People are very harshly critiquing superhero media lately, which although I understand, makes it difficult for newer films to even be given a chance as everything is characterised as superhero slop the minute it hits cinema screens. Furthermore, the protagonist is a WOMAN! I know, shocking, right? And I feel that a lot of the reviews of this movie are given by people who had certain preconceptions before going into the movie about female-led films and thus did not allow themselves to enjoy it. This isn’t helped by the fact that male audiences, which make up a large portion of the fan base concerning comic books and comic adapted movies, struggle to relate to female led films whereas women have essentially been forced to do so with male led films for decades. This means that they really only cared about the gritty action sequences, of which there were quite a few, but not overly so because just like what people loves about the Superman movie, it wasn’t just focused on showing off her flashy cool powers!
