i think i shall read drive as well since it's only like 100 pagessssss i'm excited i hope it's even better than the movie

i liked it btw, the nonlinearity and driver's sense of humor and the fleeting interactions he has with people who live in the real world. he's really young and i don't think that comes across in the movie. the writing style echoes stuff i've admired before, it's poetic without being flowery. here's one line i liked

i'm not quite sure if i have a preference for either the original story or the film's adaptation but i will say that the movie's direction with elevating a minor character to the role of romantic interest (and whitewashing her to further that) fucking sucks. i like stories where a guy just wants to live his life whyyyy does a woman always have to be involved

i guess i like the experience of watching the movie more than i enjoyed reading the novel (novella?) but the film really did fuck up with A. presenting things linearly and B. focusing on one relationship he has with one person. seeing all the lives he just barely makes contact with would have been sooo good. brushing your fingers against that which you can never have. the impermanence of it all...

#and i kind of like how there's no backstory in the movie i mean i guess i could take it or leave it #BUT. the way it snowballs. with every connection that comes into and back out of his life in so little time #AND ☝️ his stunt job being more significant in the book was good i wish that one guy had been in the movie
