It seems like the older I get, the more irrationally angry casual censorship makes me. And it isn't just the "unalive" "grape" alleged filter-dodging vernacular, but the way normal words will be peppered with asterisks, or screenshots will have words like "gay" "hell" "fuck" etc either partially or entirely blurred. Who is this helping? What is the purpose of it, except to reinforce shame and elevate a flimsy perception of purity and safety, however those things manifest. It's so tiresome and I'm sick of it.

We landed in New York Thursday morning and left Monday morning. And what did we arrive to? A massive water leak at my in-laws place that will require replacing 100 sq ft of flooring! And possibly more! And we couldnāt use the a/c because thatās where the leak was coming from!!! In August!!!!
Iām never making such a short trip with such long flights ever again. At least Toddler enjoyed the trip because she didnāt have to deal with building management and the insurance company.
Thank you, tumblr, for reminding me that this blog is 15 (!!!) years old. Iām rarely here anymore for various reasons, but itās fun to stop by once in a while to check in.
Also if anyone has recommendations for NYC things to do, Iām all ears. Havenāt been since 2019, and Iāll be staying UES for a wedding.
Got Botox, got the job, and celebrated by eating Spanish cheese and bread from Costco. Also enjoyed doing absolutely nothing this holiday weekend since weāre not religious and Toddler has no concept of the Easter bunny. She did do an egg hunt today at daycare, which required some assistance from her teacher.

Been a bit since my last post, but all is well here in the middle of the ocean. Baby is now a walking, opinionated Toddler (so much dramatic pointing and grunting!) who is simultaneously the best thing Iāve ever done and the most exhausting thing in the universe. She stopped breastfeeding last week, so we made it my goal of one year and then some. Yay!
Iām more than halfway done with my job and applying for others now, which is nerve-racking given the state of the world currently. Had an interview last week, and weāll see if they want me. If they donāt, I have a couple of other leads. My current boss has also hinted that heād keep me for another year if I donāt find anything out there, so weāll see. I donāt feel much like a lawyer in the current gig (and the pay reflects that), but itās nice to leave work at work and not feel chained to my email inbox.
So thatās the update. Excited to get Botox and lasers and all sorts of things now that Iām no longer pregnant or breastfeeding.
Also very wild that 7 years ago today Husband and I were in Hawaii finding our first place, and weāve been here ever since! It doesnāt feel like itās been that long at all. And now Iām a lawyer and weāre married and have a baby!
2024 was generally a pretty good year! 2025 isnāt off to the best start as Iāve had bronchitis and Baby did not do well on her flights to and from Honolulu to Atlanta, but we got her passport in the mail and plan on going on more trips this summer. And probably another one in December! It was fun traveling for Christmas and new years, so weāre thinking Japan for next Christmas.
Now on to finding a job for September 2025, as mine expires at the end of August.
Life is mostly fine, minus the baby getting Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease and missing a week of daycare right after thanksgiving. Sheās a great eater, learning to stand on her own now, snd has almost three teeth. Weāre going to the east coast (Georgia and Florida) for Christmas and nye so weāll see how well she does with those flights.

Itās my first time being fully solo with Baby since husband is out of town for a conference until Saturday, and guess what - she gets a stomach bug at daycare! And canāt go back until Friday! And I canāt work from home at my new job! And Iām supposed to have an assignment due Friday!
So now I have to take tomorrow off to make sure Baby doesnāt puke anymore. And somehow figure out when Iām going to finish this thing for my judge that I said Iād have done by Friday. Great. I love her, but I hate this.
This is apparently a hotter take than I thought but: hating on lawyers as a profession, calling them inherently dishonest etc. is politically reactionary. It discourages defendants from seeking legal counsel, puts forth the idea that itās inherently suspicious to insist on seeing a lawyer before you answer police questioning (your constitutional right!) etc. which ultimately just benefits the state in making it easier for them to convict you. This is one of those things that āprogressivesā who were raised conservative often donāt realize is one of the parts of their parentsā worldview they should question more, but they should. Not only are lawyers not The Problem with āour system,ā but having someone who is educated in the law whose job is to represent your interests in court ā getting one regardless of your ability to pay, even! ā is in fact one of the best parts of it.
I hate how all the crime shows do this as well. "Urgh, lawyers are the worst", "I hate lawyers", "People are dying and our witness is wasting time with a lawyer." It's copaganda! Fuck that. You have a right to a lawyer for a reason, use your rights!
Also in the same realm: "People sue for everything now!" or any similar criticism of "ridiculous" jury verdicts in civil cases. Tort reform is a conservative ploy to make sure major corporations don't have to see any actual consequences when they do shit like pollute your groundwater, give an entire community cancer, or burn a woman so bad she has third degree burns requiring skin grafts all so they could sell more coffee.
Baby is six months old, and has been in daycare for one month now. In that month she has had 3 fevers, likely got Covid (Husband tested positive for it yesterday!), and gone through literally 160 diapers. I hate it! But I also do not want to stay home with her and neither does my husband. We both genuinely enjoy our jobs and frankly we need to be a two salary household to afford Honolulu.
I start a new job tomorrow and hope that I donāt get sick like everyone else in my family. Iām working as a law clerk for a judge for the next year, so taking a break from actually practicing law. But Iāll still be keeping my law license active anyways because Iām applying for jobs for fall 2025 soon, and those jobs may require an active license.
Sick baby and sick husband is a terrible way to spend the weekend before a new gig. 0/10 do no recommend.
Baby has been in daycare for six (6) days and she already came down with her first sickness. Oh joy.
Itās either a bad cold or mild COVID, but at her age theyāre treated the same so theyāre not testing her. Weāre monitoring her fever and hoping her congestion clears up soon. Thankfully sheās still able to eat and sleep well, sheās just extra clingy and a little fussier than normal.
We all survived day 1 back in the office!
Baby drank from bottles throughout the day, Husband did a great job cleaning and taking care of her, and I got caught up on everything I missed in the last four months at work.
Someā¦questionable rulings happened while I was gone that weāre trying to undue, but beyond that Iām not in too much shit work-wise. One of my cases is going to settle, one of my cases is going to go the (state) Supreme Court, and I have a new case in the works. Fun!
Baby gets another round of vaccines tomorrow, so weāll see how she handles that and me having to go into the office. Hopefully sheās just sleepy like she was last time.

Iām back to work on Monday, and feeling both excited to not have a baby attached to me all day (I can wear my hair down again!) but also sad that Iāll only see her for a few hours now. And not looking forward to pumping at work at all. Baby is also not really drinking from a bottle (meaning sheāll do less than an ounce after 10 minutes of trying to feed her), so Husband might have to bring her by the office to feed her from time to time if she refuses to drink from her bottle with him.
Also still dealing with some after effects of pushing for 3 hours that might require surgery to fix if pelvic floor therapy canāt. Lovely! But at least my old clothes all fit now. Picking up a 17 lb almost 4 month over and over again old is exhausting!
