It’s chapter 94 of the manga if you just wanna pop over to your favorite manga site and read the whole thing there.

First there’s no barrier–they’re able to just walk on in with ease. I’m not sure why they added the barrier in the anime but this means there’s no “Those who talk of the shikon jewel and selfish gain get thrown from the cave” scene or “miyoga sneaks in to see Midoriko after the rest have gone to bed” scene. The bit about Kilala originally being Midoriko’s companion is also exclusive to the anime.

 Not sure why the animators added the barrier in the first place. Maybe just so they could work in yet another “sit” joke which really isn’t all that funny, and also, for those who feel Kagome abuses the sit command, it’s exaggerated in the anime how often she uses it. I mean, she still uses it in the manga more often than she should, and yes it does serve as a running gag, but less often and too a less severe degree. Remember that scene from the band of seven arc of her saying sit sixteen times??? It’s only four in the manga.

But more importantly

Midoriko actually looks like a mummy (as she should) and isn’t preserved in all her beauty. Due to her decayed appearance and armor Miroku mistakes her for a general. 

Sango’s expressions in this chapter are rather chilling. In the anime she looks forlorn/resolved whilst in the manga there are moments immediately after her family’s massacre where she just looks pissed. Not that I blame her–she’s got every right to be pissed. This strong lady is my favorite character in this series if you can’t tell. I’m partial to tragic character who lose everything and spend most of their time suffering.

 As is the case in the anime, Sango corrects Miroku–it’s not a warrior/general, but a woman. A priestess. Which of course sparks Inuyasha’s and Kagome’s attention…

… And they are both reminded of Kikyo. 

Unseen in the anime is the rather vivid and graphic image of demons devouring what appears to be a corpse in the second panel. In the anime theres just some shots of a fire consuming some buildings, some fighting, and a hoard of demons flying in the sky. 

Then we have Sango explaining Midoriko and how special she was. 

Another little tidbit they never bothered to animate for some reason. Midoriko could destroy 10 demons at once. This woman was OP as fuck.

They go on to explain the “four souls” concept and Kagome is also confused by it–not just Inuyasha and Shippo. 

I dunno why they felt the need to change THAT. If I had to venture a guess, I’d say anime cliche’s? Male protagonists are often portrayed as stupid and women as intellectual. Which is ridiculous, since I really wouldn’t call either Kagome or Inuyasha stupid. They’re bad at communicating so they argue. They have a quest so they get into trouble, Inuyasha sometimes more so as he serves as “protector/fighter” and Kagome as the “jewel detector” as he so rudely puts it in the anime.

 Does that make you a jewel retriever then, angry puppy???

Here’s where the anime really strayed from the manga

And yeah, Midoriko’s story is almost exactly what happened between Naraku, Inuyasha, and Kikyo save for the fact Midoriko didn’t have someone whom she cared for as Kikyo cared for Inuyasha. 

Another interesting thing is that Inuyasha isn’t outright disrespectful as he is with the whole “she fought off an army of demons by turning them into weaklings” comment he drops in the anime. He actually seems to be paying attention and caring, perhaps because Midoriko has some things in common with Kikyo. I feel like the anime kinda exaggerates his rudeness about as much as the sit command and some other things they could’ve animated less of.

Midoriko exhausting herself after seven days and seven nights is the same–however she also forced out her own human heart along with the shikon jewel. 

I take it Sango’s father didn’t fight something weak like Mistress Centipede, as he was shown to have done during the “Tragic Love Song of Destiny” two part special, but something stronger instead since Sango straight up says he “died from his injuries.”
