Just so you know, LGBT+ people who are also religious are caught in the middle. If they don’t abandon their attractions, they get criticism from some well-meaning church people. If they don’t disavow their faith, they get criticism from some well-meaning LGBT+ people.

If you’re an “ally” or an “advocate,” accept people as they are. Believing or unbelieving. In or out of the closet. In or out of the church. In or out of the pride parade. Advocate for the whole individual person: weird beliefs, messy contradictions and all. Because being an ally is just about deeply caring that another person is OK. Not about waving a banner for an exclusive group.

I think people who cannot reproduce or people who are infertile should abstain, (atleast that’s what I get from reading the Bible in terms of sexual purity) also lesbians and gays who are fertile are wasting their fertility by not reproducing.

Your argument is seriously very ableist and rude. You obviously have some misunderstanding about the notions of sex and its purposes. You are strongly misguided. But unless you’re actually messaging me to listen and hear another opinion, then just go bring your negativity elsewhere.

Song of solomon is almost entirely about the love a woman and a man have for each other. Starting in about chapter 6 - the love making is described throughout. It is not described as an act of reproduction but an act of love.

Also, you completely ignored the rest of my points. If sex is solely for reproductive purposes, should people who cannot produce refrain from sex?

I’ve gone through your blog and saw the part about the Bible not saying anything about homosexuality being wrong. However, Romans 1:26 clearly shows that it is wrong. I am a woman that used to like women, but this passage put it into perspective for me, bcos if it was natural for two women to have sex the end product would be a child. I think you have some misconceptions about the purpose of sex. You should definitely consult the scriptures in song of solomon which describe in detail that sex’s sole purpose is not reproduction. Also consider, those who are unable to reproduce because of natural concerns such as being infertile should they not have sex because it would be useless? Furthermore, should couples who are not trying to get pregnant not have sex? I mean, if you say sex is useless unless you are reproducing, then we should only have sex if the intention is to reproduce.

Next, why is a major male stimulant (the prostate) located somewhere that requires penetration? That seems pretty natural to me.

Lastly, one of the main issues with homosexuality in the bible is the view of men and women as sexes in the first place. Women are seen as objects most of the time. Men have the power and are the powerful. For a man to be like a woman, was unnatural because of how women were viewed. For a man to make himself LIKE a woman, was wrong. For a woman to make herself LIKE a man, and lay with a woman was wrong because then she would have power and be dominant.

I simply don’t believe those kinds of testimonies. They sound pretty farfetched to me. I think if you authentically live your life while pursuing God then justice will prevail.

I was raised in a home where no questions asked, being gay was sinful. I always deeply disagreed with the way my parents interacted with the homosexual community, as I have several really good friends who are gay. Now I'm very sure that I'm gay, but I don't know what to do! My goal beyond anything else is to run into the heart of God, and I want to be a biblical Christian. What are some passages that I can study to further look at this myself? Also will you pray for me? Thank you!

I think the first thing you can do for yourself is ask those questions that you were raised to believe are not to be asked.

Is being gay a sin? If not being gay, is it a sin to take part in homosexual activitiy (same sex intercourse)?

I would love to direct you to some passages to help you answer those questions but there actually is not any scripture that discusses this social issue of sexuality as we understand it today. However, you may look at the clobber passages and see if they hold any truth for you.

The bible is not our purpose or reason, Jesus is our salvation and guide. We must look to Jesus to live our lives. The bible is the vehicle that brings is us Jesus. So I caution you to look first at the life of Jesus and read the bible with that biblical lens.
