Even though I stopped training due to personal reasons two weeks ago, Larissa & I still knocked out our 5k today in 42 minutes!! :)
Completed week three on 5k runner! Getting better all the time. :)
Week two!
Ive officially finished my second week of my 5k training! Did I mention how much I hate running?! Last week, I was complaining about 1.5 minutes of running. Let me tell you - 2.5 minutes is worse! Although it sucks, I'm doing it! And I feel accomplished after each day I check off. So far I've walked/ran 7 times for a total of 13.1 miles. My fastest mile was 14 something. Nike + is bugging out and won't update it, so I can't say exactly. Also, my calves have been KILLING me after my last two runs.. So I've been icing them down and stretching daily. Wish me luck on week three!
Week One
I completed my first week of my 5k training plan! How am I feeling? Like today kicked my ass! Because I only have 7 weeks instead of 8, I had to do an extra day this week, and I feel like death. I underestimated how out of shape I am! Running for 1.5 minutes is proving to be horrendous. How pathetic! Anyways, I’m hoping that it will get easier as I go along.
In other news, with the help of my dad, step mom, and brother, a portion of my backyard is fenced in now! This is something I’ve been wanting ever since we got Bella, and it finally happened. We used farm fencing and t-posts to fence in about 300 feet. It took about a day and cost around $550. We had left over materials though, so it’s true cost was probably around $500. Anyways, Bella LOVES being able to be outside off leash, and I couldn’t be happier about it!
Wish me luck on week two of my 5k training! I’m going to need it. :(

My new kicks!
Get Your Rear In Gear 5k
Hey guys!
So I've decided which 5k I'll be participating in! It's called Get Your Rear in Gear and it's to raise awareness and money for colon cancer research. This is something very dear to my heart, because I lost my mother to stage four colon cancer nearly four years ago. She was only 50 years old when this preventable disease took her life.
To honor her memory and help others who are fighting the cancer as we speak, I've created a team called Leanna's Legacy. Anyone can join our team and participate in the 5k with us! Also, donations of any size are welcomed. Any help would be appreciated!
Here's the link to our team page: http://events.getyourrearingear.com/site/TR/BatonRouge/General/476569775?pg=team&fr_id=1570&team_id=8162
It's in Baton Rouge on Saturday, April 27th. :)
OH & I start training for it today! So wish me luck.
5k in 8 weeks
Because my fiancé loves to run, I figured it would be fun for me to train for a 5k so we can do something active together. I downloaded the 5k Runner App, and Tuesday I will begin the program! I’m excited and I will probably take Bella on my runs with me. Maybe we can find a pet friendly 5k and all three do it together. It says I’ll be ready in 8 weeks! We will see. I’ll keep you updated on my progress.
Lazy? Get a dog.
So eight months ago, I decided to bring this thing home.
What made me decide to let a little land-shark, poop machine live in my house? Well firstly, look at her - She’s adorable! But secondly, I decided getting a dog would help motivate me to become more active. I will admit that getting a puppy can be like bringing home a newborn with razor sharp teeth. But, after all the puppyness subsides, dogs are pretty awesome. Now that Bella is almost a year old, I have really been enjoying our time spent together.
If you ARE going to get a dog to become more active, make sure you get an active breed of dog. Bringing home a Yorkie is not going to motivate you to exercise or spend some time outside. Dogs like labs, german shepherds, aussies, collies, etc. are great dogs that need a lot of exercise.
Worried that even when you get a dog you won’t exercise? TRUST ME - your dog will give you no other choice if it’s anything like Bella. Unexercised dogs are very destructive. So you either will exercise with your dog, or you will be exercising while lifting new furniture into your house because your dog destroyed it. So either way, your dog will help you get fit! :)
So what kind of exercising do I do with my dog? Bella & I take multiple walks each week, and now I’ve even begun jogging with her. Also, every Sunday we take her to training with her breeder & littermates. This helps us keep her obedience up, and she gets some time away from our house & yard. Here’s some pictures of us at training over the months.
So I won’t go on & on about how awesome my dog is - even though it’s true! I’ll just say that dogs are great motivators & companions. If you already have a dog, maybe you should get more involved with it. Walks are a great way to enjoy your dog and the outdoors, while also being more active!
Healthy Buffalo Shrimp
I bought the Hungry Girl to the Max: THe Ultimate Guilt-Free Cookbook. I really like the way it is laid out and they even have pictures of the dishes online at hungrygirl.com. Anyways, I figured I would start off my healthy lifestyle blog with a yummy shrimp dish! I’ll admit mine wasn’t as healthy as the recipe in the book. I didn’t have light butter or whole-wheat flour. However, I know you all won’t cheat, so it’s okay! ;) In general, I think this recipe was really good. Mine were a little soggy, so I’d suggest baking them a little longer than suggested. Sean also had some, and he thought they were yummy as well. He will eat anything though, so I’m not sure he can be trusted! I think I’m going to grill the shrimp next time and then toss them in the buffalo sauce. That will cut down on some calories because there’s no flour, etc. Anyways, if anyone tries this recipe let me know what you thought of it! :)
