“Are you kidding? Laurie…”
When he told her he’d gotten into a fight, Clementine had almost started laughing. Laurie getting into a physical fight with someone was, perhaps, inevitable with his mouth, but still ridiculous to think about. But then she’d recognized the shake in his voice and the rushed, heavy breathing. All of a sudden, any mirth disappeared.
After getting his shirt off, she walked around in front of him and kneeled at his legs to start cutting his pants off. Who the hell was the guy who beat his ass? She was going to hunt him down for sport. For the moment, though? Laurie needed her.
“I’m not gonna call you an idiot for something like this. Like, seriously – you were standing up for other people. That’s the least idiotic shit a person could do. Hell, I’m proud of you.”
Most of the fights she’d gotten in personally were for dumb, brutish reasons. It went like this; Clem ran her mouth at someone larger than her, they came back at her, and she escalated it. But Laurie was helping others. As if she wasn’t falling for him hard enough.
One last snip and his pants were able to come off. Before she pulled them down, she paused.
“…Are you, like… okay with me doing this?”
he isn’t sure WHY, but he looks away as she comes to his front to start the process of getting his blood-stained trousers off. even turning his head to the side STRAINS at his neck, causing a silent whimper to escape him. laurie clenches his teeth together as he prepares himself to use the one thing that doesn’t seem to be in pain - his VOICE.
“ if you did call me an idiot, i wouldn’t be terribly surprised, “ he lets out an exasperated chuckle, only to cut himself short from the SENSATION it sends through his ribcage. “ oh, please do not be sweet and cute right now. i’m going to laugh because i don’t know how else to take it and my chest is going to BURST. “
laurie finally looks back at her, realizing that he shouldn’t be embarrassed by what’s happening in front of him. another INTERESTING adventure for them to check off their list of strange things that happen between them.
he wasn’t expecting her to be so GENTLE with him. he always knew that she had a caring and nurturing side, but because of their usual stubborn and unserious conversations, the look on her face is one he hasn’t seen before. laurie musters what STRENGTH he has to lean forward, extending his hand to place it on her cheek, rubbing her skin with his thumb.
“ better to rip the bandaid off now, right ? like you haven’t seen me in my underwear before, “ he smiles at her weakly. “ if i am going to let anyone take my clothes off with a pair of shears, i think it’s gotta be YOU. “
