A year or so ago Kjæran Dahle raped me. I stayed with him for a long while because he convinced me he would do better, but I realized that while he never did rape me again he would constantly pressure me into sex to the point where I had to say I wanted to stop having sex with him entirely because the possibility that I might consent kept him pestering me. Throughout our relationship he would beg, pout and whine when I didnt want to have sex or get him off, and always demanded to know why I didnt want to. After many rounds of criticism he eventually stopped the direct pressuring, but even then when I turned down sex he would refuse to do anything but cuddle in bed, constantly try to get me to want to have sex and get really silent and seemingly sad when I turned him down. I really felt like a shit partner because of this, and didnt stop to think that what he was doing was fucked up. After breaking up with him I came forth to my comrades a day or so before new year and did honestly not really expect it to be a big issue. He’s stolen money from our organization before and people were generally really pissed with him, and I expected this to the straw that broke the camels back. I was really shocked when they never did anything in response. They’ve been “investigating” for two months, which has caused me to become isolated from our organization.

They’ve told me that he’s been suspended from our commie org, but hes been allowed to continue to organize in our front organizations and it honestly disgusts me.When i reached forth to the leadership there (who are also maoist cadre) they expressed doubt he raped me because we “seemed so happy”. Because I’ve dedicated all my time and spoons to organizing this has entirely socially isolated me. I’ve been met with victim blaming, really hurtful language, freezing out, I’ve been shut out of the process of investigation, they’ve endangered my life by speaking to my rapist without my consent, they’ve told many more people intimate details about my rape without asking me, and most of all I’ve met no comeradery. It is obvious that theyre unprepared to deal with rape, but this is no defense. As cadre they should be prepared to help rape victims and fight rapists. This is rape culture. Internally they’re discussing using the banner “bring bats to rapists knees” for the 8th of march, but in reality they’re choosing a rapist thief over a dedicated activist. Theyre using fighting rape culture as a slogan and as a way to agitate, but in reality theyre a major contributor to it.

This is why rapists thrive in the global left, and honestly the whole process has been many times more traumatic than the rape itself. I ask that you do not engage with this organisation, do not promote them in any way, and that you hold them accountable for their failures until they rectify their gender praxis and throughoutly educate themselves.
