I don't use tumblr as much as I used to but I still consider myself a tumblr user, you know? I still like to pretend that I'm cool, I'm hip, I know what's going on. I can jam with the console cowboys in cyberspace.
I noticed recently people mentioning Prev a lot. I assumed Prev was some tumblr user I don't follow.
Then I noticed Prev was almost always in reference to a different tumblr user than the last time someone talked to/about Prev. Does this person change their handle a lot? Are there multiple people with the same nickname? Am I misremembering the handle?
No. Prev just means previous. Whoever last wrote on this tumblr post. Like OP but sometimes lower down (although sometimes also OP).

Yesterday at the library I saw a little girl (well, maybe 12ish?) wearing the best shirt ever. It was pale pink and it had a fluffy white dog with blue ribbons on their ears and below the dog it said in a gothic font "DESTROY EVERYTHING."
One sec, let me fire up the ole Canva and see what I can recreate
hmm, the dog was fluffier and the font isn't quite right, but you get the jist! It was incredible and I'd wear it every day.

“Why don’t you use ai” idk man beyond the obvious environmental and “this machine causes psychosis and encourages people to kill themselves” thing I think asking the equivalent of a solid D student who is also a pathological liar if they can answer my question/do the work for me seems pretty fucking stupid
there is no tumblr algorithm except for the fact that if you put 5 hours of work into a post it will get 20 notes but if you put five minutes into a post with no tags that's completely nonsensical it'll get 10k.
An algorithm is just a rule that social media sites use to decide what shows up on a user's feed.
On Tumblr, it's a bit of a misnomer to say that there's no algorithm. There is one! Implemented by you! Every time you reblog something you cause it to show up on your followers' feed - you're the algorithm. It's you.

In one of my favorite storytime books (New Socks by Bob Shea) this little chick is SO EXCITED about their new socks and are bragging to everyone. At one point they pretend the PRESIDENT called to compliment their new socks. The book just doesn't hit like it used to.
