i hate driving. here are the laws! if you break them there will be consequences! except youre also expected to break the law just a little bit. people will get mad at you if you dont. you dont have right of way but the person who does is waving you forward for some reason. here's the speed limit! it's not the speed limit, the actual speed limit is that plus ~5-10. the light is green but you're in the turning lane. can you go? should you have gone just then? the person behind you is honking at you. there's a weird noise coming from your engine; if you try to do the right thing and get it checked out, will you get scammed? you are driving a 1-2 ton metal machine rocketing at speeds unknown to humankind for most of history. around a million people die in car accidents every year; that's about one person every thirty seconds. if you take that seriously and try to drive safely then people get mad at you.

you have to be able to defend people who are receiving unjust treatment even if they annoy you even if you personally find them extremely annoying you still have to be able to stand up and say "well thats fucked up"

I’ve probably said this before but having every good and service turn into a subscription model is one of the worst new developments of our era of capitalism. Like yeah, shit sucked before but it didn’t suck for 19.99 a month indefinitely. This some new shit.

Reblogging this again bc I can’t stop angrily thinking about how there should be laws in place so that when a company sells a product or service there is either a cap on how many years they can keep charging subscription for it or they have to name a price they decide the product is worth and either the buyer pays that upfront or by those weekly/monthly instalments. At least put laws in place on what legally qualifies as a subscription service.

Technofeudalism by Yanis Varoufakis talks about this exact phenomenon. The subscription hell we live in is basically modern day feudalism where we all have to pay “rent” to access the programs, platforms, and services necessary to engage with modern life. And the people who own those services and primarily profit off of our rent rather than any actual innovation are the true feudal lords of our day. And they will do anything to protect that system and the power it affords them. I highly recommend the read for anyone seeking an understanding of just how bad the phenomenon is for the entire globe.
