A veeeeeeeeeery old fan art I made about Frozen. Long story short, this is a short fan concept I had in mind about Elsa finding love with a regular human peasant I decided to now call Irene, who both go into a crusade to save Ana, Kristoff and Olaf who are held hostage by a fan enemy I also made named The ice king. Sadly, I lost all the fan art I made of the Ice king, but he was meant to appear as a handsome young man who wanted to marry Elsa and he decides to coerce her by kidnapping her family and also freezing everyone in Arendelle, not only that, Elsa loses all her powers, so she has to go into this quest alone and powerless. So Elsa had to go into a quest by the sole company of the deer Sven until in the road she finds Irene, who decides to join her and help her to find her family.

While updating my OC profiles on Art Fight and also slowly working in my comic project, I felt like drawing some pride Art featuring one of my few cis straight characters, Yolanda, being an ally to the LGBTQAI+ community. She's glad to show her full acceptance and support to queer people, offering a safe space. In fact, in one version of her story she becomes the mom of an asexual and aromantic son and she also was married to a gay man who discovered his sexuality later in life, they divorced, but they are still friends (though it was hard for her at first)
As trivia, this ex husband even makes drag shows and has invited Yolanda more than once to them š š

In honor of aro awareness week I think itās high time I finally yap about the best and weirdly underrated example of aro rep Iāve ever seen: Laojun from Legend of Hei
Personally my biggest issue with most (non oriented) aroace rep is how insincere or mystifying it feels. Sometimes it feels like the label aro/ace is js tossed on a character with no love interest but no indicator that they are aro/ace for the brownie points. There are characters either not being treated as aroace and crazy ship baited(or getting a partner bc āthey js hadnāt found the right person yetā/ āaros can still dateā) or being treated as unfeeling or an outcast bc they donāt experience romantic attraction. Iāve never seen an example of aro/ace rep that doesnāt fall into those pitfalls that really goes into what itās like to be aromantic in a romantic world until I read Lanxi Zhen.
Laojunās confession of never understanding or having romantic feelings and losing valued friendships to the point where he stopped getting close to people to avoid them developing feelings that he couldnāt reciprocate resonated with me a lot. I think itās because his aromanticism here isnāt being used to mystify him, in actuality itās a lot more humanizing. Itās probably the most vulnerable he had ever been and his aromanticism doesnāt come across as ācool and mysterious otherworldly immortal who doesnāt quite yet understand this human emotionā (Laojun is actually very emotionally intelligent) but as someone who quite awkwardly had to learn to live within a love obsessed world while never understanding the feeling and thatās something that I can relate to a lot. Itās not that he doesnāt have time, or he isnāt interested, or is scared or disgusted by it, he just doesnāt understand because heās never experienced it.
His aromanticism is not used to punish Qing Ningās feelings for him either, again it feels like something that humanizes and deepens their bond. This seems to be the one time heās been confessed to where he doesnāt retreat into solitude because he loves Qing Ning too much to abandon her. He tells her that he canāt empathize but he wants to make her happy. Of course she walks out of this more conflicted than before but the conversation isnāt centered around Qing Ning being rejected, but the first equally vulnerable moment between teacher and student and is some of the most human and open weāve ever seen Laojun.
Another thing I love about Laojun is that heās so deeply caring for so many people. Of the aroace characters Iāve consumed they always feel like a third wheel of the main group so to speak. Not that they donāt contribute or are complete outcasts but they just donāt seem to understand or be able to wiggle their way into the main groupās bond. Laojun on the other hand is the center of Xuanli and Qing Ningās bond. Heās personable, great at managing people, and has great chemistry with the majority of people he interacts with. Despite being practically a recluse he never feels like an outcast.
I love that his aromanticism isnāt smth abt him that needs to be fixed or is a shortcoming or is a marker of his development or a product of him being nonhuman. Itās not a personality thing, itās not a magic thing, Itās just a facet of who he is. He was born that way, it does affect his life, and it doesnāt change and I have never before nor since seen a character like that.
Bottom line is Laojun is amazing aro rep, best Iāve personally seen. We need to talk abt it more. His aromanticism is treated as a respectable and permanent part of who he is that doesnāt dampen the importance of his platonic relationships. Heās surrounded by people heās great at interacting with and is kind and deeply caring and the story actually talks abt how uncomfortable and confusing it can be to not experience romantic attraction and deeply value your platonic relationships. Heās also just Yk a fun and chill guy

For context, apparently they were worried that maybe he's a nationalist because he was waving the Portuguese flag and some nationalists opposing the pride march were waving that flag. But upon interacting with him, it turns out he didn't have have a pride flag and he wanted to wave *a* flag in support of the pride march. So they had an exchange and now he has his own pride flag šš„¹.
