Lets Have A Nice Cuppa Tea

So, I honestly thought I had left the life of fanfiction writing (and posting on Tumblr) behind in my late teens/early twenties. Life got in the way, and I honestly thought I had officially put the fanfic pen down and just settled into reading fanfics instead.

Then I was able to finally watch the new Wallace and Gromit film. And I felt the urge to pick up the pen.

I thought it would just be maybe a scene or two, and that would be it.

My mistake was forgetting that, in childhood, Wallace and Gromit was once my hyperfixation, ever since I watched the Were-Rabbit movie in the cinema. And that hyperfixation was slowly getting its claws into me once more.

Cue one short piece, one two-chapter piece, a four-part series and one long multi-chapter piece later...😅

And that leads me to here, posting a link to my AO3 account for anyone who would be interested in reading my W&G fanfics. I do have it set to Archive users only (just thought would be safer), so please bear that in mind.

I totally believe Gromit is completely fluent in British Sign Language (and possibly other forms of SL).

I just can imagine a scenario where Wallace and Gromit whilst out shopping stumble upon a lost crying child, who they quickly realise is deaf.

Gromit immediately starts signing, helping to calm the child down and get the information Wallace needs to help track down the child's parents. Whilst they wait, Gromit keeps signing to the child (translating all the Wallace's shenanigans that are currently happening in a funny manner to make the kid laugh) and by the time the frantic parents arrived, the child is completely cheered up and signing to their parents that they want a dog that can sign too!

When another character (could be Wendolene or Totty, one of the shopkeepers we've seen in the movies/games, or one of our beloved W&G police officers, you pick) asks the question on why Gromit doesn't just sign all the time and 'wouldn't it be easier for him to communicate that way', Wallace responds:

"Oh, well, in BSL at least, lip pattern is an extremely important component and...er...well, you know Gromit. You can't imagine the bunch of slip-ups that happened from getting similar signs completely mixed up! Besides, the dog's a pretty open book anyhow. You don't exactly need him to sign when you can tell what he's thinking just from the look on his face alone."

Still a little bit of error with making the line art look good; I might have to figure out how the special pens work in Ibis Paint and see if that can help smoothen then a bit more. And I'm very obviously a beginner - I don't even know where to start with adding any lighting and shading to make it look like actual night 😂.

I will also need to pull up better screenshots if I want to even attempt the wallpaper pattern in Wallace's bedroom (can't for the life of me see it well enough to know where to start - might just leave it as it is).

But for the second phase of drawing my own art for my fanfic, what do you guys think?
