Christmas is the a holiday almost everyone loves, a time where everyone decorate their house in traditional colours of christmas and the only time of the year where it is acceptable to have a tree in your living room, but no one ever talks about the dangers of Christmas decorations and after reading this article it is something we have to think about.

Not much different for the woman in this news article, she was getting into the christmas spirt and had her living room decorated for Christmas, however, after leaving her house for a few minutes she came home to her horror that her house on fire after a Christmas decoration had fallen into an open flame of a candle.

The pictures used in this article really open your eyes on the dangers of open flames and having such flammable decorations around your house. i feel the  author of this article really wanted to make a point with using such graphic pictures of the fire and how if we aren’t careful we will find ourselves without a house on christmas day just like the situation this woman is in.

i feel using images like this is very affective as we all can relate to having candles lit and leaving them unattended something really tragic can happen, it will definitely get people thinking.

The article also includes some Christmas Fire Safety Advice, i feel the author did good to include as it keeps people informed on what to look out for this time of year and to stay safe

Today we did learned how to use Photoshop, having used Photoshop for most of my graphics in the past i found this session pretty simple for me, i created two the two graphics above by using a mixture of .pngs, textures and different blending modes, i enjoy making graphics like those as i find them a good way to visually communicate and easy enough to make.

Printmaking was something that definitely surprised me, I’ve only done monoprint and Intaglio Printing in the past, I have never known of the  printing press before this session, I thought it would be fun to use it even know it did look pretty scary.

We first had to put this weird smelling hand cream on our hands to project them but honestly, that stuff was gross. We had a little tutorial on how to use the printing press and how to make a basic print, and we were told to have fun!

I started off wanting to make some kind of picture but quick realised that the ink was too thick to do any kind of image with it, using yellow blue and dark red i tried to make mountains but didn't really go as planned and this is what i was left with

i think it’s a really cool design and could possibly use it in the future for a poster if i added a little bit of text to it.

i then went on and did monoprint with the leftover ink, as i did it before i was pretty sure i couldn’t mess it up. this is what i came up with:

i didn’t have a plan when i went into it, i just went on drawing and somehow came out with this? I think I wanted to do a face and them smoking

I think I could’ve done the mouth area much better and I know next time to have some kind of plan so I can show more clearly 

It was a very messy and my hands were covered in ink by the end and was near impossible to get off!  

The two images above is the outcome of today’s session on “collage” I enjoyed being able to just have fun with it and I’m pretty happy with the results

One the first picture I found a picture of a few building in New York and cut out the side of one of the buildings and took another picture of the American flag from a magazine and placed PVA on the back of it to make the image more interesting, I found that the American flag didn’t go well with the picture and you can’t really tell it is a collage and it looks like that’s actually how the image was might to be taken

Next time I know to use a better picture of buildings and maybe a more of a noticeable background such as flowers or trees. Over all I’m very happy with the outcome and think it’s a very cool looking imagine and I now know what I need to do to improve it in the future!!

The second image is the one I most enjoyed creating, I found myself stuck on what to do when I was handed a blank piece of paper but soon went with the flow and created what you see above, using a main imagine which was of a model I began glueing other stuff I found from magazines and newspapers such as the set of eyes in black and white going over the models face, I wanted to make it more of a ‘girly’ look so I focused on finding stuff that girls generally used. My favorite thing is the landscapes of New York at the bottom of the collage I feel like it was a nice touch and really tied the theme together

I feel there is a few things I can add to this in the future such as more text and maybe a bit more colour as I think it’s very dull
