Hey there! I've been following you for a while now and it's like finding an Easter egg whenever you post. However I don't consider myself a writer and I haven't yet used your prompts to write. I love reading them and imagining them but I just don't have it in me to skillfully write it down. When I was younger, I used to try but I would cringe myself with how broken my language sounds and how immature the flow of words are.
These days, I feel like I can't even try. I don't even attempt to write a journal entry just describing my day. The idea of using words to create your own worlds and its own characters thrills me. Infact I feel like I live more in my head as characters I've created than as myself. It's not healthy. But I can't translate it into a productive or creative outlet instead. I want to excel at academic writing as well. But whenever I think of writing, or whenever I'm sitting in front of an empty doc or empty diary, I just can't produce sentences.
It affects even while I speak. I rush through words because I rush through thoughts. I am in a constant anxious state and i can't phrase things the way I would want... the way the other person would comprehend. It's a weird mashed set of words that I'll inevitably have to repeat because they have no idea what I'm trying to say. I just really really want to express myself well and be creative. But I am built in black and white with no creative gene. Is it possible to even improve ???
Hi Dear! First of all, the fact that you wrote this message the way you did already proves you can express yourself. like this was clear and vivid and i understood exactly how you feel. that’s WRITING. 🫶🏻
The “no creative gene” thing is not real. Creativity is not something you either have or don’t, it’s something you build by doing it badly for a long time first. Everyone’s early stuff is cringe. That’s not a sign you can’t write, that’s just what the beginning looks like for literally everyone.
The blank page thing sounds less like a writing problem and more like anxiety, and those need different solutions. one thing that actually helps is removing the pressure of it being writing at all. Just open a note and describe one thing you saw today. not well. just factually. no one will read it. The goal is just to get your brain used to converting thoughts into words without panicking about whether they’re good.
and the rushing through thoughts while speaking… that’s so common with anxiety and it bleeds into writing too. slowing down on the page is actually easier than in conversation because you can stop, delete, try again. that’s the advantage you have that you’re not using yet.
You’re not built in black and white. You have characters living in your head. That’s not nothing, that’s actually everything, you just haven’t found the way out yet
