If youâve ever worried about your cat wandering too far, youâve probably looked into GPS trackers. I just came across a really detailed 4-month test of the Pawfit 3s, and figured Iâd share the highlights since these things arenât cheap and the marketing doesnât always tell the full story.
Accurate live tracking (real-time updates + light/sound tracking if your catâs hiding nearby)
Activity monitoring â it logs steps, distance, rest hours, calories, etc.
Virtual fences â you can set up multiple âsafe zonesâ and get notified if your cat crosses one
Voice commands â you can record short commands in your own voice and play them back remotely (kinda cool for recall training)
Waterproof & durable â no stress if your cat gets caught in rain or puddles
Battery life isnât great. Promised up to 7 days, but in reality it lasted ~3 days with regular use.
Size â works fine on medium/large cats, but definitely feels bulky on smaller breeds.
Subscription required â you need it to unlock most features, so the total cost is higher than just the device.
Uses a 2G network, which can be spotty in some areas.
Verdict after 4 months:
Itâs solid and reliable, but not a must-buy. If your cat is on the bigger side and you donât mind charging it more often, it could be worth it. But if battery life and bulk are dealbreakers, Tractive still seems like the better choice for most people.
