Let Me Be Surprised

The mysterious spotted Charlie strikes again! (And he’s thicc.) And YES “Charlie’s Friends” being a former title confirmed! (I mean, we’ve had all the contextual evidence from the model sheets, but it’s so nice to have it confirmed in such a concrete fashion.)

I personally do not (because the second film and the series aren’t good) and don’t post about it. That said, I don’t want to try impose my opinions on those following the blog, so don’t say that it’s the official opinion of the blog, if that’s what you mean? 

(I’m guessing that the latter part of this message is factious. XD; )

To be fair, the soundtrack has been out of print for a very long time. So long that it’s actually pretty expensive on eBay! I don’t think Spotify can do much about stuff that’s out of print. 

That said, one of the long-running websites has you covered, including the international versions, and even from the sequels and show, if you like them. I should note only the folder labelled “original soundtrack” is the actual English release soundtrack proper, but from what little I’ve listened to, it sounds like they did a good job cleaning up the tracks on the other versions!

It’s also nice because they have the movie version of “Love Survives” which isn’t on the original CD; I had to rip that myself back in the day. 

Honestly? No real strong feelings. I suppose I be peeved about the character because of the nonsensical music number, but it’s no more nonsensical than Charlie singing about sharing, and I have admitted to having a fondness for that sequence if only because of strong memories of eating pizza I earned through Book It will watching it. But I digress.

I guess I can accept him because I fully accept that the movie does indeed have its totally nonsensical bits. (Also the bigger issue with that scene than being the titular “Big Lipped Alligator Moment” is that King Gator and Charlie can understand each other…? After the whole movie up to that point established the idea that all the animals spoke in different ‘languages’ and that was why having Anne Marie was so useful? Also, apparently she can understand rats but sewer voodoo rats are just too much for her. :O )

But then again I can wonder how humans are just not noticing… pretty much everything the dogs are doing? Charlie’s Place was pretty out in the open, not to mention the neon sign and spot lights. Oh and sometimes random strays just happen to have clothes. So yeah I love the movie but it is so silly in some parts. 

That, and since I’ve lived in Florida for a few years now, I figure he’s there because gators are just as ubiquitous with New Orleans as they are in Florida. And they were pretty good at stuffing every 1930′s or New Orleans archetype in there. (The bayou, jazz, Mardi Gras… heck even the radio play the puppies are listening to is The Shadow, which is an actual radioplay from the 1930′s! Kudos for research on that.)

By then Charlie had opened up his casino in the junkyard that he lived in, taking his customers. I always figured the normal casino patrons like Smiley didn’t know about Carface’s little surprise, so maybe the word about Charlie’s Place spread in Carface’s place and he overheard. “Screw this place, Charlie’s got his own casino! With free gifts! And dancers! In fact, forget the casino!”
