lethalghosts asked: [EAT] Sender brings receiver food while they're focused on another task
janis did this a lot, more than she should, really. she'd start a new project, and suddenly hours had passed. she realized it as soon as the opening of the art room door snapped her out of her trance, and she swore loudly. assuming it was cady, coming to find her since they'd had plans--all of them, cady, janis, regina, gretchen, and karen--janis had an apology ready on her tongue. actually, it would be perfectly understandable for janis to have missed that. but she was supposed to be trying, to give the ex-plastics a second chance.
"god, cady, i suck--"
"regina? i mean, regina, hey." she smiled tightly, the confusion not entirely leaving her features. if anything, her confusion deepened as she saw the fast food bag. "you brought me food? i... thanks. don't tell me, you crushed a kalteen bar in it. i'm joking! but honestly, i wouldn't blame you. oh! don't look at that, it's not done yet!"
there was a minute before janis noticed she was there that left regina standing in the doorway just taking janis in. janis hadn't been into art like this -- all-consuming, totally missing plans, casually covered in paint kind of way -- when they were friends and once they were enemies regina had been quick to declare the art room non grata. she knew where it was, obviously, but only as somewhere to avoid. even in desperate circumstances, plastics did not use the art room as a make out spot, no matter how empty and tempting it might have appeared to be. not that she was thinking about janis and the art room and making out.
regina pushed the door open with a finger and stepped in with the careful footing of someone who was worried about paint jumping off surfaces and onto her clothes. even this new version of regina, whoever she was supposed to be, was decidedly not an art freak. she'd railed so hard against a simple collage that her therapist had swerved wildly in the other direction and was pushing her to try out for a sports team. that she could work with.
her nose wrinkled at being called cady but her expression shifted into one of smug satisfaction at catching janis off-guard. "hey. i actually thought the whole kalteen bar thing was overdone, so it's just chinese. the msg will take a while to kill you." she held out the tied plastic bag for janis to take and ignored her protests about looking at the canvas. "this is why you missed holding hands and singing kumbaya?" it was less accusatory and more curious. after all, regina being here meant she was also missing out on their plans.
being hit by a bus had taken a number of things from her: the final months of her junior year, heels, crossing the street without her heart rate spiking.
regina didn't want to let it take her love for the mall.
when the spinal halo had come off and her physical therapist cleared her for activities outside the house, regina's instinct was to seek solace in familiar, temperature controlled jungle. to be seen by people. but it was going to be weird without gretchen and karen. basically since they'd become friends, if one of them had to miss a shopping trip, pictures had to be sent to them for approval. outfits for important events? put on hold until they could all see it in person. she'd spent so long with her own made up rules that part of her craved an opinion. even just so she could ignore it.
so she had dragged shane along, but by the second store he'd become so annoying that she'd sent him to the food court in hopes he would get lost there. leaving regina alone in a dressing room, scrutinizing herself in the mirror. she wasn't indecisive-- if anything, her ability to make choices for everyone was why she'd been the queen of the plastics. but there was no one more critical of her than herself when she was alone with a mirror.
when she couldn't take it anymore, she scooped up everything that had looked remotely good on her, dumped it on a counter for someone to hold, and stalked out. they'd been working on her rage in therapy and she tried to remember that basically every bad thing that had happened in her life, like, ever was because of people's perceptions of her or something. but then, what was so wrong with wanting people to tell you that you're pretty?
the scents of a thousand soaps hit her and regina is suddenly aware of where she is in the mall. how many times had she walked by pretending like she didn't know janis worked there and wanting janis to notice?
she made another decision.
"can i borrow you for like, five minutes?"

on a scale of 1-10, how scared were you that i was gonna die? /Â @lethalghostsâ.
oh, that is a shit-eating grin if she ever saw one.  itâs right on cue. ellie returns, a little worse for wear, caked in dirt and grit that sneaks under fingernails and never quite gets scraped out with the tip of any knife or brush that any of them can ever find. thereâs a new scratch across her arm that carefully avoids the ink trailing up the limb â looks a little deep, a little coarse, but all in all, ellie looks fine. positively⌠unscathed.
(thank fuck for that. she wonât admit it â now, or ever â but when the light cracked through the door and two mile-weathered converse came bouncing through, there was a heavy sigh of relief in and amongst the dark. itâs a different game out here, so far from camp, so far from anything that isnât threatening to take a bite out of you every time you turn. the weatherâs changing for the worse, and thereâs a heavy chill in the air that makes her reach for one of the tac blankets from the nearest duffle bag.)
ââ well, actually, i thought i finally got rid of you. you missed my celebration.â   she hands a blanket over, and reaches out for the newly-lacerated arm thatâs now dried a river of dark red down her forearm. fucking chainlink fences. (the touch is gentle. cautious. she twists the arm as though anything her dad taught her sunk in further than aim for the head and the pad of her thumb brushes against the lip of the wound.)
ââ just donât do anything that stupid next time, okay? you hurt anywhere else?â
âoh fuck you,â ellieâs mock offended, the smile staying on her face. sheâd thought the cut was the worst of it and then abby kneecaps her as soon as she comes in the door. figures. everything about abby is a challenge and ellie concedes the point to a worthy opponent, a clear sign sheâs off her game. as she plunks into a seat and holds her arm out for inspection she can feel the adrenaline of the outing but her very bones are weary.Â
even the gentle twist of the arm and the light probing are enough to make ellie feel the hurt; itâs a lifetime of the goddamn apocalypse they live in that keeps her from jumping or even wincing, really, at the sting of it.âif i say yes are you going to manhandle that part of me too?â manhandle. ellie has seen abbyâs body do its workâ thereâs a visceral recall of the sound of a clickerâs neck snapping under the strain of abbyâs musclesâ sheâs being treated like a baby bird in comparison. âit wasnât stupid.â she has to protest and then after a beat that fills her with the tiniest bit of guilt like the first few drops in water torture, âi rolled my ankle a little on the way down. itâs not bad.â
lgbtcorpâ:
âoh please, if i let every assassination attempt stop me from doing things, iâd never get anything done.â   itâs become a norm in her life. lex hounds her from every possible corner â prison, if youâd believe it â and active competitors are threatened by a CEO in a skirt and the will to get shit done. having supergirl there is a precaution, but not a necessity â if anything, sheâd prefer to just talk without the facade of galas and overpriced drinks getting in the way.
(straight-backed, tight-jawed â thereâs a smile that doesnât sit right to her eyes when she talks to whichever forty-something man desperate to make it onto the forbes 50 under 50, and with the right chat, they presume thatâs possible. there are wandering hands that sit just below her waistline for pictures, and a fake-laugh inducing sleazy comment that sits below the belt.)
âlena.â she repeats it like theyâre old friends â like she knows anything more than supergirl standing before her. itâs different when oneâs a superhero, she imagines, but it doesnât change her stance. sheâs going to stand right there and squeeze these heavy-handed bastards for every cent before the nightâs over. there are worthy causes that need it.
âthank you for coming, supergirl. i really do appreciate it. but iâm not going anywhere any time soon. you should stick around â iâve heard the shrimp are to die for.â
the voice in her head that sounds a lot like alexâs says lena is being stubborn. alex said the same thing about kara focusing her energy on âbeing lena luthorâs guard dogâ, torn as her sister was between mistrust and duty. kara doesnât have the same reservations. she knows what itâs like to be underestimated, the way the men in the room are underestimating lena now. not that long ago sheâd been fighting alex just for a chance to embrace the parts of herself sheâd been hiding for so long. and she wasnât sure sheâd ever entirely forgive cat grant for branding her supergirl when she might have been superwoman.
lena deserves to have her superwoman moment. this... might not be it, kara notes, x-raying the next sweaty-palmed man hoping for lenaâs attention, but lena clearly thought this was important. as flippant as she was trying to be, everything kara knew about lena suggested that she was smarter than risking her life without reason. so kara was trusting herâ or trying to trust her in the face of knowing lena was very much human and therefore all too easily... unalived.
this couldnât go sideways.
âi think i will stick around.â she thinks sheâs going to come off sounding like a cop when she says it and thatâs... ew, but it comes out more relaxed than expected. the promise of shrimp must be to blame for negotiating the disapproval out of her voice. âsomeone has to take keeping you safe seriously.â

âiâm starting to think nothing fazes you.â supergirl intones just loud enough for the sound of her voice to carry to lenaâs ear but not beyond. sheâs standing where she has been since lena insisted the event proceed: at lenaâs elbow, arms crossed over the symbol on her chest. supergirl is an approachable superhero by design and by nature but approachable is the last thing she wants to be after foiling another attempt on lena luthorâs life. the crossed arms make her look larger, more intimidating, and angling her body towards lenaâs gives them a momentâs berth from handshakes and small talk. thereâs a slight but honest awe in the way she says it; lenaâs determination is admirable and itâs impressive the way she settles into character to present strength. kara knows a little about that herself.Â
thereâs a part of her that worries, though. that part of her made a pretty strong argument for lena to call the event off. that part agreed instead to being lenaâs bodyguard while she rubbed elbows with a surprising amount of faces and names kara knew from her time as catâs assistantâ important people in national city. there wasnât much arm twisting involved so kara felt the need to make up for it now by âprioritizing lenaâs safetyââ an operation that currently consisted of trying to get to the bottom of when lena planned to leave the party. âbut we should really get out of here, ms. luthorââ a beat while she remembers, âlena,â she corrects.Â

heart almost skips a beat as she approaches beauregard, finding the feeling both odd and comforting at the same time. itâd been a while, romance hadnât been part of her life, not even an afterthought, since⌠zuala. but moving is healthy, and beau, beau is good. beau is warm.Â
â beau, â she announces her presence with the girlâs name, not that her heavy footfalls couldnât be easily heard. with one hand behind her back, yasha tells her, â i brought you something, â and promptly produces a bouquet of assorted flowers she collected over time ( and with calebâs magical help kept alive ).Â
yasha says her name and beauâs body responds by immediately breaking out into a nervous sweat. it doesnât take more than that for yasha to get her attentionâ she always has it, pinging in beauâs peripheral whenever sheâs in her orbit.Â
beauâs first thought when she lays eyes on the flowers is of zuala. and then sheâs drowning in the enormity of the meaning in the gesture. itâs not an afterthought, either, that this is the first time someone has given her flowers. (or that she didnât think she wanted them until yasha presented them to her).Â
her tongue is nearly indistinguishable from sandpaper, but it doesnât matter since she canât seem to get a coherent response out anyway. âthatâsâwowâ theyâre... dope.â smooth.Â

@wolfkiss / eivor & randvi. YEARNING MEME / are you⌠jealous?
sheâs beginning to feel like a prisoner of the longhouse. they all have their parts to play in the success of ravensthorpe, but it seems only her part involves being shackled to a table. she tries not to think of it that way. with sigurd and eivor away forging alliances, the day to day management of the settlement falls to her. but they have not grown so large in such a short time that the demands on her include more than settling the occasional dispute. she tells herself itâs sigurdâs will she executes, her husband and her jarl, but she wonders if thatâs the truth. if she knows him well enough to be able to say one way or the other. randvi knows every one of the villagers by name, knows their feuds, their squabbles. her hand is in the stream that feeds the life of ravensthorpe and she can feel which way the current carries.
and itâs not sigurd she shares this information with. the notes she leaves are for eivor. every piece of potentially useful information gathered by her scouts made from her lips to eivorâs ear, even with the knowledge that it would carry eivor away again. to forge another alliance. (she wonders exactly how many alliances eivor has forged). she was not so naive, so stupid as to want the wolf-kissed bound to ravensthorpe as she was. eivor had a warriorâs heart, and randviâs duty was to advise. but there was a part of her that she bound as tightly as odin had bound fenrir that wanted to go with her.Â
âthe skalds sing of your adventures, your glory, eivor, and you act as if i have nothing to be jealous of.â
her binding, perhaps, is not as sturdy as gleipnir.Â
