I haven't written a single blog post for over a year now, partly because I'm lazy, but mostly have to do with my unwillingness to write about my very much recurrent daily routine. However, every once in a while, something in your life that is not meant to be let it pass by without written it down.
"Omakase" is a Japanese phrase carries the meaning "I'll leave it to you". When you walk into a Japanese restaurant and order Omakase, you entrusted the chef's capable hands to pick the ingredients, prepare the food, and arrange the order of consumption on your behalf according to their ideas of what would make a tasty meal. It may, at first, sound like the whole idea of Omakase is for folks who are clueless about what to order, it ain't. There're à la carte Japanese restaurants everywhere, only the top-notch ones offer Omakase in the menu. Omakase is a multi-course dining experience, every course is a surprise with quality you can taste.
Several months back, me and sutina tried out the Omakase dinner for the first time at Kiss Seafood, it was memorable and enjoyable. Tonight, we tried out Kappa Japanese restaurant at San Francisco Japan town, and woah, this place raises the bar of Omakase to a whole new level.
Mr and Mrs chef, they run the restaurant, no other employees.
whole lots of fresh ingredients.
2nd course, crab meat with cucumber.
3rd course - rare Tuna with Japanese Mustard and some veggies.
4th course - Tomago, fried corn, shrimp, tofu, pumkin, yellow tails, etc...
5th course - Sashimi and sea urchin.
6th course - Seared Salmon, Unagi, and scallop.
Every dish, every bite of the food is masterfully crafted to appeal the diner not only in terms of taste, but in visual as well. Omakase at Kappa is a experience that you must actually experience in order to tell how delight it is. The only downside is that, while their foods will blow you away, the bill you get at the end can make your jaw drop to the floor.
