Anyone been listening to mitski's Once More to See You? I've always associated this song with Shane and Ilya. This song tells the story of forbidden love, a love that is hidden from the public and kept to late nights (or in the case of hollanov - in hotel rooms).
But now with what's happening with H and C after the Met Gala and the overall chaos that it brought out I find that this resonate with them too.
The line, ¨But with everybody watching us, our every move.¨ creates the idea of needing to keep an image up for those watching. The feeling of pressure to look and present a certain way. This sentiment leads into the following lines, ¨We do have reputations. We keep it secret. Won´t let them have it.¨ The couple here understands the importance of keeping what they have private, they have an image and reputation to maintain. So, they’ll keep what they have secret, and not let what other people may perceive of them ruin what they have. But ultimately, it's difficult and very exhausting to maintain hiding your lover/partner from the public.
The next stanza, ¨So come inside and be with me, alone with me. Alone with me, alone. If you would let me give you pinky promise kisses. Then I wouldn’t have to scream your name. Atop of every roof in the city of my heart. If I could see you. Once more to see you," reads the yearning and pleading to spend time more together without the outside noise.
Now while listening to this song while thinking about H and C, I would feel that they just want time to be together without outsiders weighing in their opinions and assumptions no matter what relationship it may be. Whether it be platonic or romantic.
So, yeah. That's my thought for tonight.
