personal blogs allowing access to only users you approve, âfriends lockedâ
on said communities all members see the post rather than it depending on who reblogs it and who follows who
communities being members only means that posts can be moderated before being posted publicly, ie no raids (except the mods might see some shit and delete it lol)
ability to create sticky posts, ie important posts everyone needs to see will remain static; iâd personally use sticky posts to make a guide directory (including a guide⊠on how to use livejournal lmao)
ability to make private posts if you need to
because other users must have an account to be able to join and view content, less chance of infiltration; no random lolcows
comment threads on posts instead of reblog chains
can turn ip logging off on journals and communitiesÂ
friendslist system similar to the dashboard where you can see posts from personal journals and community posts (but no repeats unless manually crossposted)
tracking system where you can opt into get various notifications for different things. want to see all comments that get added to a post? track it. want to see all new posts added to a specific tag on a specific community and ignore others? track it
not seeing the same posts over and over
differentiation between personal and lifting related content (personal posts on personal journals, lifting content on a community)
âmemoryâ system where you can bookmark posts which can also be made private if you so choose (akin to turning off displaying likes)
they donât fuck around with the ui as much, itâs been basically the same for nearly 10 years, ie âif it ainât broke donât fix itâ mentality on part of the devs
direct/private message system
hardly anybody uses it. people donât remember it if theyâre old, or even know about it if theyâre young lol. weâre less likely to be found except by word of mouth. the tiktok borrowers probably wouldnât be interested lmao
despite it all theyâve been trucking 20+ years so theyâre probably not going anywhere soon
questions wouldnât be limited to just one userâs askbox, people could make a general post for various people to respond to
because posts would be members locked, they wouldnât appear in public searches, nor would the community because it wouldnât be tagged. no more fear with the ridiculous character replacement shit
responding to comments is way more direct that the stupid tumblr âtake a screenshot of a comment someone made on your post that you canât see all of because itâs cut off short and lost in the notes sectionâ shit
they have dumb fun little extras on their posts, such as saying what music youâre listening to, or what your mood is, or uploading numerous icons and deciding which you want to use for what post/comment lol
they now have a âshareâ system akin to reblogs (you can share across platforms, but for this purpose you would select share > to livejournal)
they now have a system where you can upload photos directly like tumblr
shitheads, when banned, are banned from the entire community. a mod being able to say âfuck off byeâ is a good thing for security and nipping issues in the bud
iâm not sure if thereâs a limit to the image hosting
people have said itâs not as easy to use
afaik when you share a post, you canât add to it, butâŠÂ
since ip address tracking would be off, canât ban ppl by ip address
compromises on livejournal cons:
since itâs a static post with comments then just⊠comment on the post lol
can still use tumblr as image host via uploading as private posts. rich text editor allows you to share images as long as you have the direct link for it, or you can use html if you prefer. no longer necessary, but it can also be done this way if ya wanna â
can still be learned and guides can be made
can always make backups as private posts or w/e on your own journal â
can be a pro and/or a con depending:
when a post is deleted itâs gone across the platform, same if a user deletes their account. so if you want to reference something it may disappear. but, itâs also safer because other people donât have the ability to keep your content around
all members on a list in communities so itâs easier to tell whoâs in the community. but, since content would still be members-only or friend-locked, random outsiders would still not have access to content
youâd need to know the specific community to access since thereâs no public tags. this makes it harder for lifters to find, but less of a security risk like public tags. there are public âinterests,â which operate like public tags, however, but i donât recommend using them for security purposes
since content would be members only, there wouldnât be an anon ability (while livejournal has anonymous comment ability similar to asks, to even access the community youâd still have to post under an account, so for our purposes it essentially wouldnât exist)
members only community means that mods can preemptively deny membership to users; this is good for security reasons, ie an obvious troll wouldnât as easily be able to infiltrateâŠÂ but bad if a genuine user gets denied. could be sorted out via pm tho?
itâs time to fucking migrate why are we still on this website and putting ourselves at more risk iâve been harping about this for like 5 years
