Grell, who was your first love and probably the love of your life. In a way, you were also the only person who truly understood her for a long time; she could still remember how you ran your fingers through her short hair when she mentioned she was thinking of growing it out, and how you always painted her nails with such care.

So when she died she left a void in you that stayed there for too long, but it wasn't a surprise at all. Sometimes it seemed selfish to expect her to stay with you; after all, if anyone knew why things happened the way they did, it was probably you.

You always thought that when you died, your life would flash before your eyes in that very instant. Instead, the first thing your eyes saw was her. At first, you thought it was a hallucination, but… she looked different. Too different to have been just a fleeting dream before dying.

You never thought you would see her again—much less like that—and she never thought she would have to collect the soul of the only person who truly mattered to her.

At first, it was a strange feeling; there's always a point in relationships where you feel like you have to do everything perfectly, but with Maki, it was never like that. She always made sure you felt safe and relaxed around her. She wouldn't get angry if something went wrong, and she wouldn't say a word if you wanted to spend the whole day in your pajamas without even brushing your hair. Oh Maki doesn't mind at all drying your tears when you're sad and reminding you why she loves you when you need it, even though she considers herself bad with words. She's already chosen to share her space and time with you, and of course, she's going to do her best.

☆ Her love language is acts of service, almost always without you having to ask or even say it out loud. Maki knows you too well to know your favorite things or preferences, like bringing you your favorite snack when she goes to the convenience store without you asking, or making your favorite meal even if she uses the excuse that it was just a coincidence.

At first, not even she knows. She just knows there's a weird feeling in her chest when someone gets too close to you, or she starts to get annoyed by the fact that people around you start suggesting date some guy who looks like an idiot.

She tried to convince herself that she liked your lip gloss; that was why her eyes were constantly on your lips. Of course it was because of that, there was no other reason. And of course, she could have just satisfied her curiosity by asking the name of the product, which she never did, because she preferred to observe from afar like a silly lovesick girl. Which, in a way, she was.

Everyone around her noticed. Maybe except for herself and you. She wasn't being discreet at all because, in her mind, she was just being a protective best friend. But best friends don't feel the tension in their bodies when they receive a hug from the other or feel their hearts in their throats when hands brush against each other. She'd known you for half her life, so why did your closeness suddenly affect her so much?

But Maki realized she'd been worrying for nothing after you impulsively kissed her one night.
