Screaming, Crying, Throwing Up

Good morning, all! Come look at the new art commission I got from @lemongrass--tea: a quiet moment in the life of the elusive witch of Stardew Valley.

The witch's aesthetic is inspired by folk magic, particularly that seen in the video game South of Midnight. In the artist's own words:

South of Midnight's world is based in hoodoo and African American folklore where practitioners use needles to weave magic, hence the hat pin in place of a different tool like a wand. And the view of her examining the egg is almost a little ominous because of like the vascular creepiness of the developing fetus, but there's still warmth in her expression because I imagine she has some attachment to the little lives that she (presumably) morphs into the void chickens.

Indeed, this woman may not have a great reputation. (Admittedly, all we know about her in the game comes from her ex, Rasmodius.) But I, too, can't imagine her as a purely malicious spirit. Instead, I imagine that when she isn't busy cursing people, she tends to the unwanted children who've been turned into doves. Her distribution of Void eggs is in fact a test of one's capacity for unconditional love--something she's always longed for, and something Rasmodius failed to give her when they were married.

Cinnamon Dog-faced Bat Cynomops abrasus

A bat from northern and central South America. The bat roosts in decayed logs and hollow trees, and tends to pick relatively warm area to roost. They are insectivorous and usually feed on hard-shelled insects.
