Vintage Mechanical Caterpillar, 1820s
Made by Swiss watchmaker Henri Maillardet for sale to aristocratic Chinese buyers, this striking mechanical caterpillar is truly one of a kind. The gold, jewel and pearl-set piece mimics the caterpillar’s crawl with a clockwork powered mechanism.
It was titled ‘the Ethiopian caterpillar’ when Maillardet, in partnership with watchmaker Jaquet Droz, organized an exhibition to show off his miniaturized automata in London.
Kyu: hm? impractical? how so? As someone without fingers I find them quite practical. Additionally they give me a good bit more reach than normal. I could tell you how I managed to get the effect sometime though some of the details are a little out of my reach with having to enter a trance to inscribed my runes.

I meant impractical as far as design goes. if I had to give myself artificial arms I don't think I'd do it in necklace form, I think I'd go directly for the prosthetic route, see how to attach them to my body with some sort of harness. that said, my magic isn't conducive to ghost limbs so I wouldn't really have any other options
