I did not know about Proty when I read âDeath of Supermanâ nor was I aware that Proty had been masquerading as Supergirl at the time.
So when Doomsday punched Supergirl(Proty), I thought he had punched her SO HARD that he literally punched the color out of her.
If you donât know thatâs Proty, this is such a lurid image to see.
Matrix Supergirl isnât a Proty⌠sheâs a protoplasmic shapeshifting life form from another dimension, but sheâs not a Proty.
Please please please tell me more. Where did she come from? What is her deal? This is not Proty?? Did Doomsday literally punch the color of her!?
After Crisis on Infinite Earths, Kara Zor-El was erased from continuity. Completely. She wasnât allowed to be used and even her earth 2 counterpart Power Girl was given a new backstory as the descendant of an Atlantean wizard.
So Byrne created a new Supergirl. In universe, Matrix was created by Lex Luthor of a pocket dimension. Mae was a protoplasmic lifeform who could shapeshift, fly, and had telekinesis. In this dimension, Superman didnât exist. When their dimension was threatened, Lex called on the main timeline Superman to help, but Clark was only able to save Mae, who he sent to live with his parents in Smallville.
Eventually Mae fell in love with the main timeline Lex, who was pretending to be his own son and Australian at the time, before finding out he was trying to clone her. She found the dying Linda Danvers and fused with her, creating a new Supergirl that was both Linda and Mae.
Mae is technically goo so when sheâs being punched here sheâs just turning back into goo form.
