Lena finally bit her lip, sinking her teeth in the upper lip that was pouting out at the thought of Alex getting hurt. Or of Alex leavingâ of Alex thinking she wanted her to leave.
âI know youâre not most of the world, but right now isnât the bestââ she hesitated. It could be dangerous for them both if Lena spoke the words. Surely Lex had cameras installed in her office. She flashed a quizzical glance around her room.
She then glanced significantly down at Alexâs gun, where she usually kept it. âLex,â she mouthed with a sigh, looking down in displeasure. âCome on, please donât do something stupid.â she said aloud, hoping Lex would hear and listen to her.
âAh, dear sister. You had just one job, and you couldnât even get rid of the âbig sisterâ for the weekend?â Lex Luthorâs voice boomed through the speaker. âPathetic.â
Lena winced. âThereâs nothing you can do, Alex. Iâm sorry. Please run.â She begged, though other than shaking, her voice showed no fear.
Alexâs instincts were usually right - something sheâd counted on time and time again during the moments where her head and her heart were at war. This was one of those moments; she knew Lena was acting off...and the moment she saw hesitation behind her partnerâs eyes, Alex frowned, hand slowly reaching for the holstered gun Lena was focused on.
And then, there it was - the answer. Lex Luthor had come to pay Lena a visit. The second that he spoke through the speaker, Alex drew her weapon, posture ready to switch into a combat stance. It was unlikely he would show up himself, but Alex wasnât about to let her guard down.
âNo way. Iâm not leaving you.â Alex shook her head, determined expression validating her words as she stepped in front of Lenaâs form to shield her from any surprise attack. âWhat do you want with Lena?â Alex addressed Lex through grit teeth, gun aimed at the only entrance to the room, just in case anything made an appearance.
