Timeline:
Born to Samuel and Josie Lewis, a military man and a lonely housewife, who’d lost all four of their sons in the war, or that’s the story they’d tell Laurie, and grew protective of their last living child.
His uncle is the Sheriff of Essex County, and his grandfather had taken the position before that. Courage and honour runs through the Lewis bloodline, Laurie was raised to believe, and it was a legacy he valued greatly to uphold.
Although forbidden to enlist, something he was rather relieved about, he knew he could achieve great things by following in the footsteps of his uncle and grandfather.
He graduated Police Academy with honours, and they even made up a fake award to appease him, but it’s not Salem he returned to as he began his career by tackling the streets of Boston.
After several years, Laurie learns things aren’t as easy as they seem and there are some truly horrible people out in the world, including some of the men he works with.
He tries to change things from the inside, speaking up when things are wrong and making formal complaints about the corruption he’d witnessed. This eventually results in him being transferred to Salem, but his grandfather spins it in a way that makes Laurie feel like he’s needed there.
And Laurie believed it. He returns to Salem as a bright-eyed, hopeful young man with big dreams for the community. Very by the book and positivist by nature. Dedicated to turning the town he grew up in into a safe one, he believes he is capable of solving all the mysteries and putting an end to the crime and corruption that runs rampant.
