this whole week has been super busy so my near-constant horse shift basically went away the whole time (unless i was swimming laps in the pool). it’s the end of the day friday and i’m starting to feel a little more horsey already!
i noticed somewhat of a trend of radio collar ids for wild canines so i looked into it. But since they are not as popular for wild horses i propose something else: Freeze Brands
They are used by the american BLM (Bureau of Land Management) and are actually an 8-digit ID;
The last three digits narrow the location even more down. A pdf with a lot of those "herd codes" can be found here:
Obviously this isn't a perfect solution, but i really liked the idea and wanted to share my take on it.
Since i am not american but my country doesn't really have any actually wild horses (just some in nature reserves so there is no real need for monitoring) i adapted it a bit:
I am from Germany(Deutschland-> D), so i will use a box instead of the first symbol, because it resembles a D.
I'm born in 2006 so the next two are 06.
And because i wanted something similar to the american system i just took the digits corresponding to the abbreviation of my state.
So i ended at: D06 181216
I was ready to tweak it a bit but i absolutely love it. I don't even know why it just has a great sound.
horse brands don't have to be numbers either! and theyre not just for wild horses! ranchers brand their horses all the time!
i think something cool that us domestic horses could do is create a symbol for themselves! heres some info about what different placements and common symbols mean from the American Quarter Horse Association.
there is also the lip tattoo system used commonly in Thoroughbreds but also other breeds!

today i horse-paddled laps around the edge of my pool and pretended it was one of those horse pools! it was so species affirming and euphoric!!! i can’t wait to do it again!!!
I know this has been said before but a lot of you are pissing me off so I'm going to say it again.
Being alterhuman does not mean you have some ~special ability~ to interact with wild animals.
DO NOT go touching/chasing/ generally messing with wildlife. You aren't special and you could harm those animals, or be harmed by them. Even small things like bugs can kill you. You aren't immune to rabies.
If you scare wild animals by chasing them for species euphoria or whatever, you can genuinly kill them. Birders have a term for when it happens to birds, its called a Dread Flight. When you unnecessarily scare a wild animal, you are causing it to waste energy it needs to survive. Wildlife can't afford to waste energy. You're enjoyment is NEVER worth disturbing wildlife.
You do not have the training to rescue wild animals just because you're alterhuman. If you don't have the actual training to resue wildlife and you genuinely find an animal in need of help, CALL A FUCKING WILDLIFE REHABILITATION CENTER!!!! It isn't that hard to find the number for your local center and they'll tell you what to do, if anything, and help you if necessary.
I'm so sick of seeing alterhumans online think they can interact with wildife willy nilly just because they're alterhuman. Please fucking stop.
I’m going to use a personal example that’s not in context to wildlife but still in context to how folks treat theriform animals. It’s also specific to animals in the alterhuman community because I mainly see this with other animals, not so much nonhumans in general. Nonetheless, I hope it’ll put something into perspective.
I am a horse. I’ve ridden other horses before, albeit as a guest at a ranch within my area. For the times I’ve visited my kind and interacted with them, I’ve done so under clear instruction from those who regularly take care of them, train them and work with them.
At no point have I ever gone out of my way to interact with my kind under the assumption that I’m engaging with them from one species member to another. Nor have I engaged with them under the assumption that— because I too am a horse— I know what I’m doing. This is because I understand mindfulness is of utmost importance. Riding is a privilege, not a right. So is engaging with your local wildlife. Your behavior makes all the difference, and those consequences are often irreversible. Besides, OP already listed some pretty good reasons on why this matters.
I know folks like to get up close and personal with animals. Usually, it’s to pet them, take pictures or act out to get a reaction out of them if they feel emboldened enough. In my case, they won’t hesitate to do so without the animals, the trail boss or any other staff who work with these animals in mind, knowing damn well they don’t know these animals or their behaviors. Sometimes, these folks turn out okay but get a scolding. Sometimes, they go into full Karen Mode because the staff did their job by addressing their guests’ behavior. I’ve seen group members get kicked out because they had the bright idea of trying to sneak into the stables nearby. These are individual cases from the ranch near me and the trail rides I’ve been on.
Back when I went on trail rides, I didn’t make any sudden or overly touchy movements while being paired up with a horse. I’d also watch my volume once I was in proximity with my riding companion. Yes, I’m an animal like them but I’m still responsible for my own behavior. Inappropriate behavior could bring immense distress or harm to the horse and even myself. The chances of an accident happening is never a guaranteed zero. Moreover, other horses aren’t going to assume I’m socializing with them as another horse. They’re going to assume I’m posing some kind of a threat to them or refusing to back off and act accordingly, which is something that many folks— in AND outside of this community— need to keep in mind. Entitlement to an animal’s space or existence is an issue that a lot of folks have, even if that’s not your intention! To you, it may not come off as entitlement because you’re doing something that brings you some kind of euphoria. Even so, it doesn’t change the fact that you’re using another animal’s existence as an excuse to gratify yourself. That’s not okay.
I understand wanting to express your animality. I understand wanting to be recognized among your kind or among other animals in general. I get it, but you cannot jeopardize the wellbeing of your local wildlife and any other animals for your validation.
Overfamiliarity doesn’t just happen between humans. It can happen between you and a theriform animal simply because you too are an animal and feel like that’s enough of a reason to act the way you do around them. Reconsider the next time you see that squirrel on the sidewalk or bird on a tree branch. Your actions don’t exist in a vacuum.

The fact there isnt alot of solarpunk/ecopunk is concerning, instead i see alterhumans who buy from shein or temu, or any other fast fashion brand and use chatgpt, any type of ai etc
They claim to care about their kintypes but then support the same corporations who wants their kintypes dead
Like i see no punk alterhumans??? Wherez the DIY??? Wheres the anti ai???
thinking about how much easier it would be to deal with hot weather in a theriform animal body… i wouldn’t have clothes to trap heat against my skin and rub uncomfortably on me. sweating would be perceived as a natural process instead of something to be self conscious about. i wouldn’t need to worry about showering or changing outfits, only conserving energy and finding water and shade. i could roll in a cooling mud puddle and not even have to put on a bathing suit or rinse myself after. the simplicity and immediacy of self care as an animal would be so freeing.
American alterhumans, how do we feel about July 4 fireworks? Personally I am not now that I live in a state where anyone can buy fireworks, and therefore my neighborhood has a bunch of idiots lighting shit in the streets. My hearing and nerves will be horrible this weekend and I won’t be able to fly away, swim to deeper waters, or scurry deep into the forest.
i also deeply hate fireworks. i get spooked so bad! the loud noise hurts my ears very much. sending much love to you and other american alterhumans whose instincts/heightened senses make fireworks painful and scary. 🫂 <3
I love being a grown ass adult and a therian. I love being nearly 30 and otherkin. I love being successful in my adult life and alterhuman.
Nonhuman experiences aren't something you grow out of. They aren't an indicator of an unfulfilled or boring life- they're just part of the diverse spectrum of it.

Coursers, ridden into battle by knights in the Middle Ages. Pegasus, birthed from Medusa's blood and reared by Bellerophon in order to slay the Chimera. Agro, galloping across the Forbidden Lands as Wander pursues the colossi of fictitious legends.
What comes to mind when you think of a noble steed?
Typically, a noble steed is the mount of a heroic figure. Regardless if they have a name of their own or not, the purpose of this animal is straightforward: to aid their rider in their quests as a swift, hardy and trusty companion.
So how does one translate such a role into a personal lifestyle? How does one embody a noble steed?
I've been asking myself the same thing over and over as I find ways to express myself as an equine. If there's anything definitive about my equinehood, it's the intrinsicality of fulfilling a role. I see this in my role as a draft horse, belonging to two breeds each created with the purpose of assisting humans with their agricultural work. I also see this in my role as a pegasusmon, evolving with the purpose of warding off evil entities through the element of Hope and the attribute of Holiness. Then, we have the most archetypal of my experiences: my choice to be Epona. I won't get into the messy details of why I've chosen this experience over the one already have (as Zelda) in parallel to this life, ultimately forsaking the latter in favor of the former. Just know that starting out as a horse of humble beginnings and later becoming in service to a beloved hero is as noble as it gets for a steed like myself.
That said, simply having these experiences isn't enough in my opinion. I must emulate the drive of a noble steed in my daily life as well. At first glance, I thought it'd be difficult to fulfill this role when I'm perceived as entirely and exclusively human by those around me. However, I learned along the way that it's less about the literal perception that one receives from others and more about the personal perception one holds. It's something that slipped my mind as an archetroper, given the hustle and bustle of life.
"Noble" is subjective, I believe. If I only stuck to the fantastical and/or medieval-esque sense of "noble", then I'd find myself at a dead end. There's little to no outlets that I could publicly partake in to express the role I intend to embody. There's renaissance fairs, yes, but not only do I lack the means of attending one as of now, I'm not sure what the gauge is for nonhuman expression at these sorts of gatherings. That's why, for the sake of personal accessibility, I opt to expand the ways in which a steed can be "noble".
Ignoring the high-brow contexts of the term, noble also refers to something that exhibits honorable principles or qualities, usually in a selfless manner. This could apply to feats of historic or mythic renown, such as the examples I gave at the beginning. However, this concept of what is noble could apply to mundane actions as well. We live in a world full of opportunities where one can give back to those around them, and that’s where the makings of noble character lie.
Nowadays, I try to take more initiative with physically daunting tasks at my job. From lifting around fifty pounds worth of materials to carrying bulk orders to patrons, the tasks I perform come with their own sense of duty. I'm not fond of my job, but one can assume coursers weren't particularly fond of being charged into war by men-at-arms in heavy, ironclad suits either. To an extent, I get something out of my labor besides a hard-earned headache and a meager paycheck. In this position, I’m able to build upon the qualities that suit my tropetype: strength, reliability, and efficiency, all performed in close proximity to humankind.
Outside of work, I’ve made it a habit to give away things I no longer need. Usually, I do this with the clothes I once wore in high school as long as they’re in good condition. Other times, I give away old books of mine to used bookstores and donation bins within my area. Hopefully, someone will come to love those stories as I once had.
It's not the romantic image that most have in mind for a noble steed, but if there's anything I've learned as an alterhuman, it's that appearances aren't the deciding factor of who or what you are.
Appearances can influence, reflect, or even be used as outlets for one's sense of self; yet, appearances aren't the only means to shaping selfhood. Our actions as members of society affect that too. I'm not capable of embarking on grand adventures with a chosen one or witnessing epic battles unfold as a part of a cavalry, but I am capable of being a dependable member of my team and doing what I can to ensure folks make the most of their visit at my workplace. It's all but customary of a noble steed.
