President Barack Obama began last year by making strong arguments for why we must #ActOnClimate during his Inauguration and State of the Union speeches. Good news for our Arctic: Just last week, Shell received another setback in their quest to drill oil in the pristine Arctic Ocean when a federal appeals court ruled that the company wrongly received drilling permits in 2008. Learn more: http://bit.ly/1f6AleM 

Over the weekend, a TransCanada natural gas pipeline exploded shooting flames 300 meters into the air and leaving thousands without heat in sub-zero temperatures. This is the SAME company that’s trying to run the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline through America’s heartland. Illinois Congressman Bill Enyart pledged to support action on climate change under the Clean Air Act during the 2012 campaign in order to get our support. Right now, American taxpayers are footing the bill to clean up many of the most contaminated waste sites. Thankfully, Congressman Earl Blumenauer introduced legislation to make sure oil and chemical companies that generate hazardous waste are responsible for cleaning up these sites. The results are in—2013 was tied for the 4th hottest year ever recorded. This is the 37th consecutive year that global temperatures were above average, bringing with it dangerous and extreme weather.  (Thanks to 350.org for the image)

Recipe for climate change disaster: 2013 was the driest year on record in California. On Friday, the Governor declared a drought emergency in the state. Now there’s a rare winter wildfire raging outside of L.A. We must address climate change before these types of disasters get worse.
