Shadow of the waves
Chapter 1:
A young mermaid swam into a large circular stone room, hiding behind the pillars evading the sight of any of the adults swimming around the room. Her long platinum colored hair, flowing around her head and upper torso. The color matched the light stone behind her almost perfectly. Her Golden eyes scanning the room for anyone who might see her.
Quickly he swam to a pillar slightly closer to the other side of the large room. Several voices spoke among themselves, the girl showed little to no interest in the conversations surrounding her as she made her way to the other side of the room, still unnoticed by the other merfolk in the room.
Suddenly one voice came out silencing the room instantly, the voice was loud and commanded respect just by a word, though is had a very kind soul behind it. The merman at the other side of he room spoke again.
"Now, my friends. I thank you for the support in my early retirement, and my son's rise to the throne." He said, gesturing to the significantly younger merman behind him. The younger merman gracefully swam up next to the older one. Both smiled looking out a the room of smiling merfolk.
The young mermaid continued from pillar to pillar coming closer to the two mermen who were still looking out to the crowd of smiling faces. Finally the cheering crowd quieted as the older merman raised his hand, signaling for silence.
Suddenly something caught the attention of the platinum haired mermaid. One particular merman who didn't even seem to be smiling, or clapping with the others, he seemed more mad, as he glared at the two mermen up in front of the crowd. He had short black hair and his eyes seemed to be almost a blood-red. One of his eyes was surrounded by a darker color seemingly a large burn mark.
Slowly the Merman turned just enough to see the young mermaid hiding behind the stone pillar watching him. His frown quickly turns to a devilish grin as he watched her shy behind the pillar once again. Something about this merman felt familiar somehow.
The girl looked up where the two mermen were, her golden eyes turning slightly darker to a more brownish color, as fear began to fill her mind. She tried to focus on the words of the older merman again but found it much harder now.
"Now I know non of you came hear for a long winded speech. So lets just move right to the thrown room, and truly start. shall we?" The older merman said, gesturing towards the door the young mermaid had come in from before. Quickly the crowd parted right down the middle, revealing a red and gold carpet on the floor.
As the two mermen began swimming past the pillar the girl was behind, she quickly bolted out from behind the stone pillar, and quickly hugged the older merman tightly, causing the older merman to laugh slightly and hug back, picking her up to hug her tighter. The three continued swimming out the door.
The older man looked down at the young girl, smiling. "I wondered where you had gotten to, Ameerah." He said, looking back up to the door. Ameerah looked back to the other merman swimming beside them, a the merman let her down. "Exited?" She asked, still holding the hand of the older merman.
The merman gave a nervous smile and knotted, looking straight at the door. The girl looked at him sadly. "You should relax, Asem. Our people loved you, you'll do fine." the older merman said, trying to help his son relax a little. Asem looked down for a moment thinking. "Easy for the two of you to say..." He said looking back up to the door. The young mermaid looked at him worriedly.
Slowly the girl looked behind them, seeing the crowd following them, suddenly she noticed the same merman from before, watching with a dark grin on his face. Ameerah turned back to the older merman beside her. "Dad, theres a man hear I don't recognize." She said quietly. The joy-full smile on his face turned to a look of worry and fear.
"where is he?" He asked, looking directly at the door-way just ahead of them. Ameerah looked back to the direction she had seen him before, only to no longer see him. "He's gone..." She replied worriedly, looking back at the older merman. The look in the old man's eyes made his already white hair look even paler. "What did he look like?" He asked, still looking ahead.
Ameerah hesitated trying to remember the details of his face, though one thing that she didn't even need to think on was the burn-scar around his right eye. "Um... He had short dark hair, red eyes, and a weirdly shaped burn-scar around his right eye. And he didn't look happy." She finished, looking up at the worried face of her father, who had gone pale in the face now.
The three went out the door, seeing meany guards around the aria, helmets kept there faces hidden. on the other side of the large courtyard stood two large thrones, surrounded by status of merfolk. Ameerah had ben told that they were built to resemble the past royals, so they would always look over them. And just behind the thrones stood an all to familiar face engravin in stone.  The face of her mother, though Ameerah had no true memories of the women, she had the word of her father and older brother, and the statue to put a face to it.
Ameerah looked over to her father, as he looked over to one of the guards, gesturing for the guard to come. The guard quickly swam over and saluted. Though his helmet concealed the face of the guard, Ameerah recognised his voice intently as the head of the guards. He had willingly looked after her several times, and the two had become quite close.
Ameerah could hear her fathers voice speaking in a whisper. "Jefery, keep an eye on everyone, ok? I fear 'he' May be back." Jefery noted, swimming back to his place at the side of the room. The three continued swimming twords the thrones. "Dad, what's wrong?" Ameerah asked, looking up at her father again. He hesitated before answering. "I hope nothing." He replied, his voice sounded hollow, like he had lost all emotion.
The girl looked over to her brother worriedly, Asem looked just as concerned as there father. His silver eyes looking almost hollow. The three soon came to the thrones, and Ameerah swam off to the side to get out of the way. She ended up next to one of the guards who held a long sword by his side, though it seemed different from the usual sword she wold see the guards holding.
The sword they wold usually wield, would have a silver hillt with a small bit of metal that went on the outside of the hand to help keep a better grip, and a curved guard witch looked like it was designed to look like a wave of the sea.
This sword seemed to have a much darker Idea behind it. It had a more golden hint to it's hillt, with two dragons at the pommel of the hillt, and something that looked like dragon wings at the guard of the hillt. The wings themselves looked like they could slice through just about anything.Though it seemed the right length.
Ameerah looked up at the guard who had the sword. Like the other guards he had a helmet that concealed his face. It was supposed to keep there identities obscure so no one could guilt them for an order they were issued. But this guard didn't seem to have that particular function in mind.
Ameerah turned to her father as he began to speak. "Asem, Abano. You are the eldest air to my throne, and by law you take my crown as I leave this position as king, and leave it to you. Do you except this responsibility?" He asked, looking down twords his air. A quite and timid "Yes." was heard.
Suddenly the older merman's face went pale once again a he too a deep breath. "Then, by law... I ask if there are any who stand against him as air to my throne?" He asked, looking nervously out at the crowd of people. Suddenly a deep voice came out of the silent crowd. "I object." The stranger from before swam to the front of the crowd, everyone moving quickly to get out of his way, as two mermen followed just behind him.
The man continued, looking up at Ameerah's father a calm smile on his face. "The boy isn't even the proper age of 20 yet, he can't inherit the throne yet." The man with the burn-scar swam up the just beside Asem, as he finished. The man's tail was spotted with splotches of gray on random points. The rest of his tail was red, matching his eyes.
Ameerah's father had a dark look in his eyes. "And you were exiled, you're not wecocme hear." He said in a cold voice. A sound no one in the room was accustomed to, exept for the merman beside Asem. He looked several years younger then the Ameerah's father.
"That dose not change the fact that he is to young." The man's grin grew as he spoke. "And according to the law, if a challenger has enough support behind him, say... Half the kingdom, he can take the throne, with or without royal blood." Asem looked over to the merman next to him concerned. "That's called a mutiny." He said, in reply. The scarred merman looked over at Asem, a frown on his face. Then turned back to the older merman, now just glaring at him, completely unamused by the younger merman beside him.
Looking around, Ameerah could see several of the guard reaching for the swords at there sides, including the one beside her. The guard looked down at the young girl, Ameerah could see a dark glint behind the helmet. Slowly the young mermaid began to back away for him.
Looking up at the Scarred merman, Ameerah could see him holding up two of his fingers, as if preparing to signal someone of something. The guard looked back at the strange merman, seemingly waiting for something.
Suddenly Jefery quickly swam a the scarred merman. "Fethi!!!" He yelled, unsheathing his sword and aiming it at the merman. Just before he made contact the merman moved out of the why, causing Jefery to accidentally dashing past his target, and ending up half way between the stranger and Ameerah's father.
Quickly Jefery turned to see the scarred merman slowly backing away from the small group, still holding his two fingers pointed upwards, and still facing the three, a large grin on his face. Suddenly he threw hi hand down now pointing to the three, the moment he did so the guard next to Ameerah drew his sword as did several of the other guards around the room, each aiming there swords at the three by the thrones.
The merman looked down at the three grinning down at them. "Now, Judas, you will understand what I felt for the last 5 years... alone... and abandoned... And everything RIPED away from you." Ameerah began to back away, fear entering her mind. The guards who had pulled there swords began to come closer to the three at the thrones, aiming there swords at them.
Suddenly Ameerah felt a hand on her shoulder from behind, causing her to quickly tern her head to see who it was. One of the guards stood behind her, her first reaction was to flinch, worried he was with that Fethi guy. The guard put a finger up to his mouth signaling her to keep quiet. The guard gently guided her to one of the doors.
The guard guided Ameerah through the halls twords an exit. "What's happening?" Ameerah asked, holding onto the arm of the guard guiding her through the halls. "The merman with the burned eye... He is an enemy of your father." Ameerah looked up at him worried. "Then why aren't you in there with him?" She asked worry filling her voice.
The guard stoped for a moment looking down at her. "You are my priority. As much as I would love to protect your father and brother to." He said, beginning to swim forward again, gesturing for the girl to follow. The two got to an exit. "Lisen, if I tell you to swim, you do so without question. And do not stop for anything." The guard said calmly, as he began to open the door. The small mermaid noted slowly, looking at the ground. The guard noted back, gently taking her hand.
As soon as the door opened Ameerah gasped in shock, it was utter chaos. When Fethi side half the kingdom, he included he guards. Several of the guards were fighting other guards who had the darker versions of the swords. Merfolk were swimming everywhere trying to escape the commotion.
The guard tightened his grip on Ameerah's hand, and quickly swam out into the chaos, heading in the direction of the city gates. For the most part it was just swim through, every once and a while a merman or mermaid would accidentally bump into them and swim off again. Just before reaching the gates, the guard guiding Ameerah stopped, noticing two guards by the gates. Ameerah could just barely see the Dragon like hilt by there sides.
The guard guiding her slowly continued towards the guards, Ameerah gently pulled him back, causing her guide to stop and look down at her. "They have the weird Dragon swords." She whispered, hoping his hand tightly. "What? What Dragon swords?" He asked, looking back to the guards cautiously. Ameerah pointed to the swords at there sides and back to his, showing the differences in them.
The guard put his hand on his sword ready to pull it. The two guards watched them. Once they noticed Ameerah they each gave a small bow, still watching them carefully. The two guards slowly swam up. "State your business." One said, slowly unsheathing his sword.
The guard by Ameerah gently slipped something in her hand, and quickly released her hand, swimming slightly closer to the two. "I am escorting the young princess to the safe-house." He said, looking to the gate behind the two guards, as if telling them to move. The two guards didn't move an inch.
Ameerah looked down at the small object her guard has given her. It was a small dagger, a dragon's face on the pommel of the hult, the rest of the blade seemed standard. She held the small blade closely out of fear, watching the three talk.
"Allow one of us to take her, after all in sure your needed hear more then anything." One of the guards stated, coming slightly closer to Ameerah. The guard who have Ameerah the dagger, quickly pulled his sword, placing it between the traitor and Ameerah, keeping him a good distance from her. The guard turned to look at the guide, his eyes showing anger.
"I suppose you know then..." He said, pulling his sword up as to use it. The guide quickly slashed the arm of the traitor, and pointed his sword at the other one. " Swim!" The guide yelled, jabbing his head in the detection of the gates. Ameerah quickly began to swim right to the gates. Swimming out she could hear some yelling. "Get her!!!" One of the guards from before shouted, as she kept swimming away from the city gates.
