Tarana Burke said "When you experience trauma and meet other people that have a similar experience, and you show empathy for each other, it creates a bond." . . So, let me be clear. I am painted and posted this for myself and for my friends who are scared, embarrassed or ashamed to verbalize they they too have been victims and are survivors of abuse and/or harassment. I had my own internal battle wondering "what my family will think", and I have been hesitating. The fact that I was hesitant to post #metoo, has solidified by commitment to posting. Why should I have to be ashamed or scared of the things that I experienced that were not my fault? I am not ashamed. . Also, I am not naive to think that this movement will largely change the individuals who afflict abuse. . My hope is that that this movement will give others who have had similar experiences a sense that you aren't alone and that I and others will listen to you. I hope to encourage you to talk about the emotions or pain or issues you've buried because of the abuse and harassment you've experienced. The words "I'm sorry" wont heal you. But to those who are still reading, I am sorry for what you have experienced and the pain you live with on a daily basis. You are beautiful, you are loved and I hope you know that one day you will love yourself harder and become stronger through healing.
