I honestly am not sure whether they were engaged or not , I mean TTPD mentions invitations not being send out and the line about the alter doesn’t rule out them getting engaged but that they never made it to the alter .

I really think they were engaged, so much so that on ttpd she makes it very clear to me that they were, and both the email story and the engagement story seem completely true in many ways.
