to figure things out.
It won't be a scam, it will just be business.
has no one submitted the no parking signs on I-95 just outside of St. Augustine for the 22nd??

Oh hey I never followed up on that ER visit post here.
It turns out the visit was NOT a waste of time because it got me referred to a surgeon and let me just tell you.
If it routinely feels like you're sitting on a golf ball and it hurts like hell.
You need to go to the doctor and say that.
Because you can get a giant abscess in your ass.
For no apparent reason.
And because it can apparently hide from the common and cheap imaging tests, you need to be persistent about getting help.
Anyway I had one surgery about a month ago and I have a second one scheduled for late May. For a problem that had been plaguing me since late 2024.
The human body is so amazing and so fucking stupid and held together by paperclips.
It has been nearly 50 days since a surgeon stabbed me in the ass, and this has been the single biggest quality of life improvement I've experienced in years.
My gastro just changed my UC diagnosis to Crohn's because of this lmao.
This diagnosis change is something many IBD patients experience, because there are many types of Crohn's, and they tend to look like other diseases at first. And Crohn's colitis can look a lot like ulcerative colitis.
Luckily, I'm already on meds that are used for both UC and Crohn's, and on the Crohn's dose since it was increased to fend off a skin problem with a stick last fall.
Let me tell you a story. When I was a child, I suffered from night terrors. It was always the same dream: I could hear my family and neighbo
