Marriage is aΒ funny thing.
How does that quote go? βIf you think βhappily ever afterβ starts once you get married, you couldnβt be more wrongβ? I know thatβs what they say, but the hopeless romantic in all of us never fully believes it. Even after marriage, and the realization sets in that the quote is an absolute fact, we still think to ourselves:Β βOther peopleβs marriages arenβt as fucked up as mine.β
Itβs toxic that we grow up thinking that marriage is a beautiful thing. To put it bluntly, itβs really nothing but a long, grueling, relentless sea of fights and heartache, with a few waves of good moments that, hopefully, are nice enough that when you look back at your marriage, you find that the pain was worth it because of those moments. A terrifying concept, but true, none the less.
Marriage is a funny thing, because marriage is a joke.Β
