Kokoa sniffled her last tears as she held on for dear life on the Charizard. It was a service Charizard, and she was very good at flying around, but Kokoa sort of wished she could fly slower. Or..a most, Kokoa wished she weren’t afraid of flying. No-this was the only way. Kiff had been looking for her for the longest time and he was so close to catching her. She couldn’t risk him giving her another inspirational talk about what she wanted to do. She knew damn well what she wanted to do! It was just each time she did know it, she’d feel unbelievably uncomfortable and unsure.

As Kokoa squinted and the Charizard flew down to the sand, the girl was so confused. She hopped off and looked around at the empty space. Nothing was here except for a small sign-to which she didn’t bother reading at this moment of confusion and panic creeping upon her nerves. The hairs on her tail rose up. This was definitely where her home should have been!
“Mom..Dad..?” Kokoa murmured, looking around in disbelief. Quickly, she brought out her map. When she was little her parents would always circle the island that they lived in, especially for when she and her siblings were younger. There were a lot of islands within Alola and it could get confusing. But this..she could not mistake this as the oldest sibling! Gulping, Kokoa traced down the map of Alola and saw the circled island. Yup. The island right near Kukui’s little lab, and on Melemelee Island..not the North island, but the South that was shaped like the crescent moon.
“Charizard-er..whatever your name-QUIET ONE!” Kokoa swiftly turned and pointed at her Rider Pokemon, “We’re on Melemelee Island?”
The fire type nodded in assurance, stomping towards her and lookng over her shoulder at the map. This was certainly the island she wanted to be! So the large lizard nodded again and pointed at the map with a low growl.
“This is the place… Then why…” Kokoa put her map away and looked at the whole island, “Its so empty… where’s my family….” Tears were welling up in her eyes, but she stopped them, shaking her head. “No, there MUST be a mistake!” Once again the girl hopped on the Charizard’s back, “Fly up high, but not away from the island. I want to see its shape. I-I’ll be okay…”
Shaking her back, the Charizards extended her old wings and flew up high as requested. Quickly the both of them flew and once high enough, the Pokemon stopped and gazed down. As did Kokoa. She was scared now, what was happening….
“Th-the crescent moon shape i-is still there….” With a small whine, the red head shook her head, “N-no..put me down, I need to be alone on this island..please I…” Slowly the both of them ing floated down, and Kokoa hopped off, collapsing to her knees, “Leave me alone..I’ll call you when...I don’t know-something happens...Arceus…”
The fire-type Pokemon was quite a bit wary, but she needed her space and the rider Pokemon needed to obey. Huffing out a flame, and before leaving, Charizard patted the girl’s head and replied, ‘Whatever you need. Call me, little child. You are no monster.’ The sand surrounded them as the fire type lifted herself up to the sky and disappeared above the clouds.
The Wingull’s cries along with some Pelipper called above her peacefully. This was just a normal day for them. Probably looking for food, playing with friends and family, or even just flying around… But no. Not for Kokoa. Lowering herself so that her hands anchored her body above the ground, her fingers in the sand, she stared in disbelief.
“This...this is the sand that I grew up on. The scent is familiar, the feel is familiar, everything abou it is familiar. Just…” Her hands grasped the grain under her, “why..is it not here, it..it doesn’t make SENSE!” Kokoa shouted, her hands flinging sand away out of her anger, “So what, no I can’t even FIND home anymore? Or go home? I just wanted to talk! A-and that sorry excuse for a Charizard brought me here?? This must have been such a huge bull-fuckery right here. So stupid!” She lowered her forehead against the sand, her hands scratching at her hair that was fuming with flames, as did her tail. “Where are they? Mom...Dad...Camille, Nana, Koi..”
Taking a deep breathe, Kokoa then yelled to the sky, “MOM! DAD! CAMILLE! NANA! KOIIIIIIIIIIIIII!!!!!!!” From that yell, the flames from within her, spouted from her back, hair, everywhere in one fell burst. The birds stopped chirping and Kokoa finally fell to the ground crying. She held her eyes, feeling so lonely, “Is..is this punishment? To be this alone j-just because I wanted to sing? J-just sing..? Not….not…….fight?”
“Kiff..” Kokoa sobbed, “I’m sorry.. I-I left you..I left everyone, didn’t I? Now I’m alone..”
There wasn’t a response. Just the ocean coming onto the beach, then back out.
Moments passed until a pair of footsteps sounded near her. It approached, and Kokoa muttered, “Kiff..anyone.. Please…” She sighed, “I was wrong. I was so wrong, I’m so sorry…”
“Wow. To think you’re me in this universe. A scared, crying, monkey girl. How pathetic.” The stranger remarked, poison on her tongue as she stated more, “-And here I thought you had more resolve within you. I thought you would find your parents. But no, you’re just crying on this beach all alone without realizing a thing of what’s going on...And futhermore--”
Kokoa gasped and quickly sat up to see a red haired woman. She was smirking and almost had a laugh in her voice. Mocking her. Mocking everything about this situation. The little trainer clutched her fists and growled, “Make some sense here! Or-you know-get the FUCK out of here if you’re so disappointed in me! This is my family’s island and they’ll come back. Someone will!”
The familiar demon clicked her tongue and shook her head, “Naah..I don’t think so. You left them behind, remember? Ah-well sort of. They sent you to be a trainer, and that other _____ came in to try to save you from your fate. As well as protect herself, I suppose. How selfish.”
Jumping up, the small red-head spat, “____? Who are you talking about? Only Kiff and I went on our journey. No one else! Who even are you?”

The red-head could have done his a long time ago; found a rider and just flew away, but each step she took away from Kiff, Kokoa felt uncomfortable and wanting to go back to him. Nothing romantic, oh ARCEUS no, no..more like she needed to protect him. He was so fragile and weak, and didn’t even have his memories back. Kokoa felt so dependant on him bandaging a lot of her battles, but it wasn’t right for him to patch everything she did wrong up.
Kiff was charming, charismatic, shy, gentle, kind...everything so unlike her!
Kokoa shut her eyes and laid her head on he Charizard’s neck, murmuring, “What’s your name? Are we there yet? I feel like throwing up or screaming.” Yes, she was shaking a lot. The sky life is and never was for her. Seemed to be a fear within the family too, “I..want to talk to my family as soon as I can.” A pause with a grown and finally, “...I’m terrible for denying my family traditions, huh?”
The fire type glanced up at the young trainer, listened, then looked back forward without a word and just a flap of her wings.
“I am. I know it. I am the only one in my family that is a gjinka, and natural gjinkas are very rare. Me and my dad are the rare ones that need to be strong and take on the Trials for the Tapus Blessings. Here I am not..wanting to do it because I want to just...sing……” Kokoa lightly blushed, looking to the side. It was still embarrassing to admit it to anyone. Kiff was the first she admitted it too. But now he was gone, and so were her Pokemon, “..I’m terrible because I left my Pokemon team..ah-don’t worry..at least they’re with a great trainer.” She sighed, “None..of them need me.”
Wincing, the Monferno girl felt the wind get stronger, but she felt like this Charizard was listening.
That..or she was mute. Either or.
Letting her words get to her, Kokoa felt her tears once more. It hurt for herself to say those things about herself, while also feeling the fear of flying and the wind pierce through her. At least this Charizard was nice and warm.
“What even is the point of the Trials..I don’t need the Tapus’ Blessings. I never liked the gods and spirits like that. None of them exist anyway. They’re just dumb stories made to follow rules…” The red-haired muttered, continuing, “So stupid..I’ll do what I want without anyone’s help..”
Pausing, the teen caught herself, “..And no-I’m going to my parents’ house bECAUSE! I..I just want to tell them and be firm about how idiotic this journey is and was. Its too stressful..”
The image flashed of her receiving her Litten, Aku. She guessed that was a magical moment….
-And the time she met Lulu as a small bird..
Then Teddy as an egg…
Mellow as a foal..
And Nilly as a scary Cutiefly..
She guessed those were all fun meeting them.
“I’m making a mistake...aren’t I…Everything feels wrong. L-like my entire being is..is..”
It was hard to find the right words for her so Kokoa groaned and looked down at the islands. Spotting Prof. Kukui’s lab, she pointed down, “There. That’s…” Wait.
