I have to explain why they are in that position ejem
To begin with ,in my headcanon, they are very similar to what the series has shown us so far (that is, practically nothing. What angers me)
Mihawk's personality is severe and realistic. Serious when necessary, but the surprising and good thing about this character is that, despite the fact that we see him with an immutable expression most of the time, Mihawk does not say no to a sincere smile if he really feels it as such. He is a direct and sincere man, as well as honorable (I believe this because he refused to fight Shanks for having one less arm)
Perona is carefree, very playful and likes cute things. His character is very temperamental and does not say no to a fight if she sees it necessary (please, she is living with one of the men with the highest level of power of all one piece ... and still she sends him to hell many times xD )
The case, the idea of my heahcanon was to give more humanity to Mihawk especially considering Dracula's novel (or am I getting involved with castlevania?) who falls in love with a human woman and she gives him that human touch that he lacked of.
so I got down to work and I started to think about them ... honestly speaking, I don't consider myself especially creative or good at developing anything but I liked to think that after spending so much time together and fighting together, they would develop very narrow feelings from each other but they will never verbalized it directly because THIS IS A SERIE MADE BY ODA AND ODA DOESN'T LIKE TO MAKE COUPLES SO F*CK MY HEADCANON.
But to the point, what could make Mihawk react? Mihawk, as I said before, is the most powerful of the pirates after Shanks (or the same, we don't know) so he will simply think that he will never lose anything, because he is the strongest ... but what if he really lost something .. . something important? the life of someone who cares? I thought about the possibility that it was a parallel with Zoron because, after all, zoro not only wants to be stronger to beat Mihawk, but also to protect his nakamas.
So there you have the explanation of why Perona is in a bed with bandages and pajamas because Perona has been injured, Mihawk could not help her and he has blamed himself for that; carrying a lot of emotional and psychological weight on his shoulders the time she was unconscious ...
I imagine that Mihawk was not always strong, he had to win that position somehow, I say, and I think that in his youth he did have important people that he wanted to protect ... ( we hardly know anything about him, damn it) so, the fact that Perona had been injured, while she was under his protection, perhaps not only would it not feel good to him but would also open closed wounds or that he would remember again the importance of being strong. Not by power, if not to protect what you want and love.
Aaaand that would be the second reason why he is being hugged by Perona ... because he has collapsed from the mental exhaustion that all that situation has caused him and he is made to cry from the happiness of seeing that he still has an opportunity to take care of her again.
And about his covered face ... is because I think he would hide his expression. If I think about it from the point of view of someone that have alot of pride (probably) then i would hide myself and i would be very embarraset from my weaknesses.
Mihawk does not express much, express something as strong as crying or worry ... I do not know, I still did not think that he can show that kind of expressions without problems.
