the fact that he’s playing stupid just pisses him off even more. the bond pulses under his skin like his very own lie detector. he hates when it’s used against HIM but right now it’s coming in handy. “magnus. what happened with you and magnus?” // @lawtied

   HAZEL   SKATES   RATHER   QUICKLY   PAST   JACE’S   face   &   finds   his   desk-top   instead,   the   silver   band   that   was   tucked   deep   into   his   pocket   burning.   ❝   tell   you   what?   ❞   elder   sibling   asks   with   no   real   interest   in   his   voice:   denial.

“you look cute like this,” he tells her quietly. “next to me. on a date.” if there’s one thing he wants right now it’s for clary to be happy. after what she’s been through her mind and body need the break. they all need a damn break and that’s why he invited alec and magnus along.

he tugs his skates on after giving clary hers and rushes to his feet. bad idea. his hand shoots forward and he uses the wall to steady himself. he’s a shadowhunter, he shouldn’t be having issues with balance. he just knows clary’s probably trying to hold back laughter so he grunts and calls out to his parabatai. “whoever falls the most has to do the other’s laundry for a week.” taking clary’s hand they make their way from the backroom to the empty indoor rink. // @claryfrayed skating shenanigans 

It was clear Jace was out of his comfort zone as they started stumbling walking towards the rink. She was the cute one? Nah, this was cute. “Are we just going to stand here or are you actually planning to get on the ice today? Come on. It’s just practice.” Clary was the first to move onto the rink and she spun around to face Jace with a blinding smile, taking both of his hands into her own to slowly guide him onto the ice with her. “Just like that. You’ve got it.” They started slow, Clary chuckling at each one of her boyfriend’s wobbles. “This is really thoughtful, you know. With everything going on lately, skating was the last thing on my mind. My mom and I used to love doing this.”

    JUST   A   COUPLE   OF   FEET   AWAY   FROM   clary   &   his   brother,  alec   has   all   eyes   on   magnus,   who   was   crouching   down   to   assure   his   skates   were   on   tight   enough      ——   ❝   aren’t   you   dying   to   tell   me   about   how   you   actually   won   a   figure   skating   competition   with   kristi   yamaguchi   in   1991?   ❞   alec   was   teasing   him,   tapping   magnus   on   the   back   of   his   calf   with   his   newly   adorned   skates...   which   he’s   never   actually   used   before.   jace   calling   out   to   him,   a   COMPETITION:   &   it   was   fair   game?   interesting.   ❝   if   i   win   you’ll   just   go   in   the   sewers   all   week,   ❞   alec   called   back   to   him   while   attempting   to   stand   without   any   assistance;   resulting   in   a   bambi-esque   sequence   of   hasty   wobbling   motions. 

          alec   frowns,   both   of   his   hands   quickly   reaching   out   to  latch   onto   magnus’   sleeve,   yanking   unintentionally   hard   to   keep   himself   upright.   ❝   magnus,   ❞   alec   urges   almost   desperately,   attempting   to   skid   his   way   just   a   little   bit   further   towards   the   rink,   without   ever   looking   away   from   his   feet.   ❝   don’t   let   me   break   my   hip.   ❞

he feels like the world’s biggest asshole and normally he wouldn’t care but this is his brother. his parabatai.  he’s tired, jace can tell. trying to keep everyone in one piece.    “ i wouldn’t have been able to do it either. ”   his eyes hit the desk. part of him ashamed for expecting alec to do something jace would never have the strength for.   “ i wouldn’t have been able to kill you. ”   with a heavy sigh jace comes around to alec’s side of the desk to place a hand on his shoulder. he can feel his guilt and it makes his own stomach churn with it. “ if the fate of the world depended on it, we’d be screwed. you’ll never die at my hands, parabatai. ”  and i’m sorry for asking you to use yours. “ and yeah, i’ll talk to magnus for you. he did it because he loves you though, alec. don’t blame yourself for being loved that much. it’s a good thing. ”  he smiles. clary. 

    THE   ONLY   THING   THAT   TEARS   HIS   EYES   from   his   work   is   jace’s   words:   shocking,   but   the   hand   on   his   shoulder   keeps   him   grounded.   comforted.   through   the   bond   alec   can   feel   jace’s   own  guilt.   stinging   him.   it’s   been   busy   lately,   as   such   he   &   jace   haven’t   had   much   time   for   an   in-depth   discussion   on   much   of   anything,   so   it   was   good   they’re   both   awake   to   talk   now.   ❝   fuck   the   world   ---   if   i   had   no   choice   but   to   kill   you,   it   wouldn’t   be   worth   it   anyway.   ❞   alec   smiles   up   at   his   brother,   a   sign   that   they   were   okay.   ❝   i   felt   you   die   once,   jace,   i   couldn’t   be   responsible   for   that.   ❞   the   tearing   of   souls,   parabatai   bond   selfishly   broken.

     GLANCING   AROUND   INSTANTLY,   HAWK-EYED   AT   every   other   shadowhunter   in   sight,   just   making   sure   no   one   had   turned   their   head   to   look   in   their   direction   —   alec   quickly   shoots   magnus   a   narrow   glare,   ❝   when   i   said   come   in   for   lunch   i   didn’t   mean   to   let   you   talk   about   lube   in   public,   ❞   a   grimace,   before   quickly   adding:   ❝   —   the   strawberry   tastes   like   medicine.   ❞

“it’s not a precaution, it’s a mistake. if you want to find and stop my brother, you need me out there.” she was the only person he cared about, and likely the only one he’d ever listen to. unfortunately, her hand in his resurrection cast doubt upon her intentions and she’d lost much of the trust she’d built up by helping them stop her father. the morgensterns really were a piece of work. “f you lost isabelle or max… jace… and someone gave you the opportunity to bring them back, wouldn’t you take it? i didn’t know he’d want to burn down the world.”
