“I never said you were too enthusiastic, just extremely enthusiastic.” He wondered if he was related to that Alice girl in some way, “anyway, I…” he sighs and shakes his head, “I don’t know whether or not you know what it’s like to see the place you love and trust turn into a literal hell hole, but that’s where a lot of the anger is coming from. Try to be patient with it, yeah? I’m not saying that you aren’t being patient with it, I just know that people who are constantly angry and on edge aren’t really the most…I don’t know, fun to be around I guess.” Jim knew that he had been quite the annoying bucket of angst for a long time, he doubted he was a lot of fun to be around.

“Oh.” He said softly. “Was the war thing hard for you?” He asked quietly. He knew his brother never talked about it, but it seemed people here were still recovering from it. “Are you okay?”

“A trash can might be great actually…” he said with an amused grin. A trash can would be mighty convenient if he was going to go on like this. “I’m not allergic to you…or at least, I’m no more allergic to you than anything else. Mostly, I’m just allergic to my own magic although, being around other magic tends to make my own magic more…active I suppose? I’m no sure even I entirely understand it, the healers sure don’t.” It was scary, hardly being able to keep food down, sometimes not being able to breath, feeling raw and itchy all the time…he had to wonder how long he would last. He had to wonder but he didn’t want to. “I’m here because…well, it’s dangerous for people who can’t control their magic to be walking about freely without training. it’s for the greater good, even if it hurts me and honestly…I more or less deserve this.” admitting the last part was hard but he found it easier to talk about now, maybe it was just Nathan, he was ridiculous and maybe that made it easier to admit how ridiculous he was to him. He just felt like he would understand, “it’s not all bad though, I’m going to school with you, right?”

“Oh, yeah? Well, I think that I would know that, for I am quite the cool person, myself. In fact, I’d say I’m cooler than you.”

“You’re kinda old to be cool don’t you think?”

Nathan.  Everything you do is reckless and dangerous.  Have you seen the way you eat?

What? I mean, I think I eat like a normal person, with fingers and knives and forks and spoons...

Hey, don’t worry about it. I’ll just take your word for it then. I have to admit, though, I was kind of looking forward to seeing what you had in store.

Really? Well... -he leans against the wall casually acting cool- You know it’s all a mind set really. 

“Has anyone ever told you that you’re extremely enthusiastic? You give this place too much credit mate…but yeah, as far as schools go it’s pretty great.”

“I mean... This is all I’ve ever wanted to do... I don’t think I’m too enthusiastic at all, everyone is just far too angry with things all the time.”

“If by cool, you mean cold, then yeah, I can see it,” he said dryly, rolling his eyes. He looked so stupid with just the tie on his head and he was experiencing such second hand embarrassment. “Anyway, thanks but…I’ve seen a lot of healers, I don’t think it would help, they’ve more or less figured out what’s wrong with me…” he said looking away and curling up in his chair. “I’m allergic to one of the materials used in the potion so now my body is intolerant to my magic,” he explained.

You don’t have a plan, do you?

Not really but I can do anything, I promise! I just don’t really... Have a plan... yeah...

Nah man, I meant i’m on your side. Like, moral support. I would help if you wanted me to, but this feels like your thing. Stick it to ‘em, man.

Oh! That’s cool! Yeah let’s stick it to them... Who are we sticking it to again?

“Yeah I guess,” he said. He remembered him from that one time at Paradise Falls “So you’re a student here now?”

“Yeah! I am. I am going to be the best student this school ever saw. I might even be on the quidditch team next year.” He smiled brightly. “I love it here. You must love it here to if you wanted to stay here longer!”
