Remember, just because you can run that fast when a tiger is chasing you, doesn't mean you should be expected to run that fast. Or that it's okay for you or anyone else to set a tiger loose on you to get things done faster.
Humans can do incredible things under threat. That does not mean that panic is a good thing for you or your body in the long run.
Swatis through Songs: Intense, Cosmic, Consuming Love
Whenever I'm listening to music and I come across songs where the yearning goes super hard, I just know a Scorpio is behind it. And as such, I thought I'd make a post dedicated to some Swati singer-songwriters and their most intensely romantic lyrics <333
Alex Turner- Vishaka Moon conj Mars, Ketu in Swati
He's the frontman of Arctic Monkeys for those who don't know and has written almost all of their songs. The lyrics are sooo full of yearning!!!
"Not shy of a spark The knife twists at the thought that I should fall short of the mark Frightened by the bite, though it's no harsher than the bark The middle of adventure, such a perfect place to start
I'm going back to 505 If it's a seven hour flight or a forty-five minute drive In my imagination, you're waitin' lyin' on your side With your hands between your thighs
But I crumble completely when you cry It seems like once again you've had to greet me with goodbye I'm always just about to go and spoil the surprise Take my hands off of your eyes too soon"
Phil Collins- Swati Moon
So, take a look at me now Well, there's just an empty space And there's nothin' left here to remind me Just the memory of your face Ooh, take a look at me now Well, there's just an empty space And you comin' back to me is against the odds And that's what I've got to face (from Against All Odds)
Like a river to the sea I will always be with you And if you sail away I will follow you
Give me one more night Give me just one more night Oh, one more night 'Cause I can't wait forever
I know there'll never be a time you'll ever feel the same And I know it's only words But if you change your mind, you know that I'll be here And maybe we both can learn (from One More Night)
Alanis Morisette- Swati Moon
For all that you are I couldn't help it It's all your fault You are the bearer of unconditional things You held your breath and the door for me Thanks for your patience You're the best listener that I've ever met You're my best friend Best friend with benefits What took me so long I've never felt this healthy before I've never wanted something rational (from Head over Feet)
Tove Lo- Swati Sun conj Mercury, Jupiter in Revati atmakaraka, Venus in Vishaka amatyakaraka, Ketu in Uttaraphalguni
"Take a life for me" You know I'd do it instantly In danger of a true romance We are meant to be I'd die for love and loyalty In danger of a true romance
I don't like the real world I don't like the real world It's tough out in the real world Let's go back to our world (from True Romance)
No one dies from love I guess I'll be the first Will you remember us Or are the memories too stained with blood now? (from No one dies from love)
Alsoooo this isn't romantic but kinda depressing but very revealing of the obsessive nature of Swatis and how they spiral after losing loved ones
Pick up daddies at the playground How I spend my daytime Loosen up the frown Make them feel alive Oh, make it fast and greasy I'm numb and way too easy
You're gone and I gotta stay High all the time To keep you off my mind (from Stay High)
Chaka Khan- Swati Rising
Through the fire To the limit, to the wall For a chance to be with you I'd gladly risk it all
Through the fire Through whatever, come what may For a chance at loving you I'd take it all the way Right down to the wire Even through the fire
I know you're afraid of what you feel You still need time to heal And I can help if you'll only let me try You touched me and something in me knew What I could have with you No, I'm not ready to kiss that dream goodbye (from Through the Fire)
You have been mine since time untold Our love is immortal, don't you know Others will come, and they will go But I loved you young, I love you old
Only you have seen, the other side of me Call me naive, I think you will But I loved you then, do you love me still?
Here are the eyes that only see you Here's the mouth that only calls your name, yeah Here is the soul they can not kill I love you now, do you love me still? Ooh, oh yeah (from Love Me Still)
Halsey- Swati Mercury conj Rising, Vishaka stellium ( Venus, Jup, Rahu)
I'll never know If there's danger in confession Or it's memory that presses Like a blade against my throat Another word and I could choke But what's worse?
Tellin' you my feelings Or to die without revealing That you got inside my head And set a fire there instead? Letting all my insecurity Devour me with certainty
That love is just a currency So take my pockets, take me home Take my life, and take my soul Wrap me in a wedding ring You know I swear I'd give you anything (from ya'aburnee)
Bjork- Swati Moon, Vishaka Rising
Sometimes the things I do astound me Mostly whenever you're around me
Lately I seem to walk as though I have wings Bump into things Like someone in love Each time I look at you, I'm limp as a glove And feeling like someone in love
Sometimes the things I do astound me Mostly whenever you're around me (Someone in Love)
Eric Clapton- UBP Sun, Swati Moon
I tried to give you consolation When your old man had let you down Like a fool, I fell in love with you You turned my whole world upside down
Layla You've got me on my knees Layla I'm begging, darling, please Layla Darling, won't you ease my worried mind?
Let's make the best of the situation Before I finally go insane Please don't say we'll never find a way And tell me all my love's in vain (from Layla)
George Harrison- Swati Moon
All I got to do is to love you All I got to be is, be happy All it's got to take is some warmth to make it Blow Away, Blow Away, Blow Away
Sky cleared up, day turned to bright Closing both eyes now the head filled with light Hard to remember what a state I was in Instant amnesia Yang to the Yin (from Blow Away)
My dark sweet lady You really got to me You gave me everything I've really fallen.
You came and helped me through When I'd let go You came from out the blue Never have known what I'd done without you.
My dark sweet lady Your heart so close to mine You shine so heavenly and I love you dearly (from Dark Sweet Lady)
Bette Midler, Swati Moon, Revati Rising
Some say, "Love. It is a river That drowns the tender reed" Some say, "Love. It is a razor That leaves your soul to bleed" Some say, "Love. It is a hunger An endless aching need" I say, "Love. It is a flower And you its only seed"
It's the heart afraid of breaking That never learns to dance It's the dream afraid of waking That never takes the chance It's the one who won't be taken Who cannot seem to give And the soul afraid of dyin' That never learns to live (from The Rose)
I can only attach 10 videos per post so I'll make a part 2 hehe<3
😪🤣
One of these is literally my favorite song and next tattoo
sometimes i talk about how awful it was to feel trapped by my daily makeup routine and how i couldn’t leave the house without putting on a full face and it played a major role in the misery of my high school experience because i had to spend so much extra time getting ready in the mornings and that followed me into my early 20s as well and it was hell and it was so incredibly liberating to go through the slow and uncomfortable but ultimately essential process of getting my bare face back and having makeup be an optional accessory instead of a mandatory uniform. and the response always tends to be ah yes of course, because of your trans and your masculine. and it’s like aha so close! actually! I think if I ended up being a feminine cis woman I also still would not deserve even a second of that shit! I think trans women and nonbinary people and every human alive should have the option to leave the house without a single cosmetic product ever touching their face! but thanks for playing!
was doing a first aid course and it kept talking about how when applying first aid to a child you have to ask the PARENT for consent and how the child's consent is not enough unless you cannot reach the parent. and then immediately after there was a unit on shaken baby syndrome, and then mentioned abuse as a common source of children getting injured. and they didn't see the irony there. i later asked the instructor what to do about parental consent if the medical emergency was from the parent abusing the child and she was like "you still need to obtain parental consent. you can report the abuse though" not even acknowledging how fucked the whole system is. i hate it here. youth rights now
I. The Sacred Mystic: Vesta conjunct Neptune. Devotion isn't something they do, it's something they are. They give themselves completely to whatever they consider sacred whether it is a person, craft, belief, or an idea. The giving itself is the point, it is not about what they receive in return. Others often mistake their solitude for loneliness, when the truth is they are the least lonely person in the room. There is a transcendent quality to their focus, as if their inner self quietly steps aside to let something larger move through them. They often realize they are only truly at peace when they have something worth surrendering to.
II. The Anointed Mystic: Venus conjunct Chiron. The quality of their love tends to manifest in a way the world tends to punish and then, later, canonize. Early in life, they learn their affection is treated as "too much, too intense" or somehow inappropriate, and they carry that verdict long after the people who issued it are gone. What they do with it is the story of the way in which they love: their tenderness becomes deliberate, chosen, offered rather than spilled or freely given. They have an uncanny gift when it comes to siting with other people's shame without flinching or judging, because they recognize it. Being loved openly and without condition is the hardest thing they will ever have to learn to accept.
III. The Veiled Mystic: Venus in the 12H. Their romantic life happens largely behind a curtain. They fall in love with people only to never tell them. They carry connections and bonds that exist mostly in their inner world, and their most significant relationships are often invisible to everyone watching. There can be a self-erasing streak to their affection where they would rather adore someone or something quietly rather than risk being witnessed wanting. When they do let someone in, the intimacy can be disorienting in its depth because it's been building somewhere unseen the entire time. Their work is learning that a love that is never spoken can not always survive and they must be unafraid to speak it.
IV. The Desert Mystic: Vesta in the 12H. Solitude is their deepest practice, not something they view as punishment. They need long stretches of withdrawal to hear their minds and body, and they will often disappear into solitude without giving much explanation to the outside world. What they discover in that silence is genuinely valuable, which is why people keep coming back to them after each retreat, sensing they've returned with something precious. There is a hermit/monk streak to them: they truly do not need much, and they can be suspicious of anything that requires them to perform contentment. Their cave years are never wasted years.
V. The Silent Mystic: Mercury conjunct Neptune. Their thoughts do not arrive as sentences or anything linguistic. They often come to them as atmospheres, images, and a deep knowing without a traceable source. Oftentimes, they can't explain how they reached a conclusion, but those around them know that they are rarely wrong about it. Language is something that can feel like a downgrade to them, so they either go quiet or become unusually good at using metaphors. They can sometimes seem as if they speak in riddles or poetry as well. They tend to absorb the unspoken mood of every room they enter, which makes them exhausting company for liars. Their intelligence is very real; it just doesn't show up on paper.
VI. The Witness: Sun, Moon, and Neptune in the 12H. Rare, and deeply heavy to carry. Identity, emotion, and dissolution occupy the same hidden room, so they experience themselves as somewhat porous or foggy. They feel always slightly merged with whatever or whoever they are near. People find them hard to describe but also impossible to forget. Many of them tend to live at least half their lives internally, in a landscape nobody else visits, and their outer life can sometimes feel like a costume. Their entire path is learning where they end and everything else begins, and choosing to come back into their body anyway.

"It's not complicated, it's genocide"
Sticker spotted in Penrith, NSW
“If you deny any affinity with another person or kind of person, if you declare it to be wholly different from yourself—as men have done to women, and class has done to class, and nation has done to nation—you may hate it, or deify it, but in either case you have denied its spiritual equality, and its human reality. You have made it into a thing, to which the only possible relationship is a power relationship. And thus you have fatally impoverished your own reality.” Ursula K. Le Guin "American SF and The Other" in Science-Fiction Studies 7, 1975.

i really need to shake some people and say “being passive in every situation does not mean you are not making active choices and it does not absolve you from harming others. consistently choosing to do nothing in every situation and believing that you couldn’t have possibly been the problem because you chose inaction and not a more agressive approach can in fact also be harmful.” because this keeps happening and its driving me nuts
TLDR: Not making a choice is actually a choice. Inaction can, in fact be harmful.
im so sorry but you have to be reading and thinking abstractly and symbolically and allegorically and metaphorically. like at this point is not even funny anymore. you have to. this is like the biggest failure of media and general literacy i see on a daily basis. its killing us.
its not just that the curtains are blue because they represent depression. the curtains are blue because they represent depression AND they are blue depending on the time period the curtains exist in because may they reference the history of lapis lazuli mined in afghanistan shipped to europe in the middle ages and as such the curtains would represent immense wealth and exclusivity OR they could be a reference to the virgin mary's oft depicted blue robes and in that case the curtains could be representing virginity and purity and if they were to get ripped or damaged or fall down at any point that would be a metaphor for religious and spiritual corruption or even sexual violence depending. depending on the color blue and the rest of the story the blue curtains could be representative of the uniforms worn by german soldiers in world war I and as such would be a metaphor and even foreshadowing for an incoming loss and impending financial ruin which would play nicely against the earlier metaphor of blue curtains presently symbolizing wealth but also foreshadowing the loss of it. blue curtains could also be a reference to blue being the color representing revolution throughout the 18th century as it was prominently worn by major figures in both the french and american revolutions. blue curtains could also represent globalization and global peacekeeping because of the use of blue for the flags and symbols of 20th century intergovernmental organizations like UNESCO, NATO and the council of europe. and these are all just shit i made up from scrolling through wikipedia's "blue in culture" page for 10 minutes. and yes they are bullshit but ALL METAPHORS ARE BULLSHIT THATS THE POINT!!!!
it is the art of making symbolic connections where at first glance there are none. it is not about which of the above metaphors is the "correct" one because this isnt science and there is no correct answer. its about whether or not your chosen metaphor is supported by the rest of the text and how well you can argue for its inclusion as a valid, grounded, and well-supported take. and its worth noting that all of my examples were heavily based in western culture and history and that color has entirely different symbolic meaning in other parts of the world which means there are infinitely more things it could represent depending on the author and the audience. whether or not the author intended any symbolism at all is irrelevant because the author chose blue for a reason whether subconscious or unconscious and thus the blue-ness has meaning because blue has meaning in our world. the curtains could be blue just because the author just did a star wars rewatch the week before and the blue versus red lightsabers representing jedi versus sith was top of mind. you may think that meaningless but actually it only provides more fuel for our metaphorical thinking. because if we know that jedi are the good guys and sith are the bad guys then blue is representative of moral goodness and red is representative of evil and the fact that blue came to the mind of the author in this moment for this character's home decor tells us something about how the author conceives of the character's morality, and how the culture in which the author exists conceives of morality symbolically through color.
if it was purposeful by the author and the character is actually evil then the use of blue for an evil character becomes a commentary on our arbitrary associations of color and morality and how they are liable to mislead us once the author reveals they misled us using metaphorical color association. either works. BOTH work. DO YOU SEE!?!?!?!?!?!? THE CURTAINS ARE BLUE FOR EVERY REASON YOU COULD POSSIBLY IMAGINE. if you are refusing to believe the curtains have a reason to be blue you are literally taking yourself out of the game. you are choosing to sit on the sidelines. literary analysis is a series of taking shots and some of your shots might miss but if you line them up right with the rest of the court you'll get a slam dunk. if you decide the curtains are just blue because theyre just blue you have benched yourself. you might be scared to shoot hoops because you never learned how and are afraid to look silly but thats okay. hold my hand. just do your best and you will have more fun and gain more insight and have a deeper more engaging experience of storytelling if you just try your best to start taking shots. please. THROW THE BALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <- btw that's a metaphor
Please please please take the time to read and share this of you grew up in a time when literacy was valued and are now struggling to explain to newer generations how much they are missing due to what now passes for literacy.
Intentional de-literacy through No Child Left Behind and similar miseducation initiatives robbed young readers of their access to critical culture AND their ability to create literature and all its kin that is equally subtle AND subversive enough to survive and warn for generations.
I’ve been trying to explain why nuanced reading of literature (and its rainbow of offshoots) is always the point of literacy to my kiddos for years. This post is one of the best explanations I’ve come across.
Lastly, this intentional miseducation of the masses is class warfare in action. We’re only one or two generations into NCLB, defunding colleges and universities, and shifting the cost burden of higher education to students so liberal arts became “a waste of time” instead of the caretakers of cultural legacy.
It’s only a conspiracy if they’re not actually out to get you.

If age and disability teach us anything, it is that investing in beauty will never set us free. Beauty has always been hurled as a weapon. It has always taken the form of an exclusive club; and supposed protection against violence, isolation and pain, but this is a myth. It is not true, even for those accepted in to the club.
Mia Mingus, from "Moving Toward the Ugly: A Politic Beyond Desirability"
It's a lot healthier to go for a daily walk than to sign up for a gym membership you won't be using because you hate that kind of exercise. It's a lot healthier to eat a frozen meal than to skip a meal because you were too tired to cook something healthy. It's a lot healthier to take a quick shower than to procrastinate an elaborate routine for days. Don't aim so high that you won't be hitting anything!
this is actually really helpful and affirming thanks
*in tears* Thanks kitty, I needed this...
