Summary: Kara loves her girlfriend. Krypto loves her too. But what if the super dog seems to adore her just as much as she does?

Kara Zor-El was absolutely certain of two things.
The first was that she loved her girlfriend. The second was that her dog, Krypto, seemed to too.
She wasn't sure when it had occurred to her that her super dog had such a deep and loving bond with her own girlfriend. Don't get it wrong, she didn't think it was a bad thing, in fact, it was pretty great, but she still raised an eyebrow at the thought, after all, for a dog as wild and lively as Krypto, it was surprising that he enjoyed someone's company enough to be willing to lie down completely, or even (which Kara thought was the strangest thing ever), sit on command.
Kara had never had a hard time raising Krypto. At least, if you could call it raising what she meant by the word at the time. It wasn't hard raising him, but it was definitely tiring. Although if you asked Clark, her cousin, he would probably look with desperate eyes, because he was maybe the person who was the most victimized by the dog's behavior.
So the surprise that her own dog would sit down without a word at her girlfriend's request, and even willing to stay still of his own free will, was almost like a slap in the face.
Krypto certainly didn't behave like this. For a moment, she even wondered if this was the same Krypto who would chew a pillow at all hours of the day and shake it constantly so that the feathers inside would fly everywhere in the apartment or on her ship.
But regardless of how strange it was, she was happy. After all, it just meant that Krypto loved her girlfriend as much as she did. And that shouldn't be a problem. At least, she thought so.

The evening lights of Metropolis, although dim, filled your apartment with enough light.
You loved evenings like this. It was one of those times when no evil threatened the peace of the city that would require the intervention of heroes. Furthermore, it was peaceful, so you could quietly enjoy every moment of the pleasant evening.
Especially now that Kara was there.
The smell of dinner was in the air, even though you had both finished eating half an hour ago.
You were just wiping the last plate over the sink, which was just waiting to be put in the dishwasher with the other already cleaned plates after a thorough wiping.
Kara was sitting not far from you, more precisely at the table. Her eyes followed your figure, watching every small movement of your hands.
A strange feeling always filled her at such moments.
The whole atmosphere was so intimate, almost domestic. It was almost funny to think that a few years ago she would never have imagined herself in such a moment, but now she was the one sitting there, watching your every move with an almost adoring gaze.
A smile tugged at her lips at the thought. It wasn’t too big, maybe not even noticeable if you didn’t lean closer, but it didn’t matter. Because it was exactly the kind of smile that comes to your lips in the midst of the most tender and loving thoughts.
Although she loved looking at you, her thoughts still wandered for a moment.
She stood up from her seat, then in an instant she was behind you, her arms tightly but still gently wrapped around your waist.
You were surprised for a moment, then a smile appeared on your lips, and you turned your head a little to the side so you could see her face better.
“You’re done, right?” Kara's voice came out, sounding really soft after the few moments of silence. The grip of her arms tightened a little as she tried to pull you closer to her.
You could hear the need in her voice. She hid it well, but it was clear to you now. It was a solid, small way of letting you know she wanted your attention. Although Kara wasn't the kind of person who didn't say what she thought, in such intimate moments she sometimes tended to show a much softer side of herself, hiding her feelings or thoughts behind much gentler words and requests. And you loved that you could see this side of her too.
"This was the last plate. I'll run the sink and I'm yours." you finally answered and your gaze turned back to the plate from which you had wiped the last food stain.
Kara just hummed in response, but she didn't let go of your grip.
Her hair, which was still slightly uncombed, fell lightly over your shoulders, which gave off a slight ticklish feeling.
Her eyes watched your hands for a moment, then she pressed a small kiss to your neck. It was softer than her usual kisses on your neck, but there was still that kind of desire in them that just wanted you to be as close as possible to each other.
"I was thinking we could watch a movie before we go to bed." You said, placing the last plate next to the ones you had cleaned earlier.
"Mhm." Kara hummed, and you couldn't tell if she heard what you said at all, which wasn't likely, after all, she had super hearing, or if she just didn't care too much because she seemed more interested in hugging you and pressing small kisses here and there on your neck.
"Kara..." you breathed out softly, and she just hummed again. "Did you listen to what I said?"
"Something about movies." she said lightly, as if it was the most obvious thing to say, but she seemed more interested in showering more kisses on your neck.
You sighed softly, though it was more of a loving sigh.
You turned in her embrace, wrapping your arms around her neck. You felt her hands tighten slightly around your waist in response.
You saw that slightly smug grin that you knew so well begin to appear on her face. It was the kind of grin that said you were where she wanted you to be and had achieved what she wanted.
"Stop being so smug about yourself." you said playfully, and the grin on her face only grew bigger.
"I don't know what you're talking about." she teased as her hands slid under your clothes and lightly stroked the smooth surface of your skin.
You were about to speak again when you heard a really loud and determined bark.
You both looked to where the bark was coming from, only to see Krypto wagging his tail really enthusiastically and his gaze following your form.
"Come on, buddy." Kara growled softly at the for dog interrupting the moment.
Unlike her, you didn't seem that annoyed as you removed your arms from around her neck, much to Kara's chagrin, and moved closer to Krypto, who seemed even more excited.
"What is it, Krypto?" you asked the dog, who just barked again, seemingly unable to decide whether to start running around the house again or simply fly away.
For a moment, you saw his gaze fall to the leftover dinner on the counter.
Now you understood.
Kara sighed. "No, Krypto. You can't eat it. I already told you."
Krypto just barked in displeasure in response, but he didn't look like he really cared. Instead, he kept his gaze on you, looking at you almost questioningly.
"Let him eat it, Kara. It really isn't much." you said, then you took the plate from the counter and placed it on the floor for the dog, who immediately started eating.
Kara just looked at the dog boredly, then grabbed your hand and led you to the bedroom.
Well, at least while Krypto ate, you could be alone.
A sigh left your mouth, and after a moment, you lay down on the bed. Your thoughts wandered over various movie ideas, but it was interrupted when you felt a weight weigh on you and a pair of beautiful blue eyes look into yours.
That smug smile appeared on Kara’s face again as she scanned every inch of your face. It seemed her thoughts weren’t filled with the flood of movie choices.
“I guess you’re not thinking about movies.” you noted with a small grin, and Kara chuckled, then leaned closer.
“I thought of something much better than a movie.” she said, almost whispering in your ear, then leaning back against your neck.
Your breath hitched again when you felt her lips begin to press kisses to your neck again. These, however, were much firmer and less soft than the previous ones, but still just enough sensuality to emphasize the not-so-hidden meaning behind her words.
Kara's lips began to search for the more sensitive spots on your neck and when she successfully found them, she pressed a firmer kiss that took your breath away again.
"Kara..." you breathed out and you felt that smug grin on your neck.
She loved it when you made sounds like that. She knew you enjoyed it and it made her want to continue.
Her lips moved slightly up and aimed for the area under your chin. At first they were just soft kisses, but as she moved further, they became firmer.
Your hands rose to her face and you pulled her up a little and kissed her. Kara's grin was still palpable, but as the kiss continued, she tried to get even closer.
Just as you pulled away and Kara was about to lean in for another kiss, the mattress next to you sank and a loud bark filled the space.
Krypto moved excitedly on the bed, and in a moment he was near your face, licking it happily.
The transition was quick, but laughter left your lips as Krypto’s fur lightly tickled your cheek and his tongue licked the side of your face.
“Krypto, stop!” you half-shouted, but the laughter interrupted your voice, only encouraging the dog to continue to pile you in his love.
Kara groaned in frustration.
Krypto managed to interrupt you a second time. At this point, she seriously wondered if it was intentional or just great timing.
“Come on, buddy, not again.” she growled and tried to push him off of you, but it was clearly proving harder than it looked.
Hearing the frustration in Kara’s voice, you tried to pull yourself together and tried to push the affectionate dog away, which ultimately proved successful, as Krypto backed away, though only enough for you to sit up normally, and his tail was still wagging, indicating that he still had plenty of energy left.
“Krypto, get off the bed.” Kara spoke again, which she intended as a command, although it came across more as a whine and a plea.
Krypto looked at her for a moment, his tail stopping wagging, but continuing almost immediately, then a whimper left his throat and he lowered his head into your lap.
Your hand automatically went to his head and you slowly stroked it, which only made him lean more towards you.
Kara’s eyes narrowed slightly.
Rude, she thought to herself as she watched you so effortlessly shower him with love.
"He can stay for a while." you suggested, though it sounded more like a question, and your gaze met Kara's.
Kara knew you wouldn’t send Krypto away now, and she knew she wouldn’t say no to you, no matter how much she wanted to continue what you both were doing before being so rudely interrupted.
She let out a resigned sigh and lay down on the other side of the bed, trying to get as close to you as possible, which was difficult, after all, Krypto’s body formed a slight barrier between the two of you.
Kara’s eyes glanced at the dog again, as if telling him to move away, but he was adamant. He seemed to be enjoying himself too much in your lap and had no intention of moving.
Kara let out another sigh, then grabbed the remote control that was on the bedside table.
"Okay, let's watch a movie then." she said a little frustrated, but she couldn't really get too angry when it looked so beautiful, the way Krypto was almost in your lap and basking in your love.
By the time the movie was over, you and Krypto were both asleep. The only thing that had changed was that you were lying on your side and Krypto was snuggling up to your chest, breathing softly.
Kara could only watch the situation idly. Normally, you should be snuggling up to her side or chest right now.
She sighed many times by then, but finally she settled herself on the bed too. Her gaze scanned your sleeping face, which seemed so peaceful. She glanced at Krypto for a moment, who was so strange to see so calm. As if he was a completely different dog.
Despite this, she still closed her eyes and finally fell asleep.
¯¯¯¯¯¯*¯¯¯¯¯¯
The next morning, when Kara woke up, she was a little surprised to see that Krypto was still snuggled up to you, but he was already awake. Despite that, it didn’t look like he was going to pull away from you anytime soon.
Kara narrowed her eyes.
“Krypto, let me there finally.” she whispered to him, and the dog only moved, but made no attempt to pull away.
Kara was competitive, and so was Krypto.
Although Kara really wanted to pull Krypto away now, she didn’t want to wake you up, and she suspected the dog didn’t want to either.
“Come on, buddy, please.” she begged him this time, which seemed slightly more effective than her earlier attempt to appear firm.
Krypto whined in response, but not loud enough to wake you up.
Kara thought. Krypto didn’t want to pull away, but she wanted to cuddle with you. If she wanted to make any progress, she had to compromise with the dog.
"Okay, if you let me there, you can have the leftover from the dinner for a week. Sound good?"
Krypto's ears pricked up, and Kara knew she had finally won. And although it took a few moments for him to actually pull away, he finally did.
Krypto didn't get off the bed, only moved to the end of the bed and instead curled up at your feet. His gaze fell on Kara this time, waiting for her to move closer to you.
Kara didn't hesitate.
In an instant, she was next to you, her arms wrapped around your waist and holding you tightly. The movement didn't wake you up, but you snuggled closer and pressed your face into the crook of her neck.
A smile appeared on Kara's face, then she pressed a small kiss to the top of your head.
Her gaze fell back to Krypto for a moment, who was still looking at the two of you from your feet.
It might have been tiring to convince him to move, but at least she knew that Krypto loved you just as much as Kara herself.

Kara always came back. Time varied on her returns but you knew she’d eventually find her way back home.
You didn’t have a lot of contact with her when she wasn’t on Earth. There were a few times you got lucky and happened to be around Clark during a call, but it was pretty rare.
He checked in a lot when Kara wasn’t around. You loved him for it, he was a good friend. He knew you had feelings for his cousin and though he wasn’t an expert he was pretty sure Kara felt the same way.
Whenever he got a hold of her, he’d always mention you. In fact you were the only thing on the planet that Kara ever asked about.
You knew she had some self discovery to work through. You weren’t mad at her for it. If you were in her position you’d probably handle it the same way.
“What’s on your mind?”
You were out for lunch with Clark.
You sigh, “Kara.”
He pouts a little, “I miss her too.”
“I know she’ll come back, she always does. I just wish she’d stay here a little longer.”
“I think you should tell her that when you see her,” he pushes just a little.
You mumble, “Whenever that is.”
The Kryptonian hates seeing you like this. Later that day he tries to get ahold of Kara. His usual cautious disposition falls away.
“You know I’m not the only one who wants to know when you’re coming back. Y/n misses you a lot,” Clark says to the monitor.
It didn’t seem like Kara had much interest in the conversation until she heard your name.
“Did you tell her I’d be back soon?”
Clark sighs, “I did. She knows you’ll come back, but…”
“But what Clark?”
“Kara, I know you’re going through something. I know you’ll figure it out too. Just know that there are people here who want you around, that need you,” he levels with her.
Kara looks at the ground before responding, “Are you saying that she needs me?”
Clark clears his throat, “I am. She’s always asks about you, how you’re doing. Lately she just asks when you’re coming back and every time I give her the answer I can see it hurting her.”
Kara groans at the feelings stirring up inside of her. “Tell her-”
“I really think the next time she hears from a Kryptonian it should be you,” Clark cuts her off.
He’s the one to end the call for once.
Krypto climbs into the woman’s lap. He senses the decline in her mood. She strokes his back a few times.
“It’s time to go back buddy,” Kara sighs.
Even if she didn’t want to leave yet, she would do it for you. Admittedly she’s been off of Earth longer than she would usually be gone for. The blonde was thinking of not going back.
Her cousin would be fine, he’d keep the world safe. He’d keep you safe.
Kara hadn’t accounted for you wanting to see her. In hindsight she should’ve. She knew that there was something brewing between the two of you, but part of her was hoping that the distance would help.
It was not helping her and according to Clark it wasn’t helping you either.
“What do I even say to her?” Kara put her head in her hands.
Meanwhile back on Earth you had given up on your day. Everything was going to shit. You were late for work, you spilled coffee all over yourself, you left the assignment you were supposed to be working on at home, and that was all before the lunch you had with Clark.
It wasn’t the man’s fault, but all lunch did was make you sad. You were reminded of how long she had been gone. Your mind became clouded with images of her and memories of your time together. It was too much.
You didn’t return to work, opting to just go home. You changed into something more comfortable before heading straight for the couch. There wasn’t anything you wanted to watch, but you turned the tv on anyway.
You curled into yourself and stared at the tv, hoping to find some interest in it.
You fall asleep at some point after being emotionally and mentally drained from your day. It had been a few hours before you’re startled awake by a knocking at the door.
Groggily you get up. You rarely have any visitors, so naturally assume it’s Clark.
“Superman it’s late,” you say as you swing the door open.
“Different Kryptonian.”
You raise your gaze to see a timid blonde standing there. For a moment you just stare at her, but eventually you’re throwing yourself in her arms.
If she were any less super she would’ve fallen over at the force. She holds you tightly against her.
“You’re back,” you say without pulling away.
“Yeah,” there’s comfort in the way she says it.
Kara melts into your embrace. She finds herself kissing the top of your head. She had missed you, more than she wanted to admit at first.
However with the way you were clinging onto her, she was willing to admit it a little more.
“As much as I love standing out here with you, I think we should go inside,” the blonde pulls away just a bit.
You blush, “Yeah of course come in.”
She follows you to the living room, taking a seat next to you.
“So how was it? Another space adventure for Kara the Kryptonian,” It’s jovial when it leaves your mouth.
The look in your eyes says something different. There’s a sadness there, something that Kara hates to see.
So she’s honest.
“Nothing good ever happens when I’m in space. I only go there to get fucked up and try to feel normal.”
You shift so that your entire body is facing her. Your hand reaches out to her, “You’re normal in all the ways that count.”
She takes it, chuckling lightly, “I’m literally an alien.”
“Yes but I see all of the good qualities of humanity in you,” you tell her earnestly.
Her eyes soften as they peer into yours, “I missed you.”
“Then stay longer this time,” you divert your gaze when you say it.
Kara’s hand tentatively cups the side of your face. “Are you sure that’s what you want?”
“It’s hard when you’re not around.”
“What’s hard?”
You look at her, “Everything.”
You lean in so that your forehead rests against hers. You can hear her breath hitch.
“I’m going to stay.”
“Kara-”
She’s kissing you as soon as her name falls from your lips. It’s not innocent and sweet like first kisses usually are. There’s a rawness to it, a desperation, she needs this. You need it too.
As the kiss escalates, you climb into her lap. Her hands slip under your shirt, not exploring, just resting against your skin.
“I should’ve been here to do that a long time ago,” Kara pulls away to look at you.
“I agree.”
She laughs, and it makes warmth spread through your chest. She’s here, this is real. Her lips on yours, her laughter in your ears.
“What’s that look for?”
You smile, “I’m just processing that this is real. Like I’m not dreaming, you’re actually here.”
She kisses you again, “I’m here and I’m not going anywhere.”
You close your eyes, “You can’t promise me that Kara.”
“Look at me.” She doesn’t continue until your eyes are on hers. “I’m not going to space unless I have to because this is my home. Here with Clark, with you, is where I want to be. If I have to go back to space, I’ll give you a timeline, we’ll call. If I have to fly back to Earth every day I will because it’s important to me. You are important to me.”
You let your insecurities speak once more, “More important than a friend?”
Kara doesn’t hesitate, “Y/n I’ve wanted to be more than friends for a long time now. I’m a mess of a person. A part of me thought if I left, you’d be taken when I came back. I don’t know if I deserve to be with someone like you, but fuck it’s all I want.”
“There’s no one more deserving,” you tell her.
She shakes her head, “There might be, but they won’t get the chance. I’m not fucking this up. As of now you’re mine and I don’t plan on losing you any time soon.”
You smirk, “Is that so?”
She nods confidently, “Yep.”
You roll your eyes, “As long as you know you’re mine too Supergirl.”
“Kiss me one more time, I think I need a reminder.”
You’re quick to oblige. Eager might be a better descriptor. The two of you stay like that all night. Wrapped up in each other, small conversations about things the other had missed. There’s a familiarity but also a brand new closeness. It’s a feeling that neither of you are willing to part with.

Summary: You're there to help Clark when Kara lands on Earth. You wish she could be there to help you and Clark against Lex Luthor's goons.
An: Someone commented that I work fast... so I just want to keep that narrative going 🤘
Masterlist
You met Clark in high school. From the moment you met him you could tell he was different. There was something about him that set him apart from other teenage boys. At the time you thought it was his kindness and willingness to help those in need.
When you actually became friends with him, you found out there was just a little more to it than that.
Your friend was from another planet and had abilities like no other. It took you by surprise, but made complete sense at the same time.
When Clark came clean about his powers, you decided to tell him about yours.
There was an accident when you were younger. Your father was a scientist, he left you unattended in his lab. It was only a few seconds but that’s all it took for you to ingest an unknown chemical compound.
The effects manifested over the course of a few days. You could fly, you could phase through things, and if you tried hard enough your fingertips would spark. Not a complete fire but something more akin to a jolt of electricity.
To say Clark was thrilled would be an understatement. He was ecstatic. Without knowing it you made Clark feel less alone. He felt a little more human knowing he wasn’t the only powered person on this planet.
He was a big goof then and it’s not something he ever seemed to grow out of. As the two of you aged and Clark began to fully embrace his role as Superman, you decided to stick by his side.
You fought along with him. A lot of people deemed you his sidekick but it didn’t really bother you much. When presented with a microphone he always referred to you as his partner, but people would do as they always do.
You both had to publicly address the rumors stating you were together. The mere thought of it made you sick. Clark is like a brother to you.
You’re with him at the fortress when he finds out about Kara. You’ve never seen him this nervous before. There’s definitely a level of excitement buried somewhere under his nerves, but you’d let him work it out on his own.
“I’ve got to get out there to meet her. She’ll have a minute or two before her powers hit her full force,” he says.
“You want me to come with?”
He responds quickly, “Please.”
You laugh before you stand. “Let me get my snow shoes.”
“You fly,” Clark deadpans.
You roll your eyes, “We’ll have to land at some point.”
“Fair.”
The two of you exit the fortress. Clark leads and you follow closely behind him. You think you see the pod at some point but you aren’t a hundred percent sure. Not until Clark starts to make his descent.
You land maybe a minute before the pod cushions itself against the snow. You’re behind Clark when it opens revealing a girl. For a moment the dark haired man just stares, eventually you nudge him.
He clears his throat and begins speaking to the girl. She speaks back in something that isn’t English. Clark blinks at the blonde.
“What is she saying?”
He makes a face before scratching the back of his neck, “I don’t speak Kryptonian. I was raised here, remember.”
“Right, well help her out you goof,” you gesture to her.
Clark scrambles to extend his hand which she takes. Her blue eyes lock onto you once she’s free from the ship.
“That’s Y/n, she’s pretty nice for the most part,” Clark jokes.
You roll your eyes, “Very funny Superman.”
You hardly notice she’s holding a dog until it rushes full speed at you. The dog collides with you with a lot of force and speed. He knocks you back a few feet but it’s a good thing you can fly. There’s an audible breath that comes out of your mouth.
“Super dog, that’s pretty neat. You’re a strong boy aren’t you?”
The blonde watches with intrigue as Krypto plays with you. It’s then that her powers hit her. Clark helps steady her as gold beams surround her eyes.
“Woah, yours aren’t usually beautiful like that,” you comment.
“Just help me get them to the fortress please.”
You salute with one hand while holding Krypto with the other. “Aye aye sir.”
You make your way back to the fortress. Once you sit Krypto down he’s exploring the area at break neck speeds.
“Reminds me of me when I first got here,” you watch with amusement.
Clark chuckles before refocusing his attention on Kara, “I know that we’re a pretty advanced race of people. With the yellow sun, I think you should be able to learn English in a few hours.”
You see him about to speak again but something stops him. Your eyes sharpen, “Metropolis?”
He nods, “Something is going on I can sense it. Kelex, show me Metropolis.”
A screen appears out of nowhere. You watch as an army of toys march through the city, causing chaos.
“Looks like Toyman picked a shitty time to schedule a play date.”
Clark groans, “He couldn’t wait a few hours?”
You look at Kara who has her eyes locked onto the screen. Then back at Clark, “What do you want to do Superman? I can handle it and you can stay, you can handle it and I can stay, or… we can all go. She looks pretty interested.”
Clark only takes a moment to respond, “I’m going. You stay here with Kara, try and teach her English.”
“Got it. Go save our city.”
Kara watches as he takes off. When her eyes snap back to you they are curious.
“I’ve never taught anyone English before so I don’t really know where to start,” you talk to her.
She points at herself, “Kara.” Then she looks up to where Clark just left. “Kal-El.” She points at you next, “Y/n.”
You nod, “Those are our names.”
She repeats after you, “Our names.”
You smile at her, “Fast learner. I have an idea, come with me.”
You extend your hand and she takes it. She’s warm, you wonder if it’s a Kryptonian thing. Clark is always warm too.
“I think if I just show you some movies you’ll pick up on the language. Most movies are pretend, actors play characters to tell stories. It’s not real, just for entertainment. You seem like an action kind of woman, Die Hard is one of my favorites.”
You turn on the movie and Kara watches it with you. She stays silent the entire time. You go back and forth between watching it and looking at her.
When it’s over you’re startled to hear her speak.
“Play another movie. Something different,” she says.
You nod, “What kind? There are funny movies, sad movies, romance movies, dramas, sometimes a mix.”
Kara pause, “I need to watch something… for my brain.”
You furrow your brow, “Something that makes you think? Stimulating is the word.”
“Yes, something stimulating.”
“I always like a good murder mystery. I’ve got the perfect movie.”
You watch a few more movies with Kara. She talks more throughout the others. The Kryptonian has questions and you answer them to the best of your abilities. By the end of the third movie she seems almost completely fluent in English.
“Where did Kal-El go?”
“He went back to Metropolis. Honestly we’ll probably end up there before the night is over too.”
She tilts her head, “Why?”
“Well Clark and I help people in need. Kal-El is Clark by the way. Metropolis is where we live. We moved here together after college.”
“Do you love Clark?”
You nod, “Only in a friendly way not romantically. Clark is like my brother and besides I’m gay.”
“What does that mean?”
“I’m only interested in women romantically.”
Kara hums, “Me too.”
Before any more conversation can ensue, Clark comes back. He looks just the same as when he left.
“Toyman has been dealt with. How are the English lessons?”
“Good. I understand now,” Kara replies.
Clark is almost taken aback, “That’s awesome Kara.”
“Are we going to Metropolis?”
“Not yet, I want to teach you about your powers first. Then we can go.”
She looks confused, “My powers?”
Clark claps his hands together, “This planet has a yellow sun. The sun enhances our innate abilities making us stronger than others here. With great power comes great responsibility. We have a duty to the citizens here to keep them safe from things they can’t protect themselves from.”
Kara looks at you, “Do you have powers?”
You show her rather than answer. You phase through some of the ice and furniture before floating like Clark. You even show her the sparks of your finger tips.
“Fire?”
You blush always a little embarrassed by the lack of power, “Just the sparks. It’s like a little shock.”
She smiles, “I think it’s very cool.”
“Thanks Kara. Well while you do the super training, I’m going to head home. I’ll see you both there,” you attempt to exit the fortress.
Clark stops you just before you do, “Could you tell Lois about this? It may or may not have slipped my mind. I don’t want her to worry.”
“You’re definitely going to be in the doghouse Superman, but I’ll let her know.”
“I know,” he frowns.
You laugh, “Good luck with training.”
“Bye Y/n,” Kara waves to you.
You shoot her a smile, “Bye Kara.”
That was three years ago when you first met Kara. Back then she was definitely different. You chalked it up to her not having the proper tools to express herself then.
However once she got those tools it was definitely chaotic to say the least. You all lived together in the apartment you and Clark rented out. There was quite the adjustment period, especially with Krypto, but it worked out.
Occasionally Supergirl would help the two of you when the city was in danger. Most of the time, she just did her own thing. Kara liked to go back into space which Clark was a little apprehensive about. She always came back, but it was anyone’s guess when she would.
You may or may not have developed a little crush on her over the years. Of course you did nothing with these feelings. You thought it might’ve been weird since you sort of taught her English. There’s also the fact that you view her cousin as your brother.
You definitely don’t view her like you view Clark. Maybe it’s because Kara is like ten times cooler than him. It could be her rugged charm. The fact that she’ll always do what’s right, but in her own way.
She’s noble like Clark. She enjoys helping humanity like he does. It’s just the way she sees things compared to him.
Sometimes Clark can be very black and white when it comes to things. Even though she’s two years younger than you guys, she can see the gray area.
You honestly wish Kara was here now. This would be a much easier battle if there were two Kryptonians instead of just one.
“I’m tired of getting my ass kicked by these two losers,” you say out of breath.
It’s you and Clark in the middle of the field back to back. Ultraman and Engineer were circling the two of you.
“Me too,” he says, squaring his jaw.
You know that look. Clark didn’t show his anger much, but it was never a good thing when he did.
“We can’t get sloppy Superman. That won’t help us here,” you try to reason with him.
He clenches his fist, “I know.”
He’s taking off towards Ultraman soon after that.
“God dammit Clark,” you say to yourself.
You approach the woman who could shape shift. No words are exchanged, you simply start fighting.
She attacks aggressively putting you on immediate defense. It is a lot of phasing to avoid her attacks. It's risky considering all of the things she was throwing at you. If you were to phase at the wrong time you could definitely end up skewered.
“Stay still!” The villain growls in frustration.
“Don’t think I’m taking that advice.”
You’re tired but you’re holding your own. You can handle one of them but you hadn’t noticed Ultraman approaching until his fist connected with the back of your head.
You go down like a sack of potatoes straight into the grass field. You feel the weight of the man on your back and you can see the woman’s feet approaching slowly.
You struggle and attempt to phase through the ground but you’re panicking.
“Looks like Superman will need a new sidekick,” her hand transforms into a dagger.
“You won’t win.”
She smirks, “Looks like winning to me.”
She goes to plunge her arm into your back but before she can connect she’s knocked out of the air. Ultraman gets off of you to assist her. You roll over on your back to see Clark taking on the two villains.
Everything hurts but you make it to your feet in time to see the nanites climb up Clark’s body and into his mouth.
“No,” you whisper to yourself.
You see Clark fall to one knee. You fight the urge to scream out his name.
“I was wrong, looks like you’ll need a new her-”
The woman doesn’t finish her sentence. She stops once she sees the tips of your fingers sparking.
Your entire life it’s only been sparks but something changes in this moment. It rips through you, and you feel like you’ll be split in half.
You’re floating in the air. Your eyes roll to the back of your head. Only the whites are left. You don’t know what’s happening, but you let it take over you.
You scream when it happens. So does the woman made from nanotech. Though his face is covered Clark can feel the nanites stop moving. He also feels the static of electricity all throughout his body.
He starts coughing out the nanites and pulling them from his face successfully.
Engineer lays on the ground convulsing. When his vision recovers he sees electricity coming off of her in waves.
Ultraman seems to be struggling to get his footing. Clark glances up to see you still floating in what appears to be a bubble of electricity.
You’re falling out of the sky before he can call out for you.
He rushes to catch you but as soon as he touches you he gets shocked. He continues to endure it until you’re safely on the ground.
“Shit. Y/n, you can’t die here. You can’t,” Clark grows more frustrated at the situation.
Angry tears gather behind his eyes. He refuses to believe you’re gone. The yell that comes out of his mouth feels like it’s shaking the Earth.
Ultraman gets up at this time. Clark doesn’t hesitate in attacking the villain. Superman punches him before getting a grip of his attire and flying him across the city out of pure spite.
You still lay on the field unconscious but pulsing with electricity. You saved Clark and he’s going to save the world. Maybe this is what it would take for people to stop calling you his side kick.
“Y/n,” the voice that calls your name is panicked.
They lean next to your body then curse as they’re shocked, “Shit. Not just a spark anymore is it.”
They lift you off of the ground, “Sting me all you want, but I’m not letting you die. Can’t even leave for a few weeks without something shitty happening.”
A hand cups your cheek, “I will totally kill you if you die on me Y/n. You aren’t allowed to.”
You’re in the air for what couldn’t have been more than three minutes.
“What the fuck happened to this place? I know there’s something here that can help you,” there’s another long pause. “I really wish you’d do something besides shock me so I know that you’re alive. Anything Y/n.”
Your hand grabs her shirt. You’re still unconscious, your eyes are still closed, but your fingers coil tightly against the material of her shirt.
“That’s good. Thank the gods,” Kara feels relief pump through her veins.
“I’m going to fix this. I don’t know how yet, but I’ll figure it out,” she sits your body down on the table.
You gasp for air and you sit straight up before she can walk away. You’re hyperventilating, but you’re conscious.
“Looks like I don’t have to figure anything out.”
You look around, “Where’s Clark?” You’re already attempting to stand.
Kara puts her hands on your chest, “No way you’re going out there like this.”
“Kara you’ve been gone. The stakes are high, I have to-”
“No,” she leaves no room to argue. “You’ll stay here, I will find him.”
“But-”
She steps into your space. There’s almost no room between you. You see her eyes dart to your lips. She doesn’t hide it, “You’re going to stay here because I refuse to lose you like this. I know Clark can’t do it on his own, but he won’t be. Now just listen to me for once.”
You nod, “Okay.”
She steps back, but then closer again. She presses her lips to your cheek, “Just rest I’ll be back.”
You listen to her. Partly because you believe in her, the other half because your body is aching in a way it hasn’t before.
As much as you would like to attempt to clean yourself up or to shower, you simply don’t have the energy. You know the fortress has connections and cameras to show you everything that’s going on, but you don’t trust yourself just to stay put if you were to watch.
So instead you sink down on the couch and put on a movie. It takes less than 20 minutes for you to fall asleep.
You’re jolted awake by a rough ball of fur pouncing on your stomach. You groan but reach your hand out to pet him.
“Easy there Krypto, I’m tender.”
“Y/n?” Clark rushes into the room.
He looks rougher than you’ve ever seen him.
You meet him half way in a hug that hurts but feels secure at the same time.
“Are you okay?” You ask, glancing over the man.
He turns the question back on you, “Are you okay? I thought you-”
He can’t even get the word out.
“I’m here, Clark. You’re here too so I guess that means we won.”
He clears his throat, “Much easier with two Kryptonians.”
“You know you can call next time if there’s something important like this. I’ll come back,” Kara looks between both of you as she speaks.
You sigh, “Leaving already?”
She catches your eye, “I think you both might need a little R and R. Someone has to keep the city safe in the meantime. So I guess I can stick around for awhile.”
You perk up, “Good. How are Lois and the others?”
Clark exhales, “Everyone is safe but the city is definitely going to need some fixing.”
“Should we go home?”
“That sounds like a good idea,” Clark agrees.
Kara shakes her head, “So we’re just going to ignore what happened to you on the field? We need to figure that out before we have the ‘Everything will be okay,’ moment.”
You frown, “Well my sparks obviously stopped sparking.”
“I think I know someone that can help but it might be awhile,” Clark says.
Your frown deepens, “You don’t mean Bat Brat do you?”
“Bruce has access to advanced technology that can-”
“He’s so annoying,” you complain.
Kara comes over to your side, “You have to let this Bruce guy help you out. He’s probably your best bet.”
You grumble, “Fine, call him.”
“Superman, why are you calling?”
Clark points to you, “Y/n has developed some new abilities and we don’t know anything about it. We were wondering if you could help us out.”
“What kind of abilities?”
You answer, “Electricity or something. Not entirely sure. It just exploded out of me really.”
Bruce nods curtly, “Come to Gotham in 3 days. I’ll see what we can do.”
“Thanks Bruce.”
“You’re welcome, Clark.”
After the call ends you clap your hands together. “Can we go now?”
“Let’s go home.”
Clark doesn’t stay long once you’re back to the apartment. He’s off to see Lois and then back to the city.
You go straight to your room. Your body is still stiff and sore. You struggle to peel yourself out of your suit, ultimately giving up half way.
“Need a hand?” Kara leans against the door frame.
You’re out of breath and you nod reluctantly.
“Never noticed it was all one piece,” she takes a closer look at the suit.
“Yeah it’s supposed to be for convenience but it doesn’t feel very convenient today,” you grumble.
She gets up close behind you, “Is there a zipper or something?”
“Yeah but the suit is pretty stuck on me. I think there might be some blood stuck somewhere. So you’ll have to help me peel it off.”
Kara doesn’t flinch, “Don’t worry, I’ve got you.”
She finds the zipper quickly. It drags down the length of your back. The suit does not move at all.
Kara finds herself staring at the curve of your spine. She’s shocked to see you standing due to the state of the skin she’s looking at.
“What?” Her silence makes you worry.
“Let’s keep going before I say anything. We have to see the rest.”
Kara takes the unzipped parts of the suit and slides them down your arms. You hiss, but she keeps going. She’s able to get about half way down before you jump away from her.
“Fuck!”
You press your hand to your abdomen. Blood stains it when you pull it away.
“Let me see,” Kara turns you around to face her.
There’s a nasty gash. The blood almost looks dry. Kara gets down on her knees to be level with your injury. She uses her x-ray vision to look at the wound.
“It’s not that deep. We can clean it and then close the wound with medical tape,” she looks up at you when she speaks.
You swallow hard seeing her in this position. The pain almost subsides as she looks into your eyes.
You only look away for a second before you get a glimpse of your back in the mirror.
“Holy shit.”
Your back seems to have purple patterned bruises across it. You look down and see the same bruising along your chest and abdomen.
Kara can see the curiosity in your eyes. She lets her hands trace the patterns on your skin. She stands placing just a small distance between the two of you.
“Does it feel like anything?”
You meet her eyes, “It doesn’t feel any different than when you normally touch me.”
She doesn’t miss a beat, “And how does that normally feel?”
“Electric.”
She raises an eyebrow, “You’re flirting with me.”
“I can stop,” you take a step towards her.
She takes a step towards you, “Did I ask you to stop?”
You take the last step closing the gap between the two of you. You’re face to face. She stares at you and you stare at her.
The tension rises and you open your mouth to speak at the same time she leans in.
Whatever you were going to say is forgotten the moment her lips touch yours. Neither of you are the patient or gentle type. The kiss is all passion and longing.
Your hands tangle in her hair. Her hands rests against the skin of your abdomen. You’re both trying to have self control. It’s not working.
You moan into her mouth giving her tongue a chance to slip into yours. You match her energy not trying to fight for dominance, but rather going with the momentum.
“Guys I’m bac- oh my god,” Clark bursts into your room.
Kara shoves you away out of reflex and your back hits the wall.
“Ouch,” you say, as you slide down the wall.
“Shit. I’m so sorry Y/n,” Kara is by your side in an instant. “Let’s uh, let’s get you patched up.”
“I um, I support that by the way. Like the two of you together. Not seeing it, I mean like there’s nothing wrong with seeing it. I just mean that-”
“Clark,” you say his name sternly.
“Right, um well I’ll be out here. I’ll also make sure to uh, to knock next time,” he leaves briefly before poking his head back in, “Congratulations.”
“Clark!” Kara exclaims it this time.
He exits the room this time not returning.
You laugh as you let the back of your head loll against the wall. “Remind me to never get on your bad side.”
“I’m so sorry, I just panicked.”
You wave her off, “I can’t possibly be more sore than I already was.”
“I didn’t panic because it’s not what I wanted. I did want it. I mean, I do want it. Whatever it is with you. I don’t care if Clark knows,” she begins to ramble.
You take her hand, “Well that’s good to know because I like you a lot.”
“I know I haven’t been around a lot lately. I’m always going to space, but I’m going to be more present here. This is my home, here with Clark, and Krypto, and you.”
You smile, “Even if you were in space, I’d still want this Kara.”
She kisses you again. It catches you off guard but you kiss her back.
“You’re lucky that kind of cheesy shit looks cute on you.” She stands, extending her hand for you to take.
You let her help you up, “You should’ve never told me that. I’m never going to stop now.”
She shrugs, “Maybe that’s the point. Now back to the task at hand.”
You get a dopey look on your face, “You mean the part where you undress me, tend to my wound, and help me shower?”
“If you don’t wipe that look off your face I’ll have Clark help you instead.”
You promptly stop talking.
“That’s what I thought.”
You pout, “Can I at least have one more kiss?”
She gives you a chaste kiss.
“Now shut up and stop distracting me.”
You salute her, “Yes mam.”
“You’re so lame,” she huffs as a grin tugs at her lips.
“You like that about me,” you say smugly.
There’s nothing Kara can say to combat it. She does truly find it endearing when you say things like that. It’s almost the complete opposite of anything she could picture herself saying. Perhaps that’s why she likes you so much.
So instead of playing into the bait and arguing with you she just smiles softly.
