I had a dream the other night where Hasbro accidentally made a G1 pony named Angel Dust. Which, to be fair, if you remove all the connotations of PCP, it does sound like a pony name. She was hunter green with a lavender mane and matching eyes, and her flank symbol was basically this: ✨️ She was an otherwise completely normal pony, no joking drug references, nothing inappropro for kids, none of that. Normal pony, concerning name.
Anyway, now I kinda want to commission a custom figure of her. She deserves to exist and be loved, despite her unfortunate name. No idea what that would cost, though. Anywhere between $30 and $250 is my uneducated guess.
Places where reality is a bit altered:
playgrounds at night
rest stops on highways
deep in the mountains
early in the morning wherever it’s just snowed
trails by the highway just out of earshot of traffic
schools during breaks
those little beaches right next to ferry docks
bowling alleys
unfamiliar mcdonalds on long roadtrips
your friends living room once everybody but you is asleep
laundromats at midnight
• any target • churches in texas • abandoned 7/11’s • your bedroom at 5 am • hospitals at midnight • warehouses that smell like dust • lighthouses with lights that don’t work anymore • empty parking lots • ponds and lakes in suburban neighborhoods • rooftops in the early morning • inside a dark cabinet
galeries in art museums that are empty except for you
the lighting section of home depot
stairwells
•hospital waiting rooms •airports from midnight to 7am • bathrooms in small concert venues
I just got the weirdest feeling I swear
OK LISTEN THERE ARE REASONS FOR THIS!!!
A lot of these places are called liminal spaces - which means they are throughways from one space to the next. Places like rest stops, stairwells, trains, parking lots, waiting rooms, airports feel weird when you’re in them because their existence is not about themselves, but the things before and after them. They have no definitive place outside of their relationship to the spaces you are coming from and going to. Reality feels altered here because we’re not really supposed to be in them for a long time for think about them as their own entities, and when we do they seem odd and out of place.
The other spaces feel weird because our brains are hard-wired for context - we like things to belong to a certain place and time and when we experience those things outside of the context our brains have developed for them, our brains are like NOPE SHIT THIS ISN’T RIGHT GET OUT ABORT ABORT. Schools not in session, empty museums, being awake when other people are asleep - all these things and spaces feel weird because our brain is like “I already have a context for this space and this is not it so it must be dangerous.” Our rational understanding can sometimes override that immediate “danger” impulse but we’re still left with a feeling of wariness and unease.
Listen I am very passionate about liminal spaces they are fascinating stuff or perhaps I am merely a nerd.
I, for one, appreciate your passion for liminal spaces and thank you for explaining it to the rest of us.
I get the playgrounds at night because I walk to one that’s near my house at night sometimes and hang out. I always feel like I’m being watched or followed, or rather something out of the ordinary is happening
Writing a story (doing a 'finish a first draft in x number of days' challenge) and I really want it to read as:
"Yay! Power of friendship! Girls being friends! Let's go on a quest!"
"Let's do the trolly problem in real life! You are going to hate yourself no matter what your answer is!"
"Yay! Yay! Power of friendship! Yay!"
Doing 3-9k words a day and I'm almost done with the first draft. Lol do you think I could speedrun publishing a book?
I reach 50,000 words tomorrow! I don't think I've managed anything this long before!
Ladies and gentlemen! We have hit 50,000 words! :D

This is something that bugs me-- and it's not about the fact that I went to college for accounting, or that my dad has been an accountant my whole life, though the reason I know all this is due to those reasons. But it bugs me that, so often in media, when they portray someone as being unhappy in a soulless office job that they got stuck in instead of following their dreams, the job they have is labled "accountant."
Okay. Here's the thing. Remember when I said I went to college to study accounting? Probably, because it was just a paragraph ago. But that's what I'm getting at here. Accounting is a four year degree, minimum. Without an accounting degree, or an incredible bout of luck, the best you can hope for is being a bookkeeper. And in today's technologically advanced world, computers do most, if not all, of the bookkeeping for you. A bookkeeper takes down the data. An accountant interprets the data. A bookkeeper writes down where the money was spent and where it's coming from. An accountant prepares the income statement, balance sheet, statement of cash flows, and statement of retained earnings. At minimum. There's a shitton more to accounting than that, but if you're curious, that's where it starts. There's tax accounting. There's cost accounting. There's nonprofit accounting (like my dad does.)
And it's not just a four year degree. You can get a master's degree in accounting. Fuck, you can get a doctorate in accounting. But even if you don't, there's also the CPA license. A Certified Public Accountant is an accountant that has the ability and permission to perform audits. To become a CPA, you have to sit for a sixteen hour exam divided into four sections, and pass with at least a 64%. The exam is so difficult and specific that even people who just got their degree jump straight into an exam prep course. And that's just to get the license. You also have to maintain the license through continuing education. My father just got back from a week's conference that contributed to his CPE (Continuing Professional Education) hours. It was also a week's vacation on the beach with my mom, but still. That was after the day's scheduled presentations. It requires so much education that even accountants who never even intend to perform a single audit (like my dad) still get and maintain their CPA license because an employeer likes to know that you're that serious and that knowledgable in the field.
What I'm saying is, accounting isn't just a job that you "fall into" because your Plan A didn't work out, or you missed the window to follow your dreams. People are accountants on purpose. People go into university intending to spend the rest of their lives accounting. People do it because they enjoy it. Or, at least in the case of my dad, they want a stable, well-paying job (say, if they're starting a family that involves a beautiful and interesting daughter :P) that's fairly recession proof and they're not giving up a very specific dream to achieve that. And even then every accountant I've ever spoken to has stayed with it for more than a year becasue they find satisfaction in it. Or find they enjoy it when they honestly didn't expect to. Generally the kind of nerd that gets into accounting for whatever reason is the kind of nerd who stays with it. Accountants are huge fucking nerds who are obsessed with numbers. They don't even have to be good at math; a computer does all the math for them, they just have to know what the math means when it's all done.
So, yeah. An accountant is something you do on purpose, and I always roll my eyes when TV tries to tell me that accounting is somewhere you end up on accident and stay there until the TV show starts and you get a chance to follow your "real" dream.

Fans: Hey, we noticed that there were a lot of instrumentals in the "Herald of Darkness" segment of Alan Wake 2 that aren't in the extended release. Are you going to ever release a complete version with everything you recorded?
Posts of the Fall: I don't know, that would be really long. We're talking, 30 minutes or so.
Fans: You know that only makes us want it more, right?
Poets of the Fall: Well, all right, here you go [releases 30-minute complete version of Herald of Darkness]
Fans:
my favorite joke is calling every single technology even slightly out of date "old-timey." Old-timey VCR. Old-timey CRT monitor. Old-timey Wii-U. Old-timey iPhone 16. Old-timey Sims 4 update. Old-timey everything.
Me: After some deep contemplation and a lot of soul searching, I believe I can truly be trusted with The Book That Kills People from the hit manga series "No, You Seriously Cannot Be Trusted With The Book That Kills People" because I honestly believe I would use it as a last resort when the alternative is allowing at least hundreds of innocent people to die as the result of one man's actions, or other such dire black-and-white scenarios.
Me five seconds after being granted The Book That Kills People: Nawrocki! Run the license plate of that bitch who just cut me off in traffic.
“I don’t know, the fandom is pretty old, it’s probably dead by now”
The Journey to The West fandom is a thousand years old and new people join every day. Fandoms only die if you let them.
"The fandom's probably dead by now. I mean, the show ended a whole three months ago."
listen I know 3 months is an eternety in tiktok time but i need people to understand you can engage with media and fandom even if it's not trending.
this is how i celebrate pride
Once again, happy pride month to all the leg boats out there <3

One of the nice things about having written a solid but relatively unknown creepypasta is that it's not bad enough for people to make videos ridiculing it, because it's well-constructed but rather plain. But apparantly it's good enough to make people who enjoyed it want to share it with others. One person even called it a "hidden gem."
It's probably because I looked at the "lost episode" genre of creepypasta and said, "I don't find any of these tropes scary. What if I wrote a creepypasta full of things that actually unsettle me specifically?" And I think that's why it resonates with the few people who care. I wasn't using the trappings of horror to get a reaction out of people, I was exploring my personal discomforts and possibly those are shared by people who don't even realize it's something that unsettles them.
That's what horror should be, anyway.
whoever designed the page for the north carolina board of accountancy license lookup is an absolute psychopath. i am eating my own computer mouse rn.

they found out their powers don't work on each other and proceed not to talk about it for 40 years
Shout out to the (many) times I got called an elitist gatekeeper for saying that the only real way to fully understand a work of fiction is to experience it firsthand and that summaries and reviews are not a replacement for that
Me, reading the first 80% of the post: What do you mean, "experience it firsthand"? How am I supposed to join the Hunger Games or go on the Odyssey?
Me, reading the final clause of the post: Oh, you literally meant that people have to read the book/listen to the audiobook in order to fully understand it. And people got mad. Oh dear.
To quote what a friend of mine said after she watched Jerry Maguire (1996) for the first time, having thought she knew what it was about because of its cultural ubiquity: “you miss a lot of a movie when you don’t watch it”
If you don't consume a piece of media, you don't have your own opinion on it, you're borrowing it from someone else.
I always preface my statements on Cannibal Holocaust that "I heard" the thing I want to say because I won't sit down and watch it but the meta around it is fascinating.
