Something is wrong with my cat.

Over the past few weeks, our cat Simba has been developing odd swelling. It started in his front leg first, which swelled pretty much overnight to at least twice it’s size. Swelling was between the shoulder and his knee. We took him to the vet and he was given a steroid shot and a week of strong antibiotics after the vet guessed it was related to cellulitis. We were told to give it a week and come back if he wasn’t better. It has not gone all the way down, but is much better and seems much less painful.

About a week and a half later, the swelling had gone down considerably, but he developed a 1cm lump on his side, about an inch from the spine. We took him back to the vet to get it looked at. The vet said that was not the injection site, and gave us a spray antibiotic to use. He did not seem to have a diagnosis for us. I asked if it was a tumor and he said “could be.” He did say that it was just in the skin layer and no deeper.

The lump has at least doubled, expanding in diameter but not outward. If anything it may have flattened more. Yesterday, we found he had lost a good chunk of fur off of the site. It is red and slightly gooey like a scab was removed. He doesn’t seem to be licking it too much.

While we were at the vet with another cat, we asked about the lump again. The vet had us schedule an appointment (will be on Friday) and sent us home with some chlorahexadine (90% sure that’s the name) scrubs to clean it in the meantime.

We have a new kitten that he is practically helping raise and it’s possible he’s gotten hurt playing with the kitten, so our assumption was an abscess regarding the lump. Again the vet doesn’t seem to have any idea what it could be. He plans to do some tests on Friday.

My mom and I are barely able to function right now. You’ve probably seen me asking for help previously. We just can’t afford the vet bills this is going to incur. But we want the very best for our boy. So I’m asking for help, if you are in any position to help. Even if you aren’t, a signal boost will be more than I could ask for. Every penny will go toward any vet bills, and any remaining will be used for the mountain of other bills we have.

Vet visit was today. News was not good.

X-Rays revealed two larges masses in Simba’s abdomen. The vet is very concerned about lymphoma. We’ve been referred to a more equipped vet with a very good reputation.

Simba is in good spirits still, and is still young, so we’ve decided to move forward with seeking treatment. Assuming this is lymphoma, it’s going to be expensive. But we aren’t going to give up on him yet.

I’m still waiting on a call to get his appointment scheduled, but we’ll be going in ASAP.

Really desperately trying to find the money to get things moving. If oncology is going to take this long to get us in, he needs something. He’s still alert, still very hungry, he wants to be up and around but he just doesn’t feel good enough to.
