“Mal de Amores is a performance piece that re-contextualizes the Salvadoran heartache ritual of the same name. I constructed a crossroads from soil. I then used a calling card to El Salvador to phone my sister in Soyapango, El Salvador whom I haven’t seen in seventeen years due to being separated by a Civil War and the refugee situation created by it. The call lasted the length of the calling card. The conversation was improvised int order to capture a genuine view of our relationship to each other. The phone was amplified so the conversation will be well heard in the space. I laid the phone and the BOSS calling card in the middle of the crossroads and walked out of the room.”
