"The obsession prodded again, pushing at him, but Light didn’t let it near his mouth. He shoved it down, hard, until it thundered down the cellar stairs of his mind palace. Sulking below all his appropriate thoughts was the insistent wanting that made him avoid L’s gaze – the desire to sit in L’s lap."

(Light has a fantasy of sitting in L's lap, and he's got a plan to make that a reality.)

"Ok- look, Ryuzaki, can you stop that?"

L frowns, "Stop?"

"Yeah, your finger on your lips while you talk, why are you doing that? It is distracting."

A flash of emotion passed through L's eyes, the black orbs widening ever so slightly. A wicked smirk spread across L's face that gave Light the temptation to slap him, but he was more so focused on the jolt of arousal that crept up his spine. L pushed his index finger against his lips and leaned forward with interest, "Light-kun finds me distracting?"

Light finds L fascinating in the way a grade schooler might find dissecting a frog fascinating. He’s curious about what’s underneath the surface, the parts that make L tick a rhythm so off-beat even Light has to up his tempo, and how it all fits together into one, disordered, semi-cohesive whole. He wants to understand, but there’s no love there. A frog is more useful dead than alive under a scalpel.

Or: Light is certain L will be dead soon, and decides to make use of him one last time. He gets a little more out of it than he bargained for.
