I remember seeing a similar thing about explaining queer acceptance to conservatives, as in you need to bring things down to their level/put it into terms they’ll understand, but basically if somebody already has a set beliefs that “theirans are weird freaks who do xyz” it’s going to be much more effective to tell they they’re just being an asshole to somebody having fun than it is to tell them how they’re disrespecting their identity. Like I remember taking my lil brother (9) to a trampoline park and his set of friends had already gotten him into seeing therians as weird, so when we saw a few teenagers with masks on, it was SIGNIFICANTLY more appropriate to tell him “they’re just kids like having fun doing different things” as opposed to trying to get him to accept the fact that they’re likely nonhuman. One answer is going to make him go “different kids just play different ok I guess” where as the other is going to further push the idea in his head that they’re not like him and he doesn’t have to be respectful
