“Besides mountains, what calls me into fullest being is when I’m celebrating others, in all their glory and brokenness. To provide language for and access to the tools I often lacked. Permission because they breathe and belonging because their heart’s beat. To create a world where what you do or don’t do, have been or are going does not disqualify your value and seat at the table. A world where welcome has no end. Where “too much” and “too little” don’t exist. Perhaps this is why words like “normal” repel me or why “misfit” and characters like Dennis the Dentist from Frosty the ⛄️comfort me. To acknowledge names and dates, calling themselves unto themselves as they respond to their value and individuality. It all matters. Each interaction, be it stranger or best friend, an opportunity to incite dissension or offer invitation. Paradoxically, last week, was the first time I’ve liked my own birthday. The first time celebrating myself felt less annoying and interactions were received with a posture of actual enjoyment. I wonder if this is a lot of us. Wanting to give others what we struggle to offer ourselves. I feel tremendous purpose in this next year. With a severe gratitude for the people and spaces that fill it. Progress and hope are on the move. My former way of interaction with self, faith and others are ending and something else, so different and nothing I actually know is taking place. Still falling, but upward, still uncertain, but hopeful, still awkwardly pulling hair in front of my face because inexplainable eczema, however posing. Stretching these legs into foreign lands with a deeper sense of love and curiosity for self is feeling so damn good.” - via @takemetomountains
